To say that the 747 is a lesser plane than an Airbus is a load of flak to me. They may not be as big but they get the job done. I respect the Airbus however so don't say I'm just a Boeing fanboy. Airbus still has a good record and I do trust their planes.

Yes. AA operated 747 100 from 1970 to 1984. AA traded their 747s for Pan Am DC10s in 1984. In the movies Airport 75 and 77, the planes used for those movie was AA 747s. Also Nasa used an AA 747 to carry the Spane Shuttle.

AA used 747 sp for their DFW-NRT route from the mid 80's until the early 90's. They was replaced by MD11s on the routes, and was put on the JFK-LHR route until their retirement in 1992.

5/5,but I read one thing in your info:A380 is better.I disagree.The A380 has just gone into service,so the'll have to prove what the 747 has been doing for 40 years:fly millions of miles,while maintaining an excellent record.Did you realize that in all of the cases when 747s have crashed,the aircraft wasn't to blame?Well TWA 800,maybe,but there is still a lot of speculation to what took that one down...

@dutchy1176 i believe it was the ac units that heated the fuel over flashpoint also one of the fuel prob wires came in contaact with a high voltage wire ans arc'd and the arisolized fuel ignited that's what i heard from the ntsb report
