  • To think that this was the Pop music of her time. This was on the radios. This was played at School Dances. Now, we have our music talking of Sex, and Glitter. Pop was so pure, so simple. I'm saddened I wasn't born then.

  • kplaya I like that joke~`

  • i loovvvvve this song!!!

  • I beat her to the punch but i mean she could've still drank the punch i didnt spit in it or anything jeez. stop making a big deal about it mary.

  • This is the best song to learn how to do The Cha-Cha.

  • Remembering Mary - a true Motown pioneer today: May 13, 1943 – July 26, 1992

  • Great lyrics by Smokey…great arrangements…drums and bongo beat just take me away! Sing it Mary!!! With the Temptation's doing background, just doesn't get any better! A song I could play all day long. The Tempts did a rendition on the "Temptations Sing Smokey" album, that makes me melt… drums had that passionate punch…oh yeah…so mellow…

  • @dggd I stand corrected. It was the Love Tones backing her up on this. However, the Tempts still did a version of the song that was hott! The Tempts were her backup on road shows, before they even had a hit, so I mistakenly thought this was them on the recorded version.

  • Mary Wells is still a hottie even after all this time,,, a great cruising song!! a good woman, a car, top down , a nice sunny day, good memories that will never happen again and talent!!! imagine that!! keep plugging!!

  • Now this is good stuff!!

  • Mary Wells Backed By The The Love-Tones aka The Melodeers,And The Funk Brothers On Instruments,No Wonder This Is A Killer Tune!!!!

  • @WatDaStreetsCreated Well I agree oldies like this one are forever but there is still great talent today too. Alicia Keys, Whitney's still got it, Joss Stone and others are superb too. Love Mary Wells. Can't find fault with any of her songs. When I first heard this song I fell in love with it. It's awesome!

  • God what memories this song brings back.!

  • @MimiZ914 Oh girl...the stories and memories from the Oldies of Motown..there was nothing like it and there never will be again..it wasn't just hip..it was the way it was!!!!

  • Nothing like the oldies !!

  • @frannylmb tha t is when music was the best

  • Ms. Mary Wells...the first and only Queen of Motown.

  • What a gem!

  • I'm pretty sure it was the Funk Brothers playing behind Mary, which was (I know now) one of the reasons I have always loved this song.

  • This is the stuff.... listen to the background singers............listen to the simple melody......listen to the simple music. The young punks of today........EAT YO DAMM HEART OUT.........this is how it is done son!!!!!!

  • I'M ONLY 37, BUT I REALLY APPRICIATE GOOD CLASSIC R&B MUSIC!!..TWO THUMBS ON THIS ONE....

  • I love it.

  • who's singing backround on this track

  • Im my opinion, Mary was Motown.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Diana Ross and her Supremes, But they couldn't touch this One woman army by the name of Mary Wells, she was great.

Listen to her voice, no struggling for air and sound , just crisp voice and lyrics.

Try listening to Diana. She sound as if she was short of breath. Just listen closely, the next time you hear a Diana record, mainly the Supreme era!

She'll take in a lot of air per note. But, hey! She pulled it off, Good for her!

  • I wanna give a shout out to my baby lil rae rae this song is for you girl

  • Mary Wells was one of my favorite singers in the 1960's. I went to The Copa in Key West in the the 1980's on New Years Eve and she was the headliner. What an absolutely gracious and beautiful woman. She brought me to tears. She sang live and you wouldn't have ever guessed she was so ill. Thank you Mary!!!! You are greatly missed!!!!!

  • absolute class

  • me and my man was playing cards faded and he dedicated this song to me and now i know what he meant.... under that marque at his job..... omg

  • Mary's beautiful voice....Funk Brothers in the background......classic!

  • Love this oldie!!!

  • I dug this song the minute I heard it playing on AM radio as a kid. She is really one of the authentic soul divas: too bad we don't have those any more, only overdressed, anorexic, over-promoted (and under-talented) robots. Sigh. I miss Motown, and all the authentic emotion that just flowed outta the speakers when I'd play those 45's...God bless Mary Wells...

  • woooohooo i like this song!

  • 15 years old and I listen to this music.... I LOVE IT!!!!

  • Oh Boy I love Mary Wells

  • OLDIES BUT GOODIES [=

  • The highest compliment someone paid me, is they said I looked like a young Mary Wells. I have always loved her. I was lucky enough to meet her one day when I was 7 years old. She married Ceicl Womack at my church, and during their rehersal I showed her and her friend to the ladies room. I will never forget that. Summer of 1966. RIP Ms Mary.

  • Mary Wells was always my favorite female Motown artist. Smokey was my fave male artist. This is a classic Smokey Robinson production. He always loved the latin grooves.

  • Good music I grew up with listening to in NYC with my MOM playing the music..thnxs for posting..smile.

  • @sports1267 I grew up in Birmingham, AL listening to MoTown hits and pulling for the Yankees. Southern white boy with soul!

  • One of my favourites from around '64. Mary Wells, Everly's, Brenton Wood, Little Anthony...LilChuko is 17? I'm almost 60 and we love the same music. How cool is that?! The moldie oldies stay alive throughout the ages!

  • Not :))... Love this !

  • love this song fron boulevard nights

  • Never mind Strap On, he's just a lowly chink posing as a American Army Ranger...^_^

  • Fantastic singer saw her in New Orleans in 60s she and Irma Thomas...GREAT post and thanks for sharing it!

  • Love you Mary, and miss you.

  • Thank You...!

  • Pure Class Track :))

  • I think this was another one that the Funk Brothers played as background!!

  • GREAT SONG LOVE IT...!!!!

  • this song is pretty good but, "what love has joned" is her mary's best

  • This is my favorite Mary Wells song of all, even though I like all of her songs. She has a voice that always sounded feminine. Very lovely indeed!

  • She looks a little like Gabrielle Union.

  • Love Oldies !!

  • Man this girl has a voice that is second to none. I remember this song when i was a kid in the sixties.

  • great yarmouth weekender 1989 /1990 mary wells sang this track ,if my memory serves my right either 2nd or third song ,brilliant , magic . stunning.

  • I have always loved Mary

  • ms wells sing very well on this song. its those funk bros who enhances the song. its a shame those guys did not get the true recognition and monies that they truly deserve !!!

  • i love oldies

  • Another huge favorite of mine. Where were you in '62?

  • I graduated from high school in '62. I belonged to the "Crazy Crew of '62". Music was a lot of fun. We danced and danced and danced. I imagine every generation says that about the style of music that was on the radio when they were in high school. We look back and say, "Yup, that was good music."

  • I LOVE this song--very nostalgic. The chorus is awesome. The music of this era takes me back to a time of such innocence...if only. Thanks for the post.

  • I taught my younger sisters and brothers to dance the Cha-Cha with this beloved little tune. To this day, I still swing and sway my fanny whenever I hear it on my CD player here at home. Love it!

  • This 1962 R&B track is one of my favorites from this Motown legend, so smooth, with one of the best studio bands ever accompanying her, The Funk Brothers, this is simply a 60's music classic!!

  • Thank you for posting this Classic Song! RR.

  • You're welcome :)

  • What a voice. What a sense of rhythm. This is stunning. Her best vocal ever. RIP Sweet Mary...

  • Not her biggest hit, but perhaps the one that lets her stretch her considerable talents.

  • Another great by a Great.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • LOvet this song!!!!

  • i gota admithedid he won my heart tho
