Delbert is among the best R&B singers alive today, and he can handle other styles just as well - including country and other roots styles. This is a very nicely done version of a song I first heard done by the great Joe Simon. Nice work by Roy, too.
Joe Simons version was bigger in Detroit that the others. I was in the Army so it had to be around 1967. I like them both but Joes voice suits my taste on this one. But Delberts' version of Change My Mind hits me harded than Tyrone Davis's version, with me it's all good. I'm a big Delbert Fan, saw him at Frankies Patio in Tampa in 1996 with another Southwestern guy from Lew-z-anna, Anders Osborne and this guy was Deadly, he slung on an old Silvertone and played that ole Ax into a Coma....
Is it just me, or are those not the most soulful two rhythm tracks you've ever heard - together? Not to mention one of my favorite guitar solos ever. Damn, this is a great tune.
Great song! But I have to correct you there trakbob -Waylon Jennings recorded this song at least two years earlier! He has also the best version of it, and it was a decent 'almost' hit song for Waylon. Harlan has also rec. this song. Hoss ;-)
@ztup1969 Well mister dickhead! You sure are one big ass idiot with no decency! I'll be sure to report your comment here and get you buttkicked out of youtube -I do like both versions, but favor one -but I don't like shitheads like you having no respect! Best regards, Hoss Curtis
Great stuff...the version I have is from an Alligator Records compilation. I've played that album to death. Nice to hear a good clean version. I also have some tunes you may enjoy...I invite you to peruse my channel.

Good version - although for mine the best is by Lawrence Reynolds (on the 'Jesus is a Soul Man' album), followed closely by ZZ Hill

version does not make a hit
Delbert can hum and make it a hit
there are plenty of old blues tunes that sucked , but were rebuffed and tweeked to make amhit and finally some money for all involved
