I agree with markgerrardmusic, no contest at all. Steve Perry is the king. i saw Journey with SP in 1978 and 1986, saw them again in ~2004 with Augeri and was not impressed. i can't even remember the year i saw them with Augeri as it did not leave a lasting impression with me. Enough said!
No contest - Perry wins hands down & by a country mile...Augeri hits the notes ok but Perry sells the song...irresistably & there is a universe of difference...

What you say is true; other bands have replaced their lead singers. BUT.... even Journey believes that Steve Perry was end-all singer because everyone they have had since Steve is just an attempt to replicate Steve. It is not a biased response but a fact. And the first singer for Journey was great with the band that he began after Journey (Karma).

He wanted to take the time to decide on what to do that would be best for his health, mobility and asked the band to postpone touring until he could have it done and recover. They instead thought it best to get another singer and tour quickly to take advantage of thei then-current album and popularity. Not saying one side is right or wrong, but those are the facts of what happened.
You guys are ....ruthless! But point well taken. Saw "them" last night in San Antonio 9/22/2011 and I can't say it was bad just not Journey. Steve Perry brought the velvet voice and the success to the band. I must say that the band was awesome. Johnathan Case, Neal Sean and the rest of the replacements were enjoyed. Love you Mr. Perry and always will!
This is a fun mix but I just saw Journey in concert last night with Pineda and it was the worst show I ever saw. They should really retire. No Perry its over.

Journey tried to hard to over shadow singer and you couldn't even hear him, much less make out the words. Band many times on instrumental out of sync and audience had to help with lyrics... If they come your way without other bands don't waste your money.

Perry is so clearly better.....more soulful and rockin! His voice is so full and on point. No one can take his place. Others can try - but Perry f*7^in rocks. And he wrote most of the music.....
I think people also get confused what really makes a musician. Even if someone's voice could duplicate Steve's, half of being a musician is writing the songs. That's one area others could not duplicate here. Jonathan and Steve were a great writing pair.

It is a shame...that young kids don't get to see Steve Perry. I went threw hell growing up in a dysfunctional family. Steve Perry's music got me through that period of my life. Kids feel cheated....as I was with the Beatles.....
@lin88jon stever augeri, was too much of a steve perry sore butt, he was butt sore and made it known over every concert made with journey, stole his own identity, but i think arnel holds his own like a lounge band great, other than that there is no real journey without Steve and they all know it.
@Babillonia He still writes music and lent did background voices in collaborations with other artists. A brand new start with David Pack in 2005 and I can see it in your eyes with Guff in 2007. He also lent his voice with Jeff Goulb on a song called Can't let you go in 2003. In 2000 with he sang background with Tommy Tokioka on the songs I wish you were mine and An angel above me. I have some of these posted
in '83 the band decided to take a break, so he & a couple other members decided to persue solo careers. the band reunited a few years later and recorded more albums. Then, while on a hiking trip, steve injured his hip and refused to have surgery, so he couldn't preform or go on tour. The rest of the band then decided to kick him out. They replaced him with steve augeri, and later, he had throat problems and couldn't sing anymore. Then, they replaced him with arnel pineda.

I think people also get confused what really makes a musician. Even if someone's voice could duplicate Steve's, half of being a musician is writing the songs. That's one area others could not duplicate here. Jonathan and Steve were a great writing pair.

He also lent his voice with Jeff Goulb on a song called Can't let you go in 2003. In 2000 with he sang background with Tommy Tokioka on the songs I wish you were mine and An angel above me. in '83 the band decided to take a break, so he & a couple other members decided to persue solo careers. the band reunited a few years later and recorded more albums. Then, while on a hiking trip, steve injured his hip and refused to have surgery, so he couldn't preform or go on tour. The rest of the band then decided to kick him out. They replaced him with steve augeri, and later, he had throat problems and couldn't sing anymore. Then, they replaced him with arnel pineda.
