His son James Franklin Massey, learned Cherokee as a child, and joined the Confederate Cavalry at age 14. After the James went west to Texas and Oklahoma, to escape Reconstruction, & to live with ex Confederate Cherokees.

I find it laughable that it is not mentioned that the man Lt. Col Parker worked for Gen. Grant was PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE for the Indian Massacres which took place after the close of the War for Southern Independence. Sheridan, Sherman, Crook and Custer were the leaders of this genocide against the indigenous peoples.
