  • VALENTA

    VALENTA

    VALENTA

    V A L E N T A TA TA TA TA

and so the famous song goes.

  • Keep taking the pills...

  • I often used to wonder when visiting Reading at intervals 5-15 years ago whether the platform staff would suffer any type of permanent hearing damage, with HSTs departing every 5 minutes or so. I still don't know... :)

  • BEAST!

  • I miss both of those sounds

  • You'll have to take a trip on Grand Central.

  • not for much longer, theyre being mtued

  • No contracts for MTU fitment have been signed yet, so whilst it's true they will probably be MTU'd we still have time.

How much time is what's on all of our minds right now though. And don't forget, there's two 180 diagrams going it seems at the moment, thanks to 43065 failing last Sunday :(

  • i have any when in the tunnel you can always hear the valenta screaming and i was in the front carriage as well.

  • What a great soundbattle! 5*

  • it should of been class 43 scares lady ; lovly sound

  • @0:43 it certinaly scared that woman. thats marston, napier and valenta thrash for you :-D

  • Now that is one hell of an engine there! :) Bizzarely enough, after I started using Windows Movie Maker and definitely since February, my laptop processor sometimes sounds a bit like that power car when publishing a movie on Windows Movie Maker!

  • my laptops cooler fans sound like marstons

  • that is brilliant

  • Is it me or did the PIS say 1422 on the clock?!

  • It was late, but not that late: 14.02

  • How long have the Marston fans been around? I don't remember hearing any of that howling until 4 or 5 years ago. Before then I think the turbocharger squeal was undisturbed.

  • Excellent video. Oh how I miss these now on the XC services at Coventry to/from the South Coast.

  • I'm from west sussex originally, and in summer

'88 intercity reintroduced the "sussex scot"

brighton to edinburgh service, which until

late 2001 was worked my a 47 with Mk. 2's

    Unfortunately voyagers displaced the "duffs"

I used to travel on this service from brighton to manchester, which is about six hours (when visiting the south on my hols)

  • 6 hours on a Voyager! Yuk!

  • Believe me since virgin cross cross country

displaced the 47 hauled trains on this service I stopped travelling on this route.

I know tend to go out and back via the midland mainline, to travel on an hst!.

I also believe the service from brighton has now been withdrawn, and only operates from reading

  • The only hsts now with valenta units are the grand central ones, which are good if you can get to york when they are departing with a northbound working towards sunderland.

  • Actually, 43053, 43056, 43110 are still running on NXEC, EMT have 43064, and the Network Rail New Measurement Train has 43013, 43014, and 43062, but apart from that, it's looking (or sounding) pretty grim out there!

  • Latest update:

    GC = 6,

NMT = 3 (not in public sevice though),

    EMT = none, due to gain 089 (046 = VP185),

NXEC = 4 left; not /booked/ to run again but could well do

  • Not quite. EMT still have 43064.

As for NXEC, there are none left. 43056's last run was on Wednesday 3rd December 2008, and this brought the end of NXEC Valentas. 43051, 43053, and 43110 are all unfit for passenger service and are bound for Brush works.

  • Not quite. EMT's 064 is VP185'ved now isn't she?

As for NXEC, 053/6 /could/ run again, it's just unlikely...051+110 are at NL ready to transfer to Brush tomorrow (5th Dec.)

  • No, 064 is still very much a Valenta, although not for much longer.

053/056 will not run again for NXEC.

  • 43064 has gone for a VP185

  • Yep, but on the plus side, you've now got 43089 running for EMT.

  • yeah, it's a shame that the valentas have almost disappeared, although I can get to york by train in less than an hour, so I can

    see/hear the grand central sets.

  • I've yet to find a better sounding train than this. Paxman Valenta engines, you will be missed.

  • 002's Marston is going absolutely mental in this! I never heard it go quite like THAT!

Favouriting it ready for mass repeated viewing (now watching it a third time as I finished this sentence, fourth time coming up - it's better than most of the music out there!), subscribed to the author's videos too.

Thank you for capturing this event mostlyrailways.

  • simply amazing

  • nice vid - darnt turn it up to loud tho - also just noticed - your either in the TGS or your set has become lost in 'the bristol triangle' and is running the wrongway round ;)

  • The set was indeed in "reverse formation", and all the better for it. You don't get that sound with a TGS in the way!

  • That is the loudest valenta I have ever heard I am deaf now great video.

  • Sorry? Couldn't hear that!

  • Wow! That's the loudest Marston fan I've heard

  • I love it when those beasts leave Reading. Does anyone know how long the Valenta has left in HSTs?

  • Not very long now...Grand Central are the only TOC with a full Valenta fleet (6), plus there are a handful with National Express East Coast (ex-GNER), East Midlands have a few, and so do Cross Country, and Network Rail still have them in their New Measurement Train (Flying Banana) but everything else is fast becoming MTU or VP185. The entire FGW fleet is MTU now.

Soon the only Valentas left will be those in the hands of the 125 Group preservationists...join them!

  • Aren't XC going to MTU the HST power cars they will use?

  • Yep

  • Yeah, tell me about it. I used to enjoy watching the FGW valentas rip past at Ealing Broadway screaming but now alas, nothing but a low toned rumble can be heard from the FGW HSTs.

  • When I last visited Ealing Broadway on the Central Line, I always hear that Valenta thrash! :)

  • i used to hear them all the time but i didnt rediscover my love for trains till it was too late. also did you know that they were considering keeping the valentas until IEP arrived but cost of maintenance and the government stopped that. you could easily get another 10 years out of them. infact you could bet on it, it was british made after all!

  • Wow! Loverly jubbly! Superb sound from a superb engine :) Excellently caught mate!

  • WOW!

  • That says it! :D

  • BEASTAGE!

    Again! :D

  • i will tell u who wins

It is called the Valenta power car lol

  • IM DEAF NOW!!! 10/10

  • Nice. :)
