  • i believe in some cases it should be allowed my mom brought 3 handicapped kids into this world my older sister is doing fine and has a good life. but my older brother died at 5 years old he spend his whole life in the hospital and my younger sister died at 2 day my mom had to make the chose to pull the plug on her. i think it should all depend on the cercomstances. i would never abort a child myself, i would try adoption if i really couldn't take care of a disabled child but sometimes its better

  • my daughter was born with a heart defect because she was a preemie but i belive that the only reason a child should be aborted is if that child will suffer and be in pain all there life i don't think it's ok for a child to grow up that way

  • im sorry for what i am about to put in this comment

i hate your videos, you believe the world should be perfect and fair, but its not.

and talking about something you havent had any personal experience with is extremely superficial of you.

  • thats an interesting story about the two babies. wouldnt it be wild if it was true? man, wonders never cease. i hope medical science can find better treatment for diseases like down syndrome.

  • thank you for your comment leiapeison,

    I hope so too

  • Every innocent life deserves the right to live.

Sometimes people who grow up not perfect actually bring alot of love and happiness to a family.

  • yes they do, and they teach us along the way

  • Umm... Helen Keller wasn't born deaf and blind as she got her disability due to a fever when she was a baby. Stephen Hawkings developed his disability later on in life too.

  • so your point is?

kill them if they not not going to be perfect at birth?

  • it all depends on the severity of the defect. If the child is only going to suffer their entire life then it would theoretically be much more humane to end their suffering at birth or even before it. As long as it is done painlessly then I can approve of it.

  • theoretically to you, but i wonder what they would think?

  • @roevswade indeed, it is all theory. But if it were me, then I would rather be aborted. Therefore I can only assume the same of people who don't exist yet.

  • My sister was born severely mentally handicapped in 1969 and it totally destroyed our family. I feel that it is profoundly cruel to knowingly bring a handicapped child into this world. Lets face it, you never see handicapped animals in the wild being taken care of by other animals do you? >:(

  • There is a huge difference..

    between wild inhumane "Animals"

    and orderly intelligent "humans".

Something that could never think on its own, or care for itself let alone others, or would literally just be uncapable of.. should possibly not be born.

Someone with a small birth defect or simply one that affects them and the ones around them but they can still live on their own and care and think on their own.. they shouldn't be terminated.

  • I was born into my family in 1965 with nothing wrong with me but my old sister felt the same way about me because she had to help take care of me.

sorry that you feel the way you do, when hard things come it make us stronger, but they can destroy us if we let them.

just a thought, i don't see animals killing there unborn.

  • @roevswade No, they just eat them once they are born. Some of them, anyway. The animal kingdom is generally not a good place to look for examples of compassion =P.

  • What a great video! The measure of a real man or woman must surely be their ability to ALWAYS treat the weak, vulnerable, and defenceless amongst us with love, care, respect and compassion.

  • Amazing. I don't know how it is possible to even think about killing their child even though they're all an amazing gift from God. It doesn't matter if they're sick or healthy. They're all gifts from God. :]

  • If you're only going to acknowledge relatively mild birth defects like mental disabilities, then sure, abortion seems unreasonable. However, you have failed to acknowledge horrific birth defects like harlequin type ichthyosis that can cause the child severe, chronic pain.

  • @riddle84 Agreed. If the birth defect is such that the child will definitely only live a few days, etc, in horrible pain then it probably is more merciful to terminate it before it becomes conscious. The birth defect question is not black and white, especially considering that 'birth defects' can technically range from a missing toe to a missing brain. Can't tar it all with the same brush, which is the issue I have with this video.

  • wow i did an essay on y abortion shood b illegal thnx this vid helped m a lot

  • I personally believe the rise of autism is God's way of ensuring that we continue to have the number of "special needs" humans on this world. It is not detectable until the child is 18mnths-3yrs of age. And I am the proud mother of two children with autism :)

  • Awesome vid. I agree with you. Sadly there is an ongoing campaign of eugenics against people with congenital conditions. I am autistic and people like me are becoming and endangered species. If groups like Autism Speaks have their way, people like me will no longer exist. You don't have to take my word for it. Just look at autism speaks website. Their stated goal is to find a cure for autism.

  • @purplemutantas

im autistic and i LONG for the day when autism is a thing of the past. autism is not fun.

  • @leiapeison Yea there are parts of autism that aren't fun. But I don't want to see a world without people like me in it. Autism is a fundamental part of who I am. If you removed the Autism, I would be a totally different person. Despite the difficulties I face, I am who I am and wouldn't want to change that.

  • Nobody has said 'lets abort blind people! Let's abort people with the ability to have quality of life'. You know why? Because a lot of the time there are no pre-birth tests for defects such as blindness. Medicine has provided, and often PROSCRIBES abortion for women carrying fetuses who have a SEVERE abnormality and a miniscule chance at ANY type of quality of life, or for that matter even survival. Stop comparing your bullshit to real issues.

  • Keep in mind that science CAN be wrong. My daughter's disorder carries a 100% chance of morbidity if found in-utero (according to the literature) yet she is a living example of a miracle and very much enjoys life. How selfish is it if science is wrong??? Just because a Dr. recommends terminating a pregnancy doesn't mean they're correct in their diagnosis. I know of many children who were given little or no chance or survival and are thriving because their parents had the sense to know different.

  • There is no sense involved in taking a huge risk during pregnancy and hoping for the best. It works out for some people, but obviously if the statistics have shown that 100% of known cases proved fatal, then it didn't work out for 100% of other known cases, did it? I'd hardly call that 'sense' or 'knowlegdge'. It is pure luck. Also, I can't see how taking that risk going 'I just KNOW it will work out for me' will help things if it doesn't and then that child suffers until it dies.

  • On another note, I am glad you are one of the cases who took that huge risk and had it luckily work out for you and your daughter. Just remember, science is not there to make people do evil things they shouldn't do. It is there to inform and help people to make the best possible choices in the interests of everyone. You are very lucky that you are not part of the 100% statistic. Best of luck for your daughter for the future, I wish her only good things =).

  • I agree that science tries to help people make the best possible choices but throughout my experiences I have learned that they are wrong more often then they are right... I can't even begin to count how many families I have met or spoken with who were given the same 100% chance of morbidity but yet their children are very much alive and actually now have a normal life expectancy. I hardly call that luck but misinformation provided by the medical community.

  • Don't get me wrong I believe medical professionals are there to do their best but they are only human and will make mistakes! I myself have worked within the medical community and have on a personal level sought out care for my children for the last 13 years. I can't at any time during those 13years tell you that a diagnosis that was provided for my children was 100% accurate. Should I make a life or death decision knowing that it is possible they are wrong??? I don't think so.

  • I know so many beautiful children who are here because the parents chose against terminating a "defective" child and in some instances these children were born without the defect that was originally presented to the parents. How frightening is that??? If science can be wrong in telling a parent that the child is a boy or a girl through ultrasound I can only imagine how many times they are wrong in determining if a child should be terminated.

  • In my own case it wasn't until my third child that we became aware that there was a genetic defect within the family and that didn't present until an ultrasound at 28 weeks, when termination was not an option. Had I known earlier would I have chose termination? Absolutely not! I believe each child deserves a chance at life and if they do not survive then it is God's will but not my choice to make.

  • I only share my experience so that others may realize that when a Doctor "prescribes" termination of a pregnancy the parent does have the ability to choose life and that it is possible for them to have a child that can enjoy life through their disabilities. Keep in mind when a Doctor prescribes medication it does not mean that the patient must take it.

  • However it is the Doctor's/Pharmacists responsibility to educate the patient on the possible side effects and help the patient decide if the benefit of taking the medication outweighs the side effects. Remember everything has a side effect (also known as consequences) and there are certainly consequences of terminating a pregnancy. By the way thank you for your well wishes for my daughter!

  • Just for reference, Trisomy 21 sufferers (Down's Syndrome in laymens terms) have an average IQ of 40-70. They function only semi-independently in society and need greater care than others. Also, all of the conditions you mentioned render the sufferer's only partly disabled/unable to function. What about sufferers of disorders such as encephalocele in which the baby can be born, and survive, however their brains remain unfused or protruding from their orifices?

  • Some of these people will never achieve anything in life because the simple biological science of it is they CAN'T. We cannot magically build missing parts of brains, or spinal cords. If you can spare a child the pain of being born to live as a vegetable under constant medical care, on drugs to numb pain, undergoing constant surgery and eventually (and inevitably) dying, then isn't this the more humane and less selfish option?

  • I find it cruel to think that a responsible adult would be willing to put their child through that knowing that they would never have sensory enjoyment, never leave a hospital bed, never experience anything life had to offer, SIMPLY so they could feel better knowing that they didn't 'murder' their child pre-birth. It sickens me that people would prefer to watch their children suffer and die slowly. Blindness doesn't kill. Downs Syndrome doesn't kill. Use some REAL examples, lady.

  • You should take a moment to read this story;

Type in Rebecca Hannah encephalocele into the MSN, Yahoo, or Google search engine and click on Amniotic Banding (for some reason it would not allow me to post the link).

Had this little girls Doctor's found the encephalocele in-utero I'm sure they would have recommended termination... Yet another example of an awesome miracle and the possibility of science being unable to predict the outcome!

  • I really enjoyed your point of view & I absolutely agree. I have 3 children with genetic disorders & would've never thought to abort had I known. My children are my hero's as they have touched my life & so many others. I feel so blessed to be their mother! My youngest daughters condition was considered lethal due to in-utero presentation. Since she survived birth she fell under the infantile form which has a 50%morbidity before 6 months old. She will be 3 yrs old soon & is truly a miracle!

  • Yes life is a miracle, and those that can see it are truly more contented, instead of seeing the glitches you have seen the good.

    Thank for your comments.

  • wow inspirational

  • excellent job well done

  • What is even more awefull is that a doctor recently in Britain was aquitted for acting out of good will after aborted 2 30 week old foetuses because they had cleft palates!

  • that is very sad, I have a friend that had a cleft palate.

  • I know and to think that this can be grounds for aborting a fully formed foetus that could already live without the mother.

It's euthanasia, that's what it is!

  • According to them, but it's obviously GENOCIDE.

Abortion after 12 weeks should be completely illegal I reckon, unless there are SERIOUS health risks.

  • This is such a great point! Thumbs up all the way!

    :-)

  • Interesting story. I loved your vid! Great job. ;-)

  • i would hate to think someone would want to abort just because the child is disabled. many people think the child doesn't have a purpose but that is simply not true.

  • I don't think we should ever allow the State to decide this question, because we don't need a eugenics precedent like the EU is striving toward. However, I do not personally have the funds or the support system or the temperament to handle certain birth defects & I suspect I ain't alone in that. Should I farm-out said child to another? Hey, I don't even farm-out my healthy kid to a day-care or school! Thank Heaven I didn't have to make such a choice.

  • I watched this video because I saw your comment, Nice video, I will send you a message of some of my experiences this 40 days for life , God Bless you

  • I love this vid.

And i lvoe the point of it.

    I wish people understood

    that we're all human.

  • Well, you gave me a new thought tonight that I'm going to have to mull over. I have long wondered about the amount of money spent on the Sepcial Olympics, but now maybe wonder what it reflects of our society that we're wiling to spend that money on such an event.
