@AdirondackNY If it is a 5.9L motor it will look just like the Cummins in this video except it will not have a Dodge Cummins valve cover. If you have the 8.3L version you will have a rotary pump but it will be a CAPS model which is (more or less) an oversized version of the VP-44.
Thanks for the reply. Sincei am on the road in San Diego, i took it to the Cummins shop (CAL Pacific in El Cajon) and they charged me $877 for a factory EX man. installed, which i thought was a very fair price. They also ran a "stall" test on it and found that an intake hose had come loose which they felt caused the EX man, to crack . Thanks, again, Pete Walls (MBlover99) (i use that handle cause my hobby car is an "87" 560SL)
Obviously you know your shit about Cummins. I have a 98.5 w/ 24V ISB that has a cracked exhaust manifold. Do you know if the turbocharger/jake brake have to come out to pull the exhaust manifold, or can i just swing it sideways towards the fender and slide the manifold up and out?? Thanks, Pete Walls, "MBlover99" or "wallsent@gmail.com".
@MBlover99 either way you do it is not a problem, but i would remove the turbo charger from the exhaust manifold while the manifold is still on the engine block. You should remove it so you can get to the exhaust manifold bolts, but i would do it because it is easy to hit the turbo charger nuts with a torch to allow for easier removal.
I would suggest finding a good 3 pc manifold to replace yours. the stock ones tend to shrink. Plus the center bolts are now easily accessible for torquing.
@deere850j1 if you want to be technical the FSM states to unhook the batteries, lol
The reason is because even though it is a small batter anyone who is new to this will easily waste 5 or 6 hours doing this. I have done injector swaps enough i can get it down to 2 hours, filming this took me 4 hours. Since it was cold only about 35 out i didn't want to kill the batteries cranking the engine and having the grid heaters clicking the whole time.
how can I tell if my cummins is a 98.5 -02 model. my truck is a 1998 Ford F800 with the cummins.

@deere850j1 so it doesn't kill the battery...If you decided not to disconnect the battery
