Fourth the gold standard would allow the country's currency to be devalued because or thefts or manufacture of gold. Fifth, the US needs to be able to print large amounts of money during emergencies like the Arab Oil Embargo when they tried to bankrupt the West by raising the price of oil to levels nobody could afford. The myth that war is good for economies is ridiculous. All inflation does is take a full cup and turn it in to two half full cups. Basically it says that every dollar is backed the a certain amount of gold. It is stupid first because if we went on it nobody would be able to afford jewelry. Second there is no difference between basing the dollar on the price of other currencies which have value vs basing the dollar on the price of a precious metal. Third the gold standard would give an unfair advantage to countries which has large amounts of gold.

Its an unworkable idea that no serious politician is considering. The people who are in favor of it say that it would prevent us from spending money like its going out of style. This is false because the US ran serious deficits while it was on the gold standard - for example during the New Deal and during WWI and WWII.

Gold can't be done unilaterally by the United States you cannot have a gold standard with only one country participating. The reason why the gold standard was abolished was because if the economy is suffering from a crisis, money supply can't be expanded to stimulate the economy. That's one of the primary reasons why the Great Depression lasted as long as it did. The economy can't be regulated as easily with the gold standard and that was why everyone took themselves off of that system.

Ron Paul spoke the truth. He is right about Cuba and about conservatism. The other candidates were silent when Ron Paul spoke on who is the most conservative. They could not argue against him.

Ron Paul is sensible and principled. And notice, even though there were to be no applause during the debate, the audience broke the rule for Ron Paul. They had to clap because what Ron Paul said made sense and it was refreshing.

I started watching this on tv last night. I watched it for about 30 mins because I want to hear Ron Paul. I ended up turning it off because Ron Paul had spoken for maybe 2mins and the rest was gingrich and romney just trying to talk shit on each other.
