@Raptanax You may be in luck,I recommend Blue Planet. I'm also working on my own Freespace 2 project, much more tools available than I had in the past. ;) Looking forwrad to show it in the future.
@omsigbug Check my channel page for that information -- In terms of platform and processor it's not even the newest generation in hardware.
It's all about optimisation -without- losing representation as well as making the best out of the tools you have.
Also, 300 ships is the current engine limit. Used to be 99, so its already much better than before. Come to think of it, i really should make use of that one time just to add individual set-pieces that I couldn't do before.
Woah looks to me like the most awesome space sim ever! it's actually quite funny, if there would be ever a space battle in real life, you wouldn't hear anything. Here you hear nothing but lasers and explosions :P
1) how does this game work? i've done research but i still dont understand. is it mission by mission or you can do whatever you want instead of doing mission?
2) would this game work on a Windows XP Media Center Edition (2002) with ATI Radeon x200 AMD 64 ATHLON proccesor and 1 gig of ram
I'm currently trying to fix some issues i'm having with the main PC I use for modding and FS2 missions. I've been building a lot of missions though, trying out new ideas, and/or variations. I'm really hoping to make a compilation out of that in the nearby future to upload to HLP and other places.
However it's never a good idea to set deadlines when you're not absolutely sure you can reasonable make it ;).
Thanks for your comment; which goes for everyone. Glad to see people liking it.
I would love them to make a third one of these, with the x series graphic engine (x3 terran conflict) my god, I would jizz in my pants if they made another
Damnit man, you should release a copy of this, even in its current state. Missions like these are few and far between, and most are littered with garbage custom music tracks and convoluted objective structures... But this just looks ace.
Not teasing on purpose here; Just hoping to find more time to improve it before releasing it as it is. I'm glad to hear you're also interested, and i'm taking questions serious. ^^ Just remember it's extremely tough on PCs in the current state; i've been thinking on how to make it less intensive for PCs without losing the impact it gives.
I'm not really the type that enjoys sending in one ship at a time, sometimes conveniently after the destruction of another. ;)
I know that, but I want to bet that you didn't update the particle effects ie. explosions, lasers and other visual effects, I know because I still play this game without any mods...
So you didn't, because it wasn't needed, Volition was one great game developer, the visuals in Freesapce 2 were way ahead of their time.
Just compare this video to something like the space battles in Star Trek Online for example, a game that will be released this year...terrible visual effects in that game.
My suggestion would be to throw in more enemy fighters. Since the player is flying a fighter they need other fighters to fly against because they are basically useless against capital ships.
I have to say, this is so god damn awsome. Man its been awhile since I've played Freespace. Ever since my desktop computer broke down, I've been havin laptops. Don't really know if laptops work well with Freespace games but oh well.
I was never good at creating missions on Fred. I want to but never had time to learn so many of the controls to even make a mission. I'm guessing theres an update on Fred because the graphics are badass and theres new ships.
Thanks for your comments! ^^ I really appreciate them.
Yes, the Source Code Project is fully free, and downloadable from Hard-light(dot)net, or FSOInstaller(dot)com. Just make sure to have a good version of Freespace 2. You can get that one from GoG(dot)com.
(I hate having to avoid the censor, but else i'm never able to link this normally xD).
I have a question did you give those capital ships waypoints? It looks like they are kind of close to each other, using the ships AI only. Just a thought, because I think it would be wise to script their behaviour more (5.50 to 5.55 you can see it clearly; big ships stacking to each other, which looks kind of weird).
Yeah, I understand how you feel. I'm still trying to figure out what would be better; Just totally go crazy in sheer size and scope, or to try to make it smaller/more spread out so more PCs can actually handle it all. ;)
Mostly I'm gathering all kind of ideas for more missions, and to see how to tie them into the storyline fully. That takes a lot of planning and work though.
Whats the storyline you have so far? And where is it going? I'm just curious because I love this game and wish they'd done more with it- so much potential for story!
Amazing looking battle, but it looks like it'll require alot of computing power to run it with lagging. Also, the vasudan destroyer in the front looks like it's taking more damage than it should be able to handle. Or it could just be some perspective issues.
I boosted up most of the ships' hitpoints up; it takes a lot of testing to see what amount of extra hitpoints will still supply a good battle.
I'm also very strongly looking into making this mission much much lighter on system reqs, while keeping the original design, and also the existing one I have.
So far I have been tweaking the settings and the battle a lot, and experimented with several different things as well. I'm hoping to work much more on this to make it release-worthy.
Been working on balancing a lot, hoping that the system requirements will lower a lot as a result. Slowly working towards making it better and better and better, but very time-consuming. Also takes a lot of time to brainstorm new ideas.
Actually, it's BP dependant at the moment, which has MediaVPS into it as well. As you can see the ships do have the details and models of the SCP ;).
I used BP due to the ability to use more diverse ships. I had too much trouble trying to import all the assets into a 'myownmod' kind of map, so I took the easy road.
Ahhh, crap. This sure does bring back old memories. Time to look for my ancient install :D

Wait, didn't Vasuda Prime get destroyed like 35 years before FS2 by the Ravana fleet? How come its still burning red hot?
maneesh77 5 months ago
@maneesh77 it's not just a forest, but an ENTIRE planet wich is burning, i think it could take centuries to stop burning
kaze66613 4 months ago
@maneesh77 There are coal and gas fires that were accidentally set decades ago that are still burning beneath the ground today.

This isn't supposed to be the Battle of Endor featured in Star Wars.
It's called like that because it's got a boatload of ships fighting at the same time.

Er, yes we did. All those effects (explosions, lasers) have all been updated.
I'm not saying the original didn't have great graphics, but it's nowhere near as good as FSOpen today.

Side-effect from adding HP to player ship to survive a few beams, just in case. ;) Also part of experimenting.
