that also happened to my min pin but it went a little differently my dog chased , bite and tackled the cat down, the cat slapped my dog, my dog got more pissed the cat got scared and went on top of a tire , more fighting but i broke it up.
Lucky your dog did not lose an eye getting that close to a corned cat!! What cats lack in size they gain the sheer nasty claws thay got! i should know I own a 1.5 stone semi feral cat and I bare the scars lol
