A perfect example of how passing laws requiring higher test scores is merely beating around the bush and doing nothing to help the problem of lower education. These types of standardized tests are a joke and don't inspire any decent kind of learning or creative teaching. Will anything change because of this? I doubt it.
The parents shouldn't complain too loudly-- without those elevated test scores, a lot of their kids wouldn't be going on to the next grade level in fall.

For the most part, Republicans have praised Pres. Obama's views on education. This is an area where they have mostly agreed. Like Obama, Republicans believe in merit pay, holding teachers accountable, etc. At the same time, however, the O Admin tries to compromise with teacher unions. It's hard to know where the Obama Admin really stands when it comes to education. They should stop trying to please everyone & do the right thing for our children. With most politicians, it's all about votes.

Basically corporations make a third party pay for its costs. Without the work that unions did in the 1930s and 1940s there would have been no middle class in the US afterwards. The schools that get all the rich whites have better funding, while the ones that get the blacks get less funding. @BabyGirlGoddess I feel sorry for you. The UNIONs take all the tax money & piss it away on dues, old teachers tenure, administrators, & all their pensions, perks, & retirement - billions of dollars wasted & not a penny makes it to the classroom. For every dollar taxed for education, over 75 cents goes to entitlements. The teachers scream its about the kids, but nothing is further than the truth.

@BabyGirlGoddes Im glad you value the importance of an education rather than some kids value sports. Education is the route to go and not the route of a basketball or football. NBA or NFL...you get hurt and you got nothing

Its sad that theres such things like standardized testing seriously it could have benefit but its not monitored right and with the right people ..now its used to classify and divided people by race and class. Now in public schools they dont even teach the kids correctly or teach them useful information that will set them for success they just prepare for these dumb tests because theres so much pressure( just a opinon)

I so agree with everything you just said.
I went to school in Georgia and there was a lot of pressure on kids to pass tests.
Now it seems that every school down here is trying to meet some sort of standards..
I graduated with people who didn't even know how to READ. I don't even know how they were even allowed to graduate. They don't care if kids learn or not.They just care about kids passing tests. All I kept hearing throughout high school were tests,tests, tests and more tests.
