Not one review has had anything positive to say about the LRA, everyone hates it and sees it as a burden in terms of overall performance. Just lookn at how a 2006 Roush Stang w/ IRS and 415HP slaps around the GT500 and 5.0. And it would cost less than a new Stang.

Every year the Stangs new model came out first which allowed GM to evaluate exactly how to top it. They've done that since the early 90's

I give a lot of respect to the new camaros given that they actually spurred competition (since they didn't exist since '02 prior to that) and finally got ford to design a new engine (v6 and v8 I Love my 06 v6 but that cologne 4.0 really is an archaic motor) For now Mustang is winning the fight because as you say the 2011 camaro isn't out yet.

GM's OHV's are brilliant and the LS3, LSA, LS7 & LS9 can compete with anything Europe can throw, as prooven in cars like the Z06, CTSV, ZR1.

@jodah2003 A fully Loaded CTSV weighs in about 4200lbs dry. GM hasnt realeased any official confirmed info, except the fact that it will use an LSA. That's all they said about it.
Either way the CTSV weighing 4200lbs does 0-60 in 3.9 secs and has a quarter mile time of 12.2 secs (GT500 12.4 secs) Thank its briilant suspension system, LSD and amazing transmission. (auto accels better than the manual and is .1 secs quicker in the 1/4 which is substanstial in drag times.)

@jodah2003 Oh Hell no these New Caddy's are nothing like the ones of the Past, esp the CTSV (fastest 4 door in the world) if you want to see why that exists look up the M5, E63 AMG, XKR, Panamara (performace luxury sedans). And the CTSV outperforms them and is rated higher in performance, quality, and w/ the best warranty.

If i recall the mustang was originally marketed towards women, but it was such a success chevy had to have a slice of the pony car pie. It then spawned a car war which inevitably Ford won. Except now the war is on again, and if chevy and dodge want to move ahead they need to look into ohc technology, europe has been doing it for ages and kicking our asses at it. hey the v6 in the camaro is a dohc directed inject v6 making great power and fuel economy.
Why should they swith to OHC engines when they have OHV engines that can produce as much HP and way more torque.
I/E the LS7 an OHV engine is far lighter and easier to maintain than a OHC engine. Also when something breaks on a OHC engine it is far harder and more expensive to repair, not to mention the high revs they create doesnt help fuel consuption and engine longevity.
Find me one 500+ HP N/A OHC v8 that gets 27mpg highway and produces similar torque and is as relaible as say an LS7

It has a curb weight below 3200lbs and a drag coeficient of .31 now add that to the fact that the LS7 makes alot of torque at such low revs.

Ya it does get 27mpg highway and 17 city. When you drive it without putting your foot down. That's what torque and light weight does for you.
FYI there are Yenko's with ZL1's Don Yenko's most famous creation was a light weight camaro that he dropped a Zl1 in. It was so fast Chevy had to make the Vette faster because they didnt want the Camaro to beat it.

The ZL-1 was made available only for 1969 under COPO 9560 and Chevrolet needed to install 50 copies to qualify the ZL1 Camaro for racing. Chevrolet eventually built 69 Camaros and 2 Corvettes with the ZL1 engine. With factory exhausts and tires, ZL1 Camaros could turn low 13s, with headers and slicks, they could turn 11.6s @ 122mph.

But only one car was built. this G.T.500 had a lightweight 427, tuned to 520hp, Carroll Shelby hit speeds over 170 miles per hour in this beast, at the Goodyear track in Texas where he was testing some tires with the car.

The Camaro was only designed in the first place to show up the Mustang and it did. They always made sure their camaro's were faster otherwise they wouldnt make them.
An Camaro SS has a independent rear suspension, limited slip diff, and brembo brakes. where as the GT500 has a live rear axle with leafspring suspension and iron factory brakes from the Stang GT. But yet it costs more?
Put a similar SC on the LS3 with similar psi and it will blow a Gt500 to hell, and still be cheaper.

Well unfortunately for Ford fans Ford does not get into the Liters that Chevy is in otherwise hp would be exceeded in and way over GMs. Pushrod cannot compete with OHC setups on hp per Liters. It is a fact. Why do you think Ferrari, Massarati, Lambos and all those exotics use OHC setups? Figure it out.
OHV engines are far lighter and more relaible than a OHC engine. They are easier to maintain and last longer, and produce a shit load more torque.
And the Weak side to OHC engines is that they have high revs which means faster wear and more fuel consumption.
The Z06 does 27mpg highway find me a comprable DOHC v8 with 500hp that can do that. Also find me a NA DOHC v8 that will have anything close to the ls7's torque.
z06 should be doing that with a .50 overdrive 6th and 3.42 rear end. Oh yeah it weighs 3150. it better be doing that. lol. It will never get any better than that. GM has reached it's limit. They have extended the use of Transmissions and rear end combos. Ford still has a lot more to play with. Just wait.
Ford wont do anything to threaten the Z06 a sports car with their pathetic SC'd muscle cars. The Z06 weighs 800lbs less than a Shelby and has a way lower drag coeficient. Which actually makes it stable at speed.
Not to mention its lightweight low intertia Clutch and Flywheel that can shift two gears in the time it takes a shebly to do one.
The 9psi of boost it GT500 has is a very mild amount. Should be a gain of 90hp-110hp at the most. GM will never acheive hp numbers with or the same liters as Ford. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
Haha Chevy has always thumped Ford in engine making look up the ZL1 and Z88 engines they were making well over 450HP back in the 60's.

well.ford's 6.2 for their Raptor (cool truck BTW) only makes 400hp where as the 6.2 liter ls3 makes 430hp. They just detuned it slightly so the SS wouldnt have the same HP as a base vette.

The CTS-V is a fast car but you will never have the power to weight ratio of the GT500.

MT does real world tests which means that yes the performance stats vary b/c its near impossoible to run perfect 1/4 miles time and time again some will be slower than others.
But the fastest Bone stock GT500 from any source is 12.4 secs.
The reason I mentioned the CTSV is exactly b/c its heavy but its superior engine and technology makes it faster.

With this out. There is no pony war. GT500 has no competition. The engine on this ride can handle as much hp as the Ford GT aluminum engine with cast iron sleeves can. Except this one has a new technological coating in the cylinder walls that act like cast iron sleeves but reduce weight and does not create as much friction as cast iron sleeves. GO FORD!

It gets better, The new 2011 560HP Z28 debuts in late 2010.
It will utilize aluminum to shed weight with an expected curbweight around 3500lbs (GT500 3900lbs)
The Aluminum 6.2 Liter LSA will be dropped in along with the clutch and flywheel form the Vette.
It will also use GM's magnetic selective IRS, and track tuned LSD from the CTSV.
GM said it would be priced competively with the GT500, but with that suspension, engine and LSD its worth paying a little more than a Gt500

When you have a pathetic chassis that cant handle its power then HP is irrelevant. This is why a 4300LB CTSV is faster than a GT500.

Not one review has had anything positive to say about the LRA, everyone hates it and sees it as a burden in terms of overall performance. Just lookn at how a 2006 Roush Stang w/ IRS and 415HP slaps around the GT500 and 5.0. And it would cost less than a new Stang.

Also the 2010 Camaro was a rushed product and they also had no concern about weight, it wouldnt be terribly difficult for them shed some weight, sure it wont be Stang light b/c it wont have such a watered down chassis. GM isnt new to making performance machines they've done it since 53.

Also GM's only method on selling the Camaro has been the ability to say its better than a Stang. If they dont answer they'll lose money and believe me they know that.
As of now the 2011 GT holds the Advantage over a 2010 SS SLIGHTY its not a landslide like fanboys try to claim.

@jodah2003 Also note GM recenty confirmed at SEMA that the Z28 is going to debut in either late 2010 or early 2011. Not much is known publicly except its use of the 6.2 liter LSA V8 from the CTSV.
Dont be a Fan Boy, but do enjoy the new Stang its a hell of alot better than it was in 05 and the 5.0 is arguably the best N/A engine to be in a Stang.

I give a lot of respect to the new camaros given that they actually spurred competition (since they didn't exist since '02 prior to that) and finally got ford to design a new engine (v6 and v8 I Love my 06 v6 but that cologne 4.0 really is an archaic motor) For now Mustang is winning the fight because as you say the 2011 camaro isn't out yet.

GM's OHV's are brilliant and the LS3, LSA, LS7 & LS9 can compete with anything Europe can throw, as prooven in cars like the Z06, CTSV, ZR1.
Im not a Fan Boy. I used to own a 2004 F150 and hope to buy a Raptor one day that's one badass truck.

@jodah2003 A fully Loaded CTSV weighs in about 4200lbs dry. GM hasnt realeased any official confirmed info, except the fact that it will use an LSA. That's all they said about it.
Either way the CTSV weighing 4200lbs does 0-60 in 3.9 secs and has a quarter mile time of 12.2 secs (GT500 12.4 secs) Thank its briilant suspension system, LSD and amazing transmission. (auto accels better than the manual and is .1 secs quicker in the 1/4 which is substanstial in drag times.)

If i recall the mustang was originally marketed towards women, but it was such a success chevy had to have a slice of the pony car pie. It then spawned a car war which inevitably Ford won. Except now the war is on again, and if chevy and dodge want to move ahead they need to look into ohc technology, europe has been doing it for ages and kicking our asses at it. hey the v6 in the camaro is a dohc directed inject v6 making great power and fuel economy.

Why should they swith to OHC engines when they have OHV engines that can produce as much HP and way more torque.
I/E the LS7 an OHV engine is far lighter and easier to maintain than a OHC engine. Also when something breaks on a OHC engine it is far harder and more expensive to repair, not to mention the high revs they create doesnt help fuel consuption and engine longevity.
Find me one 500+ HP N/A OHC v8 that gets 27mpg highway and produces similar torque and is as relaible as say an LS7

FYI the C6 Z06 gets 27mpg highway?
It has a curb weight below 3200lbs and a drag coeficient of .31 now add that to the fact that the LS7 makes alot of torque at such low revs.
That is why the Z06 gets such good mileage.
As for the yenkos, look it up denial is such a patheic trait to have. The Yenko with the ZL1 v8 was the fastest muscle car of the 60's due to its lightweight and huge power.

until then there no proof that the 60's yenko was a 11 second car, ZL1 isn't a yenko and was made by gm's Vince Piggins for the NHRA thats the only 11 second camaro.

Ya it does get 27mpg highway and 17 city. When you drive it without putting your foot down. That's what torque and light weight does for you.
FYI there are Yenko's with ZL1's Don Yenko's most famous creation was a light weight camaro that he dropped a Zl1 in. It was so fast Chevy had to make the Vette faster because they didnt want the Camaro to beat it.

The ZL-1 was made available only for 1969 under COPO 9560 and Chevrolet needed to install 50 copies to qualify the ZL1 Camaro for racing. Chevrolet eventually built 69 Camaros and 2 Corvettes with the ZL1 engine. With factory exhausts and tires, ZL1 Camaros could turn low 13s, with headers and slicks, they could turn 11.6s @ 122mph.

But only one car was built. this G.T.500 had a lightweight 427, tuned to 520hp, Carroll Shelby hit speeds over 170 miles per hour in this beast, at the Goodyear track in Texas where he was testing some tires with the car.

The Shelby you are talking about was way heavier than the ZL1 Yenko and also note that the was putting down 480hp until GM said no more b/c it was getting faster than the Vette.

@Greendude33 i din't lie shelby said it himself, and there no specs on how much gt500 ss weighed, only what engine it had and how much hp. theirs a few articles on the car and interviews with shelby. i like pontiac more than ford, but i don't go to every ford video and say they suck. GM makes good engine but they are not perfect, one example was their 302, it was not a bad engine but ford 302 was better. Probbly the most wanted chevy car made 1969 camaro Z28 DZ302

Sorry but there is no way it could have done 170 with that heavy un-aerodynamic body. The Vettes were starting to do those speeds but look at their weight and body shape.
Chevy's 350, 427,454,502 are all legendary and are all superior to the Ford versions

@Greendude33 sorry i misinterpret what he said, he said he could of done. the 428 cobra jet,302,427,351, 281hi-po,429 are legendary their just different engines. ill put it this way GM makes good big displacement engines and Ford makes good small displacement engines. at the moment every production ford v8 is on par with gm's v8's 5.0L vs 6.2, 5.4L s/c vs LSA, 6.2L boss vs 6.2L. ill bet you haven't even seen ford's crate engines

The Camaro was only designed in the first place to show up the Mustang and it did. They always made sure their camaro's were faster otherwise they wouldnt make them.
Mustang<Camaro<Mustang GT<Camaro SS/Z28< Shelby GT500kr<Yenko Camaro ZL1 427.
That was exactly how it happend in the 60's the Camaro always had a faster answer for any mustang available.
Look up the times the Yenko did low 11's in the 1/4 in the 60's for crying out loud.

An Camaro SS has a independent rear suspension, limited slip diff, and brembo brakes. where as the GT500 has a live rear axle with leafspring suspension and iron factory brakes from the Stang GT. But yet it costs more?
Put a similar SC on the LS3 with similar psi and it will blow a Gt500 to hell, and still be cheaper.

One uses Pushrod the other uses Live axel. Yet the funny thing is Mustang still out handles an IRS Camaro SS. hahahaha
That is the lame part for GM.
GM had 8 years and IRS to try and beat Ford in performance and they came out with a G8 chassis (Fatty) with a Corvette engine and two less doors. hahahaha

Why would GM want to use more expensive heavier OHC engines when they have damn good OHV engines.
Sure you need more displacement with an OHV but with OHC's you need more valves, higher revs a timing belt which breaks alot on OHC engines.

Plus Classic yenko's are worth far more than classic shelby's. Shelby's are like assholes everyone has them but they're nothing to brag about. Yenko's are rare and worth a shit load of money.

Ford is using a new technological coating instead of cast iron sleeves. SAVE WEIGHT! You do know that the Ford GT's cast iron engine was and is capable of holding down 1500hp.

FYI the LS7 can hold down up to 1800BHP with no major adjustments to the block.
The GT500 weighs about 3900lbs dry more with a driver all they are doing is cutting 100lbs.
The Z28 will still be around 300lbs lighter than that. Not to mention it will have magnetic selective IRS and a LSD where as the shelby will have a live rear axle and leafsprings haha.

When you search Ford GT horsepower you see a bunch of 1000+ hp Ford GTs. Please. That LS7 will crack way before even gets close to the Ford GTs high horsepower area. Ford sucks without forced induction, their pathetic 5.4 liter produces 320 hp without that SC thats only 16 more than Chevy's V6.
Also the Vette is one on the winningest GT1 cars of all time with many championships under its belt. It competes with Ferrari's and Porsche's etc and you think a 60's tech car can compete with it?

OHV engines are far lighter and more relaible than a OHC engine. They are easier to maintain and last longer, and produce a shit load more torque.
And the Weak side to OHC engines is that they have high revs which means faster wear and more fuel consumption.
The Z06 does 27mpg highway find me a comprable DOHC v8 with 500hp that can do that. Also find me a NA DOHC v8 that will have anything close to the ls7's torque.

The 9psi of boost it GT500 has is a very mild amount. Should be a gain of 90hp-110hp at the most. GM will never acheive hp numbers with or the same liters as Ford. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Haha Chevy has always thumped Ford in engine making look up the ZL1 and Z88 engines they were making well over 450HP back in the 60's.
As far as liter to liter Ford loses as
well.ford's 6.2 for their Raptor (cool truck BTW) only makes 400hp where as the 6.2 liter ls3 makes 430hp. They just detuned it slightly so the SS wouldnt have the same HP as a base vette.
Why would Ford or anyone go over that PSI amount by much the more you go up the more reliability and safety goes down.

Show me one BONE STOCK GT500 that has a better 1/4 time than a CTSV or a better 0-60 time. Oh ya and the CTSV can corner.

The CTS-V is a fast car but you will never have the power to weight ratio of the GT500.

They are a 3rd party that doesnt favor one over the other.
MT does real world tests which means that yes the performance stats vary b/c its near impossoible to run perfect 1/4 miles time and time again some will be slower than others.
But the fastest Bone stock GT500 from any source is 12.4 secs.
The reason I mentioned the CTSV is exactly b/c its heavy but its superior engine and technology makes it faster.

you are talking about a 4200lbs car vs a 3900lbs car. Those extra 16 hp does not cancel out the 300 lbs disadvantage.
MM & FF does 11.9s on stock tires. mid 11s on Drag Radials. That is what a 300lbs lighter car would do with just about the same hp of the CTS-V.

With this out. There is no pony war. GT500 has no competition. The engine on this ride can handle as much hp as the Ford GT aluminum engine with cast iron sleeves can. Except this one has a new technological coating in the cylinder walls that act like cast iron sleeves but reduce weight and does not create as much friction as cast iron sleeves. GO FORD!

The 4300lb CTSV is faster than it on the strip and on the track.
The GT500 does have a pretty good engine but it would only produce about 320hp without the forced induction Ford's saving grace.
But it doesnt really matter how much HP its putting down becasue its chassis and suspension cant handle it.
Oh ya its as aerodynamic as a school bus.
