@bajerovaquero "Begginer"? Must not know who Marcus Miller is. And what makes it a "mistake"? Just because they were not the notes you were expecting to hear? That is the spirit of jazz.... no conformity.
@wanquarta Marcus is one of my favourite players Ive listened and transcribed lot of licks because I admire him, he is a genius bass player and composer.
Youre completely missing the point, the thing is not about note choices, but he get lost in the song.
And yes, is a begginer mistake.
Herbie is playing F dorian and after one second realises Marcus is out, you can see how Herbie stares at him, so he starts playing a bit outside...
Well... I guess Herbie didn expected listening this notes
Why are the tenor player's high notes so muted? If he can imitate Herbie's lines so well he should also be able to hit the altissimo notes .. . . and please . . . . don't try to tell me those were multiphonics . . . . LOL . . . .
every time I hear this tune my feet start tapping incontrolably and my head starts involuntarily bobbing up and down. Such talent put toghether!!! probably the best version of this tune arround...

Damn. This is frickin' all star. Ya'll know anything with Marcus Miller and Vinnie C in it is automatically good. I also like how the tempo is slower in this song, makes everything more 'chill', if you get me.
ohhh! Some really exquisite voicings in Herbie´s comping; a great new view on that tune. Agree with ighip: solo is a bit uninspired, seems Herb´s just collecting ideas, but can´t really assemble to a well built solo. Well, that´s the risk of a creative musician. But even when Herbie´s average playing he´s still way beyond anyone else.
mad chops from vinnie. not blown away by the keys solo on this particular version...have heard better. but perhaps i am jsut not musically sophisticated enough to comprehend everything he is doing to apprecite it fully.
i love that guitar tone, would that be considered a wahwah tone? can somebody fill me in on how to describe that?
what i do love is the variety of vuilds that take place throughout solos. love vinnie's shots at the top of every head. that space is tasteful.
I tink vinnies overall volume should be lower, he is a great drummer and has geat fills (dont'get me wrong) but his drumming is all over the place. SO volume down (and I don't mean he should play softer, only I would mix it differently), same drummer and it would be perfect in my opinion. what do you guys think?
I think that some drummers could do this track better than vinnie - i don't agree with you though, the drumming is not too loud in my oppinion, vinnie is very good at adjusting his play and volume to the individual solo (: Great track overall
That's the problem...I'm not sure where it went. It had been up online for a while at Nissan's concert site, but it's down, as well as the one you have posted. Where'd you get this one?

Well, Marcus Miller is not Dave Holland...
Bob Sheppard is not Chris Potter.
And Vinnie Colaiuta is not Brian Blade.

Do you have the other videos from that set?
Marcus Miller had a video posted on his blog for a while that had a song (the name escapes me) where everybody soloed. Might've been chameleon?
I can't find it anywhere anymore...
