Actually, none of the Touhou EX-Bosses are really challenging, and are nowhere near as challenging as people make them out to be.

@KlLLAH573 I think Ran is harder than Yukari because Ran is more random-bullshit stuff like Fox Tanuki Youkai Laser, and all Yukari does is add a few more bullets which usually dont really deter you. Also I'd like to play with a mouse, because my controls are choppy, but whatevskis.

I think the hardest extra boss would be... Maybe Mokou just for Fujiyama Volcano... Maze of Love and QED are pretty hard... Koishi /can/ be... Suwako is kinda difficult?

@Hijijiriri I actually thought that Mesh of Light and Darkness was more genuinely difficult than Fox-Tanuki Youkai Laser. Yukari's spell has to be micro-dodged, while Ran's spell can easily be macro-dodged.

Suwako's challenge comes mostly from her nonspells and "guessing the gimmick" of her spellcards; otherwise, she is easy to beat. Mokou is fairly difficult for me because her bullets are OBNOXIOUSLY SLOW, and I hate slow bullets.

@Hijijiriri Flandre was pretty easy to beat, except maybe for QED. I found out that Maze of Love is actually a 100% static pattern that can be BS-cleared with memorized movements without going around in circles.

I think Koishi is the most difficult, her attacks don't make much use of gimmicks and instead require a lot of pure dodging skill.

@KlLLAH573 I think they all have their one killer card that makes them difficult. Koishi isn't terribly hard for me besides ummm Genetics of the Unknown? I can't remember i haven't faced her in forever its the one where she flies around the screen. Philosophy is also really really hard but the fact that Subterranean Rose can be timed out on the easiest phase to avoid the difficulty kinda ruins it for her... Plus her first card isa joke and Id/Super-Ego aren't hard if you keep moving.

Hmmm~mmm. Maybe it's just my fancy imagining (it probably is), but I like to view this as Touhou's anthem. These girls you fight...even the stupid ones like Mystia, or the jokers like Meiling...could beat the ass of normal humans (like us, the protags are god-weight) into oblivion. Utter domination. and even the more masculine of the characters, like Mokou and Yuugi, still maintain a certain class while they fire their bullet vomit at you... Charm.

Touhou = Charming Domination.

@Sone9Anna I believe Charming in this sense refers to the method of hunting by fox, called Charming. The song probably just refers how your character in the netherworld is being blockaded (Extra) and chased (Phantasm) by Ran, trying to kill you preventing you from reaching her master.

Outside of Gensokyo, shrine maidens and witches get their asses beat by robot maids powered by cacti. And that robot maid gets beat by a border-manipulating spaceship.

But you explained perfectly why I would not want to go to Gensokyo.

@Hijijiriri I actually have been testing a program I wrote to control shoot-em-ups with a mouse (and I mean NOT just 8-way movement). Working well, so far. I just have to add more options and control schemes.

at least i can reach flandre in EoSD.. though i think the extra stage is easier than pcb's extra and Patchy isnt as hard as chen.

Just look at the beginning of extra in pcb o.O the first 2 attacks are easy.. if you know how they aim at you, but then the ones coming from the side are deadly >.< or at least take a bomb...

You've figured out the first two barrages, and that's good. A good trick for getting past the ones that come from the sides is to focus as little as possible so you can get hits on them reasonably fast, and to move just barely enough to dodge the bullets as they come toward you. If you started this at the center of the stage, there should be a reasonably comfortable gap between the next few salvos.

Keep in mind I'm only helping you because you hurt Chen in Stage 2.

Funny how Ran's theme's name has Yukari's song name in it and the stage for the phantasm has the name of the extra stage on it...

Actually, Yukari's theme has Ran's theme name and meaning (Dead Fantasy, Necro = Dead in greek and Fantasia = Fantasy in spanish). The Phantasm stage theme is more like "Who is the real charmin culprit"
