The problem with the last gen's i5 wasn't the hp, it was the torque and powerband. That's why the 4.3 pulls so much harder. The turbo diesel is a great idea.
change the front end so it dosent look like a malibu or an equinox and actually put a powerful engine in it and actually release this truck and gm might have something else going for them. dont put the gutless 5.3 or underwhelming I5 in it. retool the 4.3 like the camaro v6 so it actually competes with the pentastar and ford 4.0 or use the 4.2 I6. but no that would make too much sense.
@TheRealDannTheMan yeah the 4.3 has been putting that out since they changed it to a vortec. the only time it ever put out any power is when it was in the syclone and typhoon, its remained unchanged. and i believe at first the I5 was rated at 220hp-240hp. its mpgs arent too bad if you stay off the gas but get about the same as the v8s if u drive it a little harder. 4.3 isnt any better but i am getting 21 or so mpgs out if my 97 4.3 vortec 4x4 blazer.
the one thing we can always count on is that GM will a;ways buils the opposite of the concept vehicles. Today is 2011 and Colorado looks nowhere like this concept. As a matter of a fact VW builds the truck that looks like this in South America. GM is still using 2005 design and technology in 2011.
it looks like from the interior that chevy finally entered the 21st century with technology that was new in 2004 in European cars, that or since this is the Thailand version it will be more tech savy and the americans have to settle with cheap plastic and dials.
This is just the eventual design spectrum that all cars will be heading to as car designs continue to evolve and move forward. In other words, since I'm a Chevy guy, I think its good to see some new designs being made at Chevrolet it taking the first steps. Its time Chevy gets to take some leads again, rather then wait and see what the competition will come out with first, then decide to make something second. Lets make the others guys chase us for a while. Viva La Chevrolet.
