  • Nice Vid I love turning Cherry but its a hard wood to come by in PA yet 100 years ago PA had a vast amount of Cherry. 5.88 a 1x8 Board L.F here in PA

  • Thanks for the quick response - A friend of mine apparently has an 18 inch diameter pear tree that he has offered me part of. He cut a bark ring a few years ago to kill it. I'm going to look at it tomorrow with a few to felling it soon. So your videos are good information. Ever turned pear? I hear its nice.

  • I've turned a lot of pear. I like it a lot, especially green. Cuts like butter.

  • @dmsketchup Man. I love pear preserves. Do us a favor and let the pear trees alone {:D

  • I believe these were a few months old. Normally I leave the wood in logs until I work up the ambition to chainsaw them into blanks, which is anywhere from months to years.

I usually chainsaw a whole bunch at once and seal the ends with whatever I have on hand, like latex paint. A wax-based product like Anchorseal is much better, though.

  • How long had the tree been cut before cutting the blank? That is, how green was it. Do you turn it green or store the blanks for some time?
