  • Great! Thank you so much for posting this!

  • you this wrong

  • Ignore the people who hate on Jared because of the way he speaks or how he conveys his message. The important part is that he's an accomplished percussionist and musician, he knows what he's talking about, and even more so he's able to communicate it to anyone. Whether you are an advanced player or someone who sat at a kit for the first time you will always have something to learn from this guy.

Man...some people take internet anonymity for granted.

  • This really helped me alot!

  • this man is true hero to failing beginner players like i was back in the day... he helped a lot

  • Nice shoes.

  • he rocks...he teached me alot dude....

    XD

  • this video makes me feel like a 5 year old

  • These video's are very informative. I have played drums for many years, and it is still great to go back and see tecniques that help make drumming easier for us aging curmudgeons. One thing, whether you use the foreleg method, or the heel method, you want to be sure that the bass drum pedal is adjusted so that the mallet doesn't come back and strike your shinbone repeatedly. There probably is a conditon the doctors treat called 'Drummers Shin' or something like it. Thanks for the video.

  • its truly fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! specially for a new drummer like me!!!!

  • good lesson!...

  • he sounds lke napoleon dynamite in blades of glory :)

  • i play heel down most of the time, including when i play double. i just don't get heel up

  • Jimmy Machelroy plays drums?

  • I feel like I set up my kit like a noob...

  • don't wanna mis pronounce this guys last name

  • started out using the first method then the third. both are good but for double strokes use the third much easier

  • I use both techniques depending on how im feeling and what im playing, faster, harder stuff ill use heel up, slower quieter stuff ill play heels down. Nice video man.

  • @discohunter12 How long did it take you to develope the muscles for the heel down technique?

  • @icame2dance1 I dont know really, i dont play anything hard on the heel down as i just can't get the speed/power out of it.

  • @discohunter12 That's what I noticed. I thought it was my pedal (it's kinda crappy lol) so I was thinking maybe I could get a little more power out of a nicer one. Do you ever need to combine them for complicated bass patterns? Or do you just use one at a time?

  • These vids are awesome but not the people that are teaching...

  • awesomeness!!!!!!

  • hehehe, despite his attempts of clear speaking, he still says "drummin"

  • i rarley use heals up

  • Heals up confuses me

  • I Just used heal down to help me learn double bass galloping, and I just switched to heel up on the gallop. so yeah it really helps to get calf muscle control.

  • good info and give this guy a break he's probably reading a script written by someone else and saying it how the producer wants him to

  • Comment removed

  • if you learn to play heel-up AND heel-down, then if you double pedal, learning the heel-toe technique is WAAAY easier...but the catch for that is to have a longboard pedal

  • @afrofuck heel toe is a really bad techique, for many drummers, because it can easily get really sloppy and not even strokes. but everything are perefrenses

  • @Drummerdrok666 ya I guess haha!! I've gotten pretty good at heel-toe =/ but maybe it'll screw me some day, I dunno

  • jared why do i feel heels up so hard to perform?

  • i love you jared

  • people make fun of this guy, but I really enjoy watching his videos, he has a lot of great knowledge to share.

  • Some people are just ignorant. Here this guy is just trying pass on what he has picked up and to teach people who want to learn and some people are on here making fun of this guy. It is really a damn shame. He seems like a nice guy.

  • Can you talk any slower, we are all dimwits.

  • @tradetodeath seriously, if he talked normaly the video couldve been about a minute and a half at most

  • Danke Vielmals!

  • pretty useful I didn't look at this that way

about stopping the sound leaving the pedal pressed

  • great video and information...this one is extremely helpful

  • the other guys is fat now this guy is fucking thin...

  • man ive been drumming for years and this viseo really helped me heaps

  • man now i learn da proper techniques!

  • great video, now i see why i kept losing my energy while useing my bass drum... ill remember next time :)

  • you are an idiot seriously. i play heel down for my jazzy drumming but i play heel up/ moeller for my rock/metal drumming, don't go telling the new drummers your crap, it really is what works for you.

  • wtf ok because u would no better its wat ppl prefer

  • i totally agree man, thats the way it is for most people

  • @BlackSeptre yea, he's saying its what works for you. all he's saying is to try and learn the others as time goes on, very useful info as it gives you alot more dynamic and choice to your playing.

  • fag? gay? for 5 year olds?

total crap, this video is awesome, and for beginners. but even if you have been drumming for years, it might give you a new perspective on your footwork.

might be the best tutorial on anything I've seen on YouTube (so far). stunning clearness and comprehensibility in all aspects - picture, voice, drum sound, camera angles, content.

    great work,

    staying tuned,

    ro

  • I agree, at first, like when he was saying underdeveloped i was like man this guy is so annoying, but then i realized that this is exactly what i was looking for as a begginner set player who just wanted to know the right technique

  • @romaneberle crap...beginners dont play double bass...people plays double bass when they already masters single bass...

  • no kidding

  • Drumming is the most fun when your options can be used whenever you want...

  • i love it when people talk to me like i'm a retard, i hate this guys dialect, but good lessons.

  • Its so all ages and cultures can understand you thick fucker.

  • chill out man, i was just saying.

  • he's a good kid. leave him alone. I like the way he just whispers to us. What is burry the beater?

  • Bury the beater is when you push down and keep your foot down, You do not let it rebound. Its more powerful and gives alot louder of a beat :)

  • wut he means by bury the beater is hold the pedal down after the stroke so the beater is still touching the pad after the stroke get it

  • Hey great video lessons! Great for helping good technique and the right way to learn from starting out! Enjoying watching the videos!! Good job on all the videos. Cheers, G

  • I am.

  • It's 'retarded'... retard.

  • says the one who says that sentence should've been "i love it when people talk to me like im a retarded" that sounds like mario u twat go learn english before you slag someone elses.

  • Do you have learning difficulties? LAXdrummer55 said "WE'RE NOT RETARTED!!!!". If he changed it to 'retarded' then he'd be right... but apparently he's just as illiterate as you are. Spacker. Have a nice day. :)

  • read my message and i thought you were talking about fivenineoneforty . my bad then im on your side, he is retarded :S

  • holy shit i just realized he looks like the faggot from reno 911 omg thats helarious

  • lmao yes he does

  • he makes it sound like we are retarded or def and cant understand wat hes saying. wat a fagg

  • haha u are so right.starting to hate him because of that.

  • I think that he speaks like this so international users can understand his English. I respect him for that

  • @hooksandbullets no, he's just gay :D

  • @froibaad1 GTFO

  • lol i play heel up.. :D im learning to do heel down..

  • i tried heel down quite early on in my drumming but gave up cause it was actually quite uncomfortable, almost painful! Ive only been drumming over a year now and ive been practising double beats on a single all since then and i think im pretty decent if i do say so myself XD

  • NAPOLEON DYNAMITE LOL

  • I'm tired of people saying that heel down is only for jazz drumming, cuz it's not true. If you have a decent drum pedal, like a Ludwig Speed King (none of that DW crap), the bass pedal is actually made to be played heel down, and gives you far more control and speed.

  • Can someone tell me if with the heels up strokes u must let the beater rebuonce?

  • You can let the beater bounce back naturally, or you can bury the beater, and use your foot to keep the beater in the head.

  • have you noticed that they wear the same clothes every video

  • lmso.. thats way 2 funny

  • xAdvertisement I guess.

  • i think heel down will give you more ... speed(i dunnoxD) when your playing fast punk rock- like beats, but i use heel up when i usually do double bass patterns. xP i probably have no idea what im talking about

  • Less power comes from heel down dude. But your completely right :) I use the heel up kollias swivel if you have heard of that? lol

  • do you have any padding in your bass drum, if not put some pillows or a duvet in the drum

  • Guys, I got a problem, was wondering if you had some insight. When I "bury" the pedal in the head (Jeff Porcaro style) as he described it, it beater vibrates against the head and makes a choked vibration sound. Why is it doing that?

  • i use both when. When i am playing in my band i use heels up and heels down. All in all pretty good video. But you sound like that guy from 30 rock.that show rocks. What ever good vodeo

  • "Bawlth Methods"

  • i try heels down all the time, but it requires a lot of power and somehow, i cant achieve a good speed. Sometimes, my feet are even off the bass pedal requires a lot of power) How can I speed up my bass (heels up)?

  • I use the held down, and first my leg hurtsss!! but i practiced a lot and now i dont feel pain. I have to practice the other method, is for speedy songs, its better but for me is difficult because i learned the other hehehe. Sorry for my english U.U, and cool lesson!!!

  • sounds like john heder xD

  • probably is XD

  • I play with my heels down, but I noticed I can get a helluva lot more speed when I do heels up. I use down most though

  • i cant do both. My legs are too hard

  • man dont worry, just keep on practicing and youll soon see the progress.

I was like you whaen i first started playing, but with some practice im starting to be able to play songs a bit more fast like iron maiden, blink and some of helloween.

  • Love the lesson although you have to get rid of that cheap camera angle changing technique. Its like a Daytime Soap OPera or something. Heels down rocks, I think it should be learned first. much easier much faster. Until you get into some advanced drumming, heels down will do just fine.

  • dude,i admire u.i couldnt do a basic beat and now i can do punk beats and jazz beats

  • i heard u could injure ur foot with the heel down technique

  • hahahah injure ure foot lol of course not

  • I've been playing heels down regularly for about 2 years now and my foot is fine.

  • How are you tuning that kick? Do you have a muffle inside or a ring muffle under the batter head? Sounds amazing!!

  • reminds me of the bass used in Iron Man

  • Im talkin about the song from black sabbath

  • Then don`t watch them

  • why not, laughing's good for your health

  • thanks dude !! sweet set!!!

  • man ur set is beautiful... what is that?

  • :) Great. Thanks alot

  • dude thank you so much im so excited because i just got my first drumkit and it's helping a ton :)))) keep making vids! ;)

  • c00l vid .could contain a pattern also for exmpleto better understanding
