;( i wish this was my spider so gutted she looks sooooo cute, ive just lost my chilian rose to old age, i wanna move onto something hardcore like a salmon or a goliath bird eater
Cool, you can kind of see that even though she'd rather avoid humans she doesn't feel threathened by you. Can you stroke her at all, or is that one of the kinds with irritant barbed hairs?
Nasty, yet cool!I love SPIDERMAN and yet can never hold a Tarantula on my own with the knowledge that I have about them not having bones! They are simply just hair and muscle and blood!Eww!!Eww!!Gross!!
its far enough from the heater that it will not get over 80 degrees. Its about a foot away. i have a thermometer on top of the tank and will keep checking on it. the basement is in the
low 60s but that area near the heater is better for now than anywhere else becuase it is about 75 or so.
I have a salmon pink birdeater about the size of a quarter. The guy said i wouldn't have to feed him for a days when i bought him but that was on 12/1.
I was wrong with the conversion its x1.8 plus 32. Anyways, 60 degrees F is about 15.5 degrees celsius...so say 15.5-17 degrees celcius or so. is that a safe range for these guys?
@Pilot9r it honestly depends on the species and where the species originates. like i said, if the spider is moving around lots and doesnt seem sluggish, the temperature is probably fine. if you are quite concerned the pet store can suggest the proper lamp you can use for it. but i cannot offer much advice on proper heating unless i know the species
@Pilot9r easy way to convert from fahrenheit to celsius: minus 30 divided by 2. 60 degrees fahrenheit minus 30 = 30 divided by 2 = 15 degrees celsius.
@metropol77 Body temperature is 98.6 F and 37 C. that calculation isn't exact because when body temp comes out to 34.3 Celsius when you calculate it that way.
@Djinnhydra all tarantulas have venom but it isn't harmful to humans, if you get bit it will hurt but only because of the fangs the effects from the venom are usually comparable to a bee sting.
I'm guessing these guys aren't venomous? I'm not good with spiders and I'm not sure if tarantulas are venomous or not. I specialize in snakes. Can someone please tell me if there are venomous tarantulas or not? Thank you.
@Djinnhydra tarantulas are venomous. but only enough to kill insects and small birds and rodents. when i tarantula bites a person it just hurts really bad and may swell a lot but they are only deadly to people in the rare case that someone has an allergy and goes into anaphalactic shock. the only spiders deadly to humans that are quite large are funnel web spiders and such. and people rarely own things like that unless they are professionals
hello, my gf and I just bought ourselves tarantulas today on a whim. She bought a pink toe and i bought a salmon pink bird eater. The guy in the store said they are super easy to keep but im a bit nervous about the temperature. Temps are in the mid to upper 60's in our house during the winter, and how much of a problem is hte humidity? The tanks have a paper towel in them that is used to provide humidity by keeping it moist. How often do i need to soak that? Should I mist them often?
@Pilot9r dont mist the cage. but the paper towel should be moist at all times. dont let it dry out. the best way to tell if the temperature is too low for a spider is if they do not move much. keep in mind large spiders are not very active but they will move or at least move a leg when touched. if the spider is too sluggish, it is too cold. (i'm canadian so we dont used farenheit so if i do my math right that is about the same temperature that it is at my place and my rosie is fine with that)
@insane247 Thank you for your response. My spider is about the size of a quarter and is usually just clinging to the side. He movs when i touch him and will walk around on me when i take him out. The conversion is F x 1.6 plus 32 = Celsius. My room is 60-62 degrees fahreheit most of the time now. I bought some tiny crickets today and i haven't seen him eat one so I am a bit concerned.
@Pilot9r if he is not eating, he is either not hungry if he was fed a couple days ago. or he is in premolt. or the crickets may be too large. try something smaller and see if he will eat that
@insane247 Quick question. THe abdomen part of the spider has been brown since i bought it a few days ago but i just noticed that it has some spots wher eit is a lighter color. Sort of blotchy. Is this a sign it is going to molt or some sort of health problem? I just put it down near the oil burner so it can be warmer for a bit. I used a thermometer and its at about 75 degrees a foot or so from the burner where i put the tank.
@Pilot9r btw its probably best not to place it near a source of heat unless it is designed for aquariums because it can overheat and does not heat evenly enough or controlled enough.
@Grazk i would too and i'm pretty comfortable with them. my rose hair is less than half that size and getting bit by her is way worse than a hornet sting. her fangs are the size of a 12 or 10 guage needle at their thickest point plus the venom. weak as that venom is it sure packs a punch. i've only been bitten once. i sure wud not like that big beauty on this vid bite me lol!
hey i have one and i had him since he was an inch big, he is now about three inches. and i was just wondering if u always handled him from when it was small or did u wait till it got big?? thanks!
@spoxziomal69 exposure to handling doesnt always condition them to handle that well. it all depends on the personality. some just handle well, some may not even if they are handled lots their whole life
if i ever saw that i would catch it and throw it on my big sister just to hear her scream ''ohhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyyyyyyyy goddddddddd, mom mommmmmmmmm mummmmmmyyyyyyyyyy "
it's kind of interesting but to the best of human knowledge thus far, most spiders seem to have no idea theyre being handled...they see us as being a moving land mass but it can still be somewhat stressful if you handle them a lot...I think the more aggressive species sometimes see any form of movement larger than them as being a threat as opposed to more docile species who as aren't bothered by large moving things...it varies depending on the individual too
Do they actually liked being handled do you think... personally i think not... i think they would rather be out in the wild in their own environment... hunting whatever they hunt... not cooped-up in a box in someones front room... in my opinion these things are wild they're not pets! Still a nice Spider though... beautiful!
That would be SO adorable if I wasn't absolutely terrified of her, but I can still appreciate what a beautiful creature she is, and I'm very glad there are people like you who can appreciate them from a much closer vantage point than I can. Cool video. :-)
Your spider is beautiful. Have you had it since it was a baby and how big is the container you keep it in? Seeing this great looking creature makes me want to buy one. But I hear they don't make good pets. This spider seems to contradict that...
How can som1 dislike this video? It is a beautiful tella, that looks really healthy and the handling of it looks really professional. The video have god quality and to make it walk over a cd to show the size was brilliant. And did i mention that it is a STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL TELLA.

im very scared of spiders but i dont kill them ,i just catch guy and quick get out of my room ;p they wana live just like people but they look scary ;]
@MissShadow871 ikr i hate killing things is sad! :'( btw im a boy 13 years old and i dont like killing things its just really sad i love that spider he/she is cute
I have serious arachnophobia but for some reason I do not mind watching this video & rather than feeling fearful or uneasy I actually find this curious & fascinating, (I still wouldn't like to handle one) but the bigger the Spider the more personable the creature. I wonder why that is? Also could you tell me how long this Spider lives? Do you still have her? And are they less venomous than other species due to their size?
that almost looks like a chaco golden knee, (grammostola aureostriata), I had one. They're really mellow, but get in excess of 8 inches. My girl was right around 7.5". It just has the knee stripes and lacks the pink hairs. Either way it's a beautiful (and BIG) T! Congrats!

Cuthalion1986 3 months ago
the only reason i'm scared of tarantulas is because of the people that have had incidences with them. theres only a couple though.
