  • for backstroke you put "The arm not in the water should be pulling water" face-palm. breastroke: arms and legs go seperately. When i teach little kids how to swim i teach them the rhythm pull-breathe-kick-glide not pull/kick-breathe-glide. freestyle- 45 degree angle is to much of an angle for the head, the neck should be bent like 3 degrees up

  • for backstroke you put "The arm not in the water should be pulling water" face-palm

  • ok if someone learning to swim watched this video they would drown sorry :/ music gave me a headache

  • the only good part was the history...

  • music really sucks omg

  • crap utter crap

  • the power in freestyle stroke comes from your core, not kicking harder and pulling the water harder. You'll just end up knackering yourself quickly. IMO. I agree the video could be misleading to the beginner.

  • pink shrift not readable...

  • Actually freestyle is front call its just a different name for it.

nice tips. For future reference though try to make your writing visible with your background

  • Freestyle is not a stroke. It's front crawl. Freestyle means that you can choose whatever stroke you want. All swimmers choose front crawl today in freestyle, though.

  • Then why is it not called front crawl at the olympics or World Championships?

  • Because you don't have to do front crawl, you can do any stroke whatsoever. Theoretically, if you were fastest at the fly you could win the olympic freestyle gold using butterfly if you beat everyone else! Freestyle just means there are NO STIPULATIONS as to stroke etiquette like there are for the other recognized strokes, i.e one breath per stroke in breast.

  • @Minkymoo222 <-- This guy is right, but it is also important to explain that in competative events, you have to stick with one stroke the entire time. So you couldn't perform a 100 medly for a freestyle event. But you could do the entire length butterfly, or the entire thing breast. The reason behind this, is because each stroke has a set of core muscles that is flexes the most, and has the most resistance, so if someone keeps switching strokes, they can spread out which muscles are tired

  • this music isn't the best choice for a swimming video tutorial... i couldn´t finish it... but thanks anyway

  • shit video

  • wow the song is great :))))

  • just look for jimmydshea swimming videos or just watch the videos of michael phelps

  • not the best video you should look at..

  • hard to read the text . . . too small, not on long enough, and blurry

  • Ya this video doesnt give the best advice for experienced swimmers, but for people who dont know alot about swimming i guess it does, but u should definenitly rotate on backstroke

  • Hmmm.. a lot of wrong advice. And freestyle is NOT front crawl. It is as the word implies "freestyle".

Meaning you can choose whatever technique (most choose crawl).

Learn the basics. People might get bad swimming habits of a video like this.

    But good effort.

  • however it is commonly referred to as freestyle with competitive swimmers since it is the only stroke ever used in freestyle.

    But good effort.

  • Was'nt that excatly what I wrote...?? In freestyle you can choose whatever style you fell like, but crawl is chosen as it is the fastest.

  • nice video !!!

  • man you said alot of things in that video that are definitely bad advice. Study up some more before you create a misleading video like this.

  • awesome song. i listen to this all the time before races.

  • This is the only emo song I have heard that didn't try to give me a vagina. Cool song.

  • not sure about the head at 45 degrees in freestyle. Can you do it? Your cervicals must be a mess. I'd advise the head in a neutral position looking forward about 4 or 5 feet in front of you.

  • I was taught the head should be looking straight down (so neutral position in good posture) because any excess tilting of the head will lower your legs and cause drag resistance.

  • I think you can keep the head in a neutral position, as you say, and still be able to look 4 or 5 feet in front of you(the eyes move too) and thus avoid a nasty collision with the wall.

  • firs swimming event was made in Japan

  • Loved it.

  • Yup, that music blows the rotting flesh of motor oil covered dolphins on a sewage covered beach. But, thanks for the tips Dude!

  • But remember... Dont breathe a lot, It will slow you down.

  • Your legs should NOT be coming up to your chest in breaststroke. I don't know where people get this idea. You want your knees to move forward as little as possible, since they act like giant brakes in the water. If you watch Kitajima and Hansen, their feet go up to their butt, and their legs come forward only a little bit. This is why people do drills where they lay on their backs and kick without breaking the surface with their knees.

  • gary hall smokes pot hahaha

  • Dude! Very Well Done!!!

  • thanks for the tips

  • holy fk 0:45. Imagin having to watch a 4,000 meter swim. Also that would have been in like 1900 when people wern't that good. THe winner would probably be the person who has able to finish.

  • whew! tough crowd out there.

  • good video but breathing evry four strokes is the best pace....and th faster you kick the more your arms will move but when you kick fast you need to breath more so either you kick fast and breth every 2nd stroke or kick medium and use ur arms and breth every 4th.good video though.

  • can somebody tell me the name of this song?

  • From the lyrics and with a great help from google...I can tell you it's

    Lostprophets - Burn Burn

  • Shoulda called the song "complete POS" (piece of shit).

  • useless

  • u looser

  • yea i know this is me, the guy who made it. i made it for my 9th grade project and well i was pretty limited with windows media player lol @_@ and im not an idiot i know this video sucks lol. However I do know the strokes well, i swim year round and my coach is all about technique - helped me get down to a 22.3 in my 50 free and will hopefully go 53 in my fly at ccs this may

Ya, this video is bad because of what i was limited too. if you really have any questions about swimming feel free to ask

  • appalling soundtrack

  • I'm an active swimmer and from my point of view this video is more deceptive than helping. I've studided and been taught about all the four kinds of swimming and watching your movie makes me think of when I did not know what I know today. In this video you make it sound so simple, too simple. It's not that practical and easy to swim proffesional as to just 'catch the water with your hand and pull towards your feet'. Really.

  • great vid

    thx

i needed it for my swim team of summer

    thank you

    gr8 job 5 stars

  • i don't know wot brings people to like that kind of music ,it put me off the video

  • choose your font colors carefuly

  • some of the words were fuzzy and hard to read, especially during breaststroke. even when I paused it so I could read everything.

  • LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! YOU ROCK!

  • Thanks! I used to get lap by old ladies in the YMCA's slow lane. Now I'll show them!

  • i don't like that kinda music. yeah i agree with the comments. the music is distracting. but it's great you made this video. i already know the strokes but it's good to noe that people spend their time making friendly videos online teaching people how to swim. it's a survival skill and im glad you made it. thanks. ;)

  • Hi, I didn't realy get the vdeio, unfortunately, I cannot swin ok, and how do I kick? I know how to move my arms and soforth, but what motion should me legs move in? I would grateful if you could help me here, thanks.

  • I am a new swimmer but I can swim pretty good now after 8 classes of 1 hour each.. Moving your legs depend upon the stroke. The most common is freestyle, and the training usually starts from that as well. They will initially train you to just swim using your legs and no arm movement.. You usually use a float to keep afloat the water or keep your arms very straight in water.. legs move up and down..

  • Part 2 of my comment..

feet straight but slightly bent, and your kicks should be smooth, deep, but powerful in a 1-2-1 motion.. I was so afraid of water and now I just love it.. I wish I can learn more too, I am going to join more classes.. all the best to you too :)

  • oh ok thank you, I learnt a few things snce I last commented, thanks.

  • lol just pause it where you want to read it lol you people are funny.

  • I know..lol!!!Isn't that cute those comments hihihi!!

  • the music distracts me from reading, you should consider changing that music.

  • thanks for the tips. they should definitely help with the upcoming triathlon

  • Yea if ur a speed reader
