Back in the eighties I was playing this game in the arcades and a guy came up to me, started watching me play and then he said "get a bird, get a bird!" I thought this was a bit strange and didn't know what to say, but then again there were alot of "birds" to "get" in Galaxians.
Those were the days. But I remember playing against a very good player. He scored 280,000 against my 120,000. I'm 100% sure he is the best player of the Galaxian Arcade Games. And this is were the Galaxian games we're adjusted to the fastest mode. All the purple ones will attack at the same time in a single line and behind them are 2-3 yellow ones.
Galaxian was a tough game for sure - my highest was around the 110-115,000 mark. Used to play it for 10p down the arcade. The key is timing your shots as they have to either strike and enemy or clear the screen before you can shoot again. Need a bit of skill on the joystick too - ahh it was a great game.
Here's an easy trick of shooting those damn things: line your ship paralled to the attacking invaders and you can nail them regardless of any distance; once you've managed to shoot an attacking yellow spaceship, take full advantage of clearing as many of them as possible IN ABOUT TEN SECONDS BEFORE THEY REGAIN THEIR AMMOS!
Galaxians is fairly easy, really. The only hard thing about it is that they only give you only one extra free bonus spaceship at 7500 points...whereas, Galaga and Astroids gave you unlimited extra bonus ships!
No...Its not an old games machine hes playing on...Its from MAME..But running exactly the same game rom as in the 80's machines..I can easily out do the program ive done 32 levels and it took me an hour or so and i still had 4 lives left.....Once you get past level 15 the game just loops so every level is the same...Great classic game i spent a lot of time in the arcade with this one after i got bored with space invaders...Defender(williams red label) was my fave though..
Yeah, 40,000+ is definitely a very getable score. My personal high score is 46,400. What I can't wrap my head around is people who manage to get 6-figure scores. I've always wondered...do these guys do a 'only attack chargers' strategy so they exclusively get double points? I've never bothered trying that strategy because it just seems long-winded and makes the game boring IMO. Would it help my score a great deal, do you think?
I defintely hear ya, I broke 140,000 a few times, and no way the 1.1 million mark is within any foreseeable reach. Now Galaga is 1 game I can truly own at, but Galaxian was the tricky one :)
Most impressive. The furthest I've ever made it was to stage 11 I think. But to the person who said their record is 360,000 points, I need to see this. :D
