Drill a small hole at the bottom center of the can. Place the string through the hole. Tighten the string to the speaker. Get a small paper clip and wind the string on the paper clip. Tighten. With the can upside down, melt glue stick over the paper clip and unto the can. The glue will stick to the can. Good luck!
Im thinking of selling the can Amp as it is. Still havent managed to find a more reliable way to keep the speaker on other than blue tack. But if any1 is interested let me know :)
@vekx just make a connector outside - You may probably drill a hole in the bottom and make a stand that'll cover the battery and add some stability... :)
@pisselitscarlet1 An LM386 chip, a few capacitors and resistors, 2 10k pots, a 9 volt, switch, speaker and a jack for the guitar. An LED as a power indicator is optional.
Google lm386 data sheet you'll find the schematic on like page 3.
Hideously out bent there, hm, interesting dissonance .....
Im thinking of maybe buying the 0,5 watt guitar diy kit from ebay and screw the speaker on the bongos bigger bottom frame. or sticking the speaker on a paper box probably as big as shoe box
Is the sound pleasant to listen to for real in certain situations or do you have it more for novelty factor ?
imagine making a 100 watt out of a 12 pack!

You can use the magnetic field of the speaker to hold it in.
So have a glued down Iron piece for the magnet to try to stick on
