  • So isn't the sticking FRLRLRRLLF? if you start of the kick? This lick is nice tho

  • T, you are sick dude.

  • Damn, all the technical talk is lost on this white boy. I've never had the discipline to learn and practice formally. I'm a feel-it only guy, which has hindered my playing. oh, I can groove, but try to get too fancy I'm exposed as a fraud!

  • I'd say you'd be more of a fraud if you could do all the fancy stuff but, couldn't groove!

  • Billy Canty just turned me on to you. You sound great! Billy is from Louisiana but lives in Florida now. You guys sound alot alike.

    Keep up the jams!

  • and whats the exact sticking?

  • it's RLRLRRLLFF

  • thanx!

  • it seems like a great lick. anyone got it notated? it is hard to comprehend on youtube. i have a cool thomas mcree groove i could trade.

  • i have it notated hit me up

  • haha dude, everythings steve gadd.. why even try to be original.

  • its steve gadd.

  • I can hear the snare !!! lol !!!! Keep It funky man and rep for the Big easy !!!

  • nice. good for a solo

  • That's awesome man. Is it just RLRLFF?

  • it's RLRLRRLLFF

  • i thought it was a triplet thing, u have 1 too many notes in that. can u get back to me cause thats kinda like something i do anyways . and it would be easy to put in some things. cool. ill watch this space.

    Cheers

  • Yeah your right it's not a triplet thing like i originally said in the clip however the lick is based off of a 16th note triplet lick that i like to do demonstrated at 1:07 in the clip......thanks for the words

  • So the whole lick is in a grouping of 10. How does that work when laying a beat down to shedding the lick? Do you just go by feel/pulse or do you just hold on to your seat and pray for "1"?

I love the lick and really want to learn it - just seems that the sticking makes it not flow so nice. I dunno.

  • the best way to shed this lick is to set a click and play a groove and then play a bar of the lick, all it is is playing 10/16ths in 4/4 time, the sticking is very important in this lick, By starting with the kick and accenting on the right hand using this sticking helps it flow and gives it flare in my opinion, also start the lick slow using only the kick snare and floor tom and then move it around the kick

    let me know

    swamp

  • Hey Dude FUNNNNNKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Could you slow it down a bit so us po unfortunate and less talented souls can try to figure it out

one thing is for sho Bro Ill be woodshedding this one

BTW Im a long time Funk and R/B drummer From Breaux Bridge La.

  • Yeah, you can just do that. It's so easy to do. Really. Just do it. it's just AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and then you got it. cake.

  • funny...lol

  • yeah you explain it but do you break it down? not really helpful, but nice lick

  • the lick is really simple, and i apoligize for not breaking it all the way down, but if you think of a dbl paradiddle diddle and add an extra diddle with the foot at the begining or the end then you got it

  • im gonna try that tomorrow night and see if i dont get stabbed by my bassman lol

  • hahahahahahahahahaha I know what u mean , he probaly will stab u! lol

  • I tried it during purple rain.....I just got out of the hospital

  • hahahahahhahahahahahahaha lol

  • thx man that was awesome, maybe im gonna use that!! hehehe lol

  • can you explain me the sticking? :/

  • yo thanks for your post

the sticking to this lick is

    RLRL RRLL FF IN 16TH'S

    XXXX XXXX XX

ON THE CLIP I LEAD IN WITH THE FOOT

PLAY IT LINEAR AND MOVE IT AROUND THE KIT

try coming up with your own variations using this concept

    thanks

    swamppjig
