@babygirl15,@helenita05! You can find the chocolate melter at michaels, it works fabulous, you don't have to worry about to burn your chocolate! Good luck
@xXDucky94 I wouldn't recommend it. It might work, but I am afraid that even on low, the chocolate would seize up. Use your own judgement and let us know if this works for you.
Yes, I can see where you "pre-dipped" the lolli-pop (sticks) into the melted chocolate and allowed it to "set" prior to dipping the entire cookie/cake pop into the rest of the chocolate. I wonder "WHY" the other viewer (hairnetfetish) didn't SEE your tray of PRE-DIPPED Pops off to the side...I can plainly see where the chocolate coating is "set" around the pop (sticks)! It's definitely in view of your camera! ;-D Oh well...she'll "catch it" the next time she views. LOL
@doryfish22 It is a Wilton brand chocolate melter, which I have seen for sale at Walmart by the candy making and cake decorating supplies (mine was a gift). You need something that heats at a VERY low level to keep from over heating the chocolate.
Oops sorry for the flag thing this iPhone is going crazy! Anyways i have a ? I'm thinking of making cake pops but maybe add some time of liquor so my ? Is have you tried it like that or has anyone done that I'm just confused if I put the liquor in the mixer well it affect the cake mix if you could help me please!
@Giggl3z38 I wouldn't add liquor to the cake crumbs because that would make them too wet, but you can try baking liquor into the cake by substituting part of the water for liquor. I like adding kahlua to my chocolate cake and rum in my yellow cake but haven't done it in a while. You don't need a ton-like 1/4-1/2 cup max, and use water for the rest.
I just watched 'Thanksgiving Live' on Food Network Channel and one of the chef's was making cake pops. She dipped the stick into the chocolate coating before pushing them into the cake pop, using the coating as a 'glue' to help it stay inside the ball. I'm trying this tomorrow when we make Oreo balls.
@hairnetfetish Yes, that is included in my tutorial but my video is only for dipping the pops after this step. I didn't realize it would be viewed by so many people when I made it or I would have made a more complete tutorial video.
@umpadonk1 You froze them after putting the sticks in and they still fell off? I don't recommend freezing before dipping b/c that can cause the chocolate to crack, but if they fell off while frozen, it sounds like you had way too much frosting mixed in with the cake. I use about 1/3 cup of frosting and that is plenty.
I personally dont like this candy melter because it doesnt allow the candy to last. the coat is thick making it harder to work with. Double boiler pops work perfect and you can adjust the heat on the stove.
@lunitaa123 Is it the chocolate that has lumps in it or are your pops bumpy because the cake balls underneath are bumpy? If the former, it sounds like your chocolate is either over or under-heated. If overheated, it will become quite thick, but you can think it back out with some vegetable oil (just add a little at a time). If it's underheated, there will be chunks in it, which would cause bumpiness. If your pops are bumpy before dipping, spend more time rolling them in your palms b4 dipping
@720abigail It's called a "chocolate melter" but I believe it's the exact same thing! I bet a fondue pot would work very nicely, as long as it doesn't get too hot. The chocolate melter works at very low temperature to keep the chocolate from overheating.
If i try this, the pop fall down in the chocolate! So i first put the back of the stick in the melted chocolate and then put it in the pop. But then it also falls down!
@DJsnoep It sounds like you used too much frosting in your cake ball mixture. Just add enough that the crumbs stick together. Start with 1/3 cup and add more from there. Also, it helps if they are cold. I've noticed that if I leave them out of the fridge while I'm dipping, by the time I get to the end they are starting to slip off the stick a bit because they've had time to come to room temperature.
how did you get your chocolate so smooth and im not using the correct pop stick does that make a difference? every time i put the stick in there the chocolate gets hard but once i dip the chocolate it starts to slip i mean em i doing something wrong? help me!
@Giggl3z38 I just used chocolate bark candy coating and made sure to very gently heat it. It can get thick if you overheat it. If it gets too thick, add some oil to thin it back out. It sounds like you might have added too much frosting to your cake mixture if the balls are slipping off the stick. I only add like 1/3 to 1/2 cup of frosting for an entire crumbled cake--you just need enough so the crumbs hold together and depending on the cake, you might not need any frosting at all.
@Juicilyjuicy I can't say for sure but I think that might cover about 25 of them. I'd buy two to make sure I had enough for a whole batch, which usually is around 45.
How did you get your chocolate so smooth??! I have tgat same melter and for some reason the chocolate never gets so smooth/thin. The consistency is always really thick :-(
@sharee702 I don't like using the melter to actually melt the chocolate. I melt it very gently in the microwave and then pour it into the melter and set it on "warm" so that I don't have to continue microwaving it when it gets too cool. If your chocolate gets too thick, it's because you overheated it. To fix this, stir in a little oil until the right consistency. And try to heat it in intervals, stirring in between, so that it doesn't seize up. I think the amount I melted was 1 1/2 lbs.
Hi, you suggested to keep the cake balls cold in order for it to stay on the stick better so should I keep the balls in the fridge for a little while before putting them on the sticks? And if so how long? I was also worried that if I did decide to put them in the fridge before making it, they would crack afterwards...
@meesterzebra After you have all the sticks in, you might just leave ten pops out at a time to dip and put the rest of them in the fridge, then refill your plate when you run out. I usually leave them all out and by the end, they are slipping off the sticks b/c they've gotten to warm. They should not crack unless they are kept in the freezer.
@Mairaylupe Did you put them in the freezer prior to dipping? The only ones that ever cracked on me were those I froze first. I recommend refrigerating them overnight, not freezing.
@lovelysister No, you do not have to but I would if you aren't going to serve them within a few days. If they will be eaten in a few days, just leave them out.
@ktlish9744 Yes, and also to remove the excess chocolate. If you just dip them and then put them in the foam board, the extra chocolate will drip off which makes the stick messy and the ball on top won't look as pretty.
sometimes my pop stick comes out L(
Baagock333 3 weeks ago
thats actually the worst way to dip the cake pops. when i did it like that the cake part would always break off the stick.
the best way to dip them is to shake the chocolate off by hitting your hand instead of hitting the stick.
taitk808 3 weeks ago
Judging by the size of your arms.. you need to lay off the cake pops D:
