Keep in mind that most games that utilize the Unreal 3 Engine don't use it to it's fullest potential. If you want such a game, go look at the one's made by Epic Games (the makers of the Unreal 3 Engine).

Yeah, its not nearly as POWERFUL but it provides some amazing gameplay. The source based games are just amazing, fun, and take skill to use while unreal 3 is mostly about graphics. I love both engines, they both provide with great graphics while entertaining with the amazing gameplay :] AVA and CS:S ftw!

although one of the key things about the source engine I like is that you have access to many console commands that can make source games accessible to those of us with old motherboards. Unfortunately with my system I can never get the most out of a 6600gt due to an agp 4x motherboard. Heh.

@TheF2PMaster Maybe not, but the Source engine has MUCH better physics simulation. Face movement (as in While speaking) is much more accurate than Unreal 3. Not to mention more easily modded. Sooo. Unreal 3 gets a 8.5 out of 10. Source gets 9.5. :D

@TheF2PMaster Unreal Engine 3 is very professional and indeed is one of the most powerful and balanced engines. However the Source Engine still has many advantages over UE3.

It is incredibly efficient, and still boasts the best facial animation out of any engine. CryEngine2 met it's quality when it was new, but never surpassed it, and now Source has passed it leaps and bounds.

It also is extremely customizable, and is the only one that guarantees incremental updates.

@Jam0nBread Okay, Naughty Dog 2.0 is indeed good, but I can't say better. However it's only been demonstrated in 2 games and that's Uncharted and Uncharted 2.

Source is great and also has loads of games to back it up. Amateur mod makers and even computer illiterate people like me are able to easily use it's animation program.

The impressive thing about both ND 2.0 and Source is that while other developers use loads of mocap, ND and VALVe hand animate using only reference pictures and sliders.

@Jam0nBread IMO the UT engine unfortunately has only average face animation. Aside from the cutscenes, every game has a problem with dead eyes and uncanny valley moments during dynamically generated moments.

Mass Effect's facial animation is overall good and comes close to Source or CryEngine quality, but still has some problems. Every time Shepard smiles, it's a scary ass rape face and when he frowns he sometimes looks like he has bells palsy. Every time it happens I wanna take a shower.

I realized after making the review that my problem was trying to use Bloom and HDR at the same time. Using one or the other, my framerate is perfectly fine. Using both... well, I lag quite a bit. This is because Boom and HDR are lighting effects calculated by the CPU, and doing two sets of lighting+shadow calculations strains the CPU heavily.

Pretty good review, even thought sometimes you sound like you're reading too much. They fixed alot of glitches with .6, they patch pretty fast imo. Sure, I'll send you the think. Vista is fine, but the OS itself tends to eat up a lot of your CPU, and therefore you may run the game slower than if you were running it on XP.
