  • Marcus Miller has an upright bass beside him!! I'll be honest, really honest - I've never heard Marcus on upright YET.

  • i like that no one will notice that marcus screwed it

man he enjoyed doing that and that what makes jazz , jazz :D

  • @pierre3900 heard the same thing too.

  • 2 Fagots passed by from here

  • best!!!!!!

  • Not nearly enough air from the saxophonist, come on man...

  • WTF!!!!

Marcus Miller screws the form completely listen 2:12

Very typical begginer mistake losing the last 4 bars of F-

    Hands down please

  • @bajerovaquero "Begginer"? Must not know who Marcus Miller is. And what makes it a "mistake"? Just because they were not the notes you were expecting to hear? That is the spirit of jazz.... no conformity.

  • @wanquarta Marcus is one of my favourite players Ive listened and transcribed lot of licks because I admire him, he is a genius bass player and composer.

Youre completely missing the point, the thing is not about note choices, but he get lost in the song.

And yes, is a begginer mistake.

Herbie is playing F dorian and after one second realises Marcus is out, you can see how Herbie stares at him, so he starts playing a bit outside...

Well... I guess Herbie didn expected listening this notes

  • How can these people with their ass on their chair look sooo serious and sooo sad ?

  • whoa i was diggin it... then that sax solo put me right to sleep... talk about disengaging...

  • Why are the tenor player's high notes so muted? If he can imitate Herbie's lines so well he should also be able to hit the altissimo notes .. . . and please . . . . don't try to tell me those were multiphonics . . . . LOL . . . .

  • @jddenham

    Two words: Mic placement.

    ...LOL...

  • 3:10 - double chromatic!

  • I lovvvve this version !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • No doubt Herbie likes fruit! Cantaloupe Island, Watermelon man...

  • 8:59 is the worst part of the song :(

  • unpretensious, sintillattingly dreamlike, pro action in my face.

  • every time I hear this version my feet start tapping incontrolably and my head start bobbing up and down. Such talent put toghether! this is probably the best version of this tune arround.

  • Smooth...these guys ooze professionalism

  • Vinnie Collaiuta at the drums and Marcus Miller at the electric bass..that perfect rhythm section of giants

  • 3:10 IS THE SHIT!!!

  • Simple the Best!!!!!!!!!

  • One guys thinks Justin Bieber is a better jazzman

  • I heard those guys played music sometimes...

  • el bajista es marcus miller??

  • @TheMartatin Yes! Great!

  • @TheMartatin Si, es Marcus Miller y se pierde en la forma en 2:12 me parece increible que nadie lo comenta...

  • esse baterista detona!

  • Musicalidade Pura @Reyphas in BRAZIL

  • can´t get enough of this guy (musically ;-)

  • Rip the audio from this clip at tubepull doht cohm.

  • the masters at work... excellent

  • word, kna i mean?

  • Er ist einfach göttlich.... :-))

  • thanx 4 posting...it is a standard for my generation

  • Damn. This is frickin' all star. Ya'll know anything with Marcus Miller and Vinnie C in it is automatically good. I also like how the tempo is slower in this song, makes everything more 'chill', if you get me.

  • Marcus Miller on Bass! Awesome stuff!

  • 7:59 aaaaaah that basslick! love it

  • Vinnie C is my favourite jazz drummer :) I love he's fills and "feeling" :)

  • 5:15 cool taht change

    awesome!!!!!

  • marcus miller probably the best bass player in the world ! :D

  • did they slow the song down for this big event and for making more commercial ?

  • @80aless this is the original version and tempo of Cantaloupe Island.

  • vinnie's so locked in

  • Love Sheppard on tenor!

    He s just fabulous

    Mario

  • ohhh! Some really exquisite voicings in Herbie´s comping; a great new view on that tune. Agree with ighip: solo is a bit uninspired, seems Herb´s just collecting ideas, but can´t really assemble to a well built solo. Well, that´s the risk of a creative musician. But even when Herbie´s average playing he´s still way beyond anyone else.

  • mad chops from vinnie. not blown away by the keys solo on this particular version...have heard better. but perhaps i am jsut not musically sophisticated enough to comprehend everything he is doing to apprecite it fully.

i love that guitar tone, would that be considered a wahwah tone? can somebody fill me in on how to describe that?

what i do love is the variety of vuilds that take place throughout solos. love vinnie's shots at the top of every head. that space is tasteful.

  • Well, Marcus Miller is not Dave Holland...

Bob Sheppard is not Chris Potter.

And Vinnie Colaiuta is not Brian Blade.

  • I tink vinnies overall volume should be lower, he is a great drummer and has geat fills (dont'get me wrong) but his drumming is all over the place. SO volume down (and I don't mean he should play softer, only I would mix it differently), same drummer and it would be perfect in my opinion. what do you guys think?

  • I think that some drummers could do this track better than vinnie - i don't agree with you though, the drumming is not too loud in my oppinion, vinnie is very good at adjusting his play and volume to the individual solo (: Great track overall

  • @ilikemusicverymuch that's called having dynamic control man

  • Volume sounds good to me! I do agree that vinnie has some mad chops.

  • I'm at 2:06 and I still haven't heard some random nut in the audience stand up and shout "VINNNIIIEEEEEE". Something's wrong.

  • 4.00-4.05 is a slice of brilliance as well!

  • 1:00 that a serious fill from Vinnie C!

  • @jaypianist26 Marcus was smiling at 1:02, after Vinnie's fill :D

  • @jaypianist26 and at 2:00...what an incredible thing by Herbie!!

  • He looks so content at those keys.

    Cool, cool man.

  • That's the problem...I'm not sure where it went. It had been up online for a while at Nissan's concert site, but it's down, as well as the one you have posted. Where'd you get this one?

  • Absolutely amazing...

Do you have the other videos from that set?

Marcus Miller had a video posted on his blog for a while that had a song (the name escapes me) where everybody soloed. Might've been chameleon?

I can't find it anywhere anymore...

Was one of the funkiest pieces of anything I'd ever heard

  • can u tell me how to find it?

  • Might have been spider. Its sick
