In November 2006 the 8800GTX was the fastest card on the planet I think, but it was $500, then the 8800GT was released in 2007 and it was $200 and not much slower, so the 8800GT/9800GT is still the most used card for gaming out there I think, and every game on the planet supports it, and some engines haven't changed all that much since 2007.
but,why they keep making shit cards like 7200gs and 8400 gs today?
These cards should be forgotten now .. but still on the market, and the 9800GT has a better cost-benefit stopped being manufactured, because logically affect the sales of new generation cards.
HOLY SHIT! 4-5 year old card!!! time flies. i really really loved this card, best card ive had and lasted 4 and a half years!! RIP 9800 but its time for a GTX 560 ti. Merry Christmas :']
makes me sad that XFX is exclusively with ATI =/ XFX are the best looking cards out there imo, and customer service is purely amazing
in BF3,was running smooth but in the mission "going hunting" the 9800gt down-clocks its gpu clock to 300 Mhz and memory clock to 100Mhz and the game minimizes itself and doesn't come to front again,these settings doesn't change until i restart the PC,by settings i mean both the clocks ,initially the overclocking clocks are 700mhz gpu and 900mhz memory. also i had a similar down-clocking problem in "Nfs The RUN", kindly help me in this regard.
@fawadbasit it's probably the engine's fault. Both games use Frostbite 2, which is pretty heavy, it requires a gtx 560 to run smoothly. Your card just can't handle it. I have the same one, but with 1 gig vram and I'm going to be switching to a gtx 560 these days.
I'm running a Gainward 9800GT with the same clock and core speeds as this one and he's right, it still performs very well. It easily plays just about anything I throw at it and now that the price has dropped a 9800 is a lot of videocard for the money.
Hi. I really like those cards. I had an 8800 gt and now i have a gts 450. Actually i find the gts 450 way worse as the 8800 gf . At low resolution is not so bad but at high res the 8800 gt kick his ass by far
@MBbrut You could be finding the GTS450 worse because of the bus width. I'm pretty sure that the GTS450 has a narrower 128-bit memory bus, while the 8800GT came with a 256-bit bus.
The GTS 450 has significantly faster GDDR5 memory though, it looks like it's about on par versus the 8800GT/9800GT for bandwidth and overall performance, maybe a bit faster.
The GTX 550 is a decent upgrade over the GTS 450 though.
Also, anyone know how much of an upgrade the 560-Ti would be from a 9800-GT? I believe I'm only running on PCI-E 1.0 will upgrade in the future but just wondering if it's worth it even with running on 1.0.
I bought this card about 2 years ago except there was one difference, mine didn't have anywhere to hook up a 6-pin connector, it was powered by the mobo. I think this is why it's not very stable when trying to overclock. The card also runs hot and after a couple of years the fan has recently broken down. I'm going to buy a cheap replacement fan hopefully it'll work, 55mm fan diameter 39mm distance between mounting holes is what I think I measured, hope that's right. Card runs skyrim really well.
and is it me or do many pc gamers defend pc gamers with bad ports? how are they bad ports when they are made on pcs? if it was the other way around you would still slag consoles off. just get with the times and play games on all formats
yep i just got one of these.. let me tell you my story.. my old 8800gt pc broke, a few years back, and i fixed it and added a 9800gt just a few days ago as the cpu ram cant be upgraded further... i can run games like l4d dawn of war 2 f1 2011 , you know all currwent gen gamesetc etc very easy, pc gamers make these things out of date because they are obsessed with graphics. this runs better than my ps3 or xbox. pc gaming is a niche market admit it.
@Usul573 can you help me i dont want to be an ass but i need your help :p i wont have to turn down the quality of the graphics or anything will i, also say im playing zombies it wont shut off because of too much zombies right?
@Usul573 thx u helped me a ton ill try this btw do u wanna ply cod or sumthin sometime jus got an alienware instead but ill probably still try wat u said on my old cpu (gonna get a GTX 560 1GB or 6870 1GB and a 1tb external hard drive)ur right it is tricky lol :)
It's the best I can find for the bucks... I have little money to spare to upgrade right now, so I think I'm going to go with it. If anything goes beyond the specs of the card, I got a Ps3 and xbox360 for that same reason. :)
@Usul573 Woups!! Haha, first time that happened to me, confused my original post with another post. ;) In another vid someone was demoying COD Modern W2, with this card, and I was wondering if he used the 1gb version or the 512mb version. Sorry about the confusion.
this card is great i have had it for around 3 years plays everything 25fps+ on all games, but then it died, and xfx sent me a 5750 which was defective
I picked this card up last year used for dirt cheap to upgrade my low priced refurbished dell purchase (Phenom II X4 820), and it works very well. I even played the Crysis 2 demo on my 1080p monitor- but with most graphical extras turned off. It also plays Metro 2033 just fine in base settings.
Would this video card work on a 430 watt power supply? The website says 400 but I'm not 100% sure. And no this can't be used on a Laptop. And no you cannot use as an external on a Laptop.

I know it will still work, but to a lower potential.. What is that potential? How much would the 9800 be dumbed down in my 1.0 slot? or am i wrong? :/
@maxproxyDotTK thanks for reply i looked up my model and the motherboard has the expansion slots 1 PCI Express x16 slot for graphics card and 3 PCI Express x1 slots
@MasterFuglsang I have a gts 450 got it for $95 and i can get 40-60 FPS on BFBC2 with all high settings on a 1680x1050 monitor, i say its a pretty good card, also with overclocking i got it to outperform a 5770
@julian23561 of course your gpu could have ddr5 and still work with ddr1 the graphics card has its own memory controller and will not interfere with your motherboard memory
Old girl will never die though, no game on the planet doesn't support it, I don't think any game will need more than a 9800GT for.....forever.....maybe.
Not really,,,if your playing High Def(1920*1080) like most people are then it scrappes the edges around a few games....
For example in Mafia 2 you have to disable AgeiaPhysix and Anti-Aliasing to getting decent frames...
And in games like Crysis,, Crysis Warhead and the latest sequel(Beta Leaked Version) ,,,,the settings need to be cranked down a bit probably to mid if ur gonna play full high def....
But yes i do agree anything below full HD and u'll be able to crank it all the way!!
I Was replying to this particular comment of yours..
"Old girl will never die though, no game on the planet doesn't support it, I don't think any game will need more than a 9800GT for.....forever.....maybe."
Is there an easy way to learn how to build your own computer? I mean at the moment I'm still in highschool, but I'd like to understand how everything works. I have some free time comming up after school, so anything you guys know please let me know. Thanks for the help.
Put these things together with a PSU and u hav a PC...
Now in order to learn how to do it try surfing youtube for
"Tutorials On Assembling PC"
Hope This Helps...
But remember you might not get it right the first time...i actually shorted out my motherboard the first time in tried doing it(Had connected the wrong power cords :-p)
So try doing it with relatively inexpensive parts the first time you do it!!
I too have a geforce 9800 gt. But I cant play Starcraft 2 on it with high resolution, or else I'll lagg my arse off. Whats with that, could somebody plz explain?
Could this play "Napoleon Total War" on high graphics settings or ultra? and is my Radeon HD 5550 GPU better than this graphics card? Plz respond to this. ;)
@xX3PIDEMICXx27 Yes, 9800 GT can easily run Any game in the "Total war" series. It could most definetely playa on high with out any lag. But on Ultra you might just get a tad bit of lag. Radeon HD 5550 GPU is better than this card, not much though. 9800gt Can run new games even though It is outdated, I would recommend getting this card. For the price and how it handles.
More RAM? They both have either 512MB or 1GB, for the most part.
When it comes to specs, the 9800GT has the bandwidth and fillrate advantages, more TMUs and ROPs, very different shaders though that can't be directly compared.
Look up 5550 reviews though it can't match the 9800GT.
dude can u tel me 1 thng? -.- is CORE 2 DUO compatible with XFX Motherbord Geforce 8200? n shall 9800gtx can be placed in it ? please Help me bro!

Ideally for the COD games, a GTX 560 1GB or 6870 1GB would be perfect, you can get either around the $170 to $190 range.
Note that your processor and memory should be good also, upgrading PCs is tricky.

pijef 11 months ago

MrTakemeawaynow 11 months ago
will that work on ddr2 ram motherboards, coz i have a ddr2 and i heard that its ddr3
julian23561 11 months ago
@julian23561 of course your gpu could have ddr5 and still work with ddr1 the graphics card has its own memory controller and will not interfere with your motherboard memory

Wich is the Difference between 9800 GT and 9800 GTX+
ElBribri 11 months ago
@ElBribri
Think of the 9800 GTX+ as an upgraded 9800 GT.
Usul573 11 months ago
@Usul573 I already think of it as an upgraded 9800GT, but again,what specs make the difference between the two?
ElBribri 11 months ago
@ElBribri
You asked for it.
9800GT is a 112x56x16 core, and clock speeds are 600/1500/1800
9800GTX+ is a 128x64x16 core, and clock speeds are 738/1836/2200
At least for the most "standard" version of the cards. The GTS 250 is basically a 9800GTX+ also. Still a good card, not DX11 though.
Usul573 11 months ago
@Usul573 Thank You
ElBribri 11 months ago
@Usul573
The GTS250 is anyway not really powerful to utilize Dx11 in the first place...
If ur gonna play Dx11 atleast a GTX275 is recommended...
Anitrex4Anitrex 11 months ago
@Anitrex4Anitrex
GTS 250 and GTX 275 don't have DX11.

Old girl will never die though, no game on the planet doesn't support it, I don't think any game will need more than a 9800GT for.....forever.....maybe.
Usul573 11 months ago
@Usul573

Is there an easy way to learn how to build your own computer? I mean at the moment I'm still in highschool, but I'd like to understand how everything works. I have some free time comming up after school, so anything you guys know please let me know. Thanks for the help.

@zenith110
Could buy a barebones PC and it'll come with everything to put together a decent gaming PC by yourself, instructions and such. $500 usually.

Motherboard-Main
On it u have the CPU and the GPU...
Then there's the RAM...

Could this play "Napoleon Total War" on high graphics settings or ultra? and is my Radeon HD 5550 GPU better than this graphics card? Plz respond to this. ;)
xX3PIDEMICXx27 1 year ago
@xX3PIDEMICXx27 Yes, 9800 GT can easily run Any game in the "Total war" series. It could most definetely playa on high with out any lag. But on Ultra you might just get a tad bit of lag. Radeon HD 5550 GPU is better than this card, not much though. 9800gt Can run new games even though It is outdated, I would recommend getting this card. For the price and how it handles.
pijef 1 year ago
@pijef
5550 is worse, the 5670 is usually slightly slower than the 9800GT.
Usul573 1 year ago
@Usul573
5550 has more RAM, and higher on every specifications on the 98000GT card making in better.
pijef 1 year ago
@pijef
More RAM? They both have either 512MB or 1GB, for the most part.
When it comes to specs, the 9800GT has the bandwidth and fillrate advantages, more TMUs and ROPs, very different shaders though that can't be directly compared.
Look up 5550 reviews though it can't match the 9800GT.
Usul573 1 year ago
@Usul573
What are you talking about, because I'm not talking about the 5550, listen.
5670 Has 1GB of RAM, More than the 512mb of he 98000 card.
Half of games on 9800GT will have 30CPU damage. 5670? 12. Shaders on GCD cannot be matched or compared to the 5670 card.
Research 5670 review, 9800GT cannot compare to it .

@pijef
Oh, well you said "5550 has more RAM, and higher on every specifications on the 98000GT card making in better."
5670 and 9800GT can both have 512MB or 1GB depending on the card.
The 5670 will beat the 9800GT sometimes.
