  • people who's talking about his accent are idiots. it was just an attempt you retards, no need to over speculate about whether he did a poor job on talking like a japanese.

  • This is Chineise Accent.

  • @honnagotegirl No chinese speak english like this. We speak in another wierd way :P

  • This is not "a bad Japanese accent".

It's actually a normal Japanese accent.

  • English is such an odd language... Here is a joke I heard: If the 'gh' in 'laugh' has an 'f' sound, the 'o' in 'women' as a relaxed 'ih' sound, and the 'ti' in 'nation' has a 'sh' sound, then "ghoti" spells "fish"! Welcome to the English language.

  • This would be awesome if it went the other way round.

  • I like strong foreign accents.

  • Uncle Tomagachi

  • Thank fu, vary warm in Vagina.

  • YOU DISHONA YOUR WHORE FAMIRY!

  • I'm American, and I agree, 100%... our language is stupid.

  • iimupulesifu

  • IMPOSSIBRU!

  • Obvious that this one knows noting about te Japanese language and its accent at all

  • Not even close to Japanese accent.

  • I could tell from the beginning that his intonations weren't even remotely close to Japanese.

  • he has a strong American accent indeed haha

  • I am a motivational speaker and management consultant now. I use to be a professor. I've also dabbled in stand-up! LOL

  • @whatifnet the same credentials as noam chomsky

  • He is Korean? This is Korean accent.

  • doesnt sound like japanese accent... sounds like chinese or korean accent

  • where is rest of part?

  • this guy... is good.

  • Look for "How to speak Japanglish (Star Wars)" if you want a REAL very bad Japanese accent. Not this comedian ;)

  • He actually has a very heavy U.S.A. accent... :P

  • he has a bad bad accent

  • Is he a stand-up comedian or a Professor?

  • This is not japanese accent!!!

  • Do never make fun of English leaners !!!!!

  • ah wheres the whole video? I want to watch the rest xD! very interesting!

  • he sounds like a brah

  • I find this to be insulting and he should slap himself like I seriously hate it when people try to do so called "asian" accents. Like wtf are your doing, you sound like you're fr another fucking planet just stop.

  • @irocallday24 You missed the whole point of the video.

  • Japanese accent is almost nothing like that, so I have no idea what accent he used LOL

  • Sounds more like he's speaking with an Indonesian accent

  • I'm sure I sounds this weird trying to speak Japanese. And there at the end he scared me! I really thought he had an accent.

  • his insights are very true

  • I noticed most viewers do not watch the whole video b4 posting a comment.. He's a damn american! or so it sounds

  • FOB

  • Actually trying to learn Japanese (in a half assed sort of way but still ^^;). I'm sure I have a horrible American accent.

  • not japanese

  • It's absolutely not a Japanese accent. Typical Japanese accent sounds much more different from the standard accent.

  • its not japanese accent. way better than that

  • yes this is not japanese accent,,,

  • try to learn spanish fking ignorants...

  • i can't even repronounce a Japanese word right after i here it. Hats off to anyone who can speak another language. Arrogant Americans we are!!

  • It's not Japanese accent at all...

  • very glad to be back here in vaginia

  • It sounds like HK with a hint of Japanese but not really.

  • his accent is not japanese one at all.

  • he would make a better german accent :)

  • I think the point is that he prayed a trick on us.

  • It really is a "very bad" imitation of Japanese accent as he says, but that's not the point.

What he tries to convey in general is agreeable, but he made a mistake in saying "Actually I don't have an accent... the one you think of, right? (2:46)"

This ironically shows that rights protests of those who 'don't have an accent' (well he surely got some type of 'American accent') can be heard with some authority, and he is reproducing the authority the 'don't have an accent' people have.

  • @leylazhao It was in America so he didn't have an accent to Americans just like is you're British and you're talking to someone with a common British accent and you say "Oh, you have such an accent"!.

  • Comment removed

  • first thing i heard was "herro" and i knew it would be good!

  • Yeah. He shouldn't have started off with "How you do?". If you know enough English to give a speech in English you'd know that it's "How are you doing?"

    Fail

  • Not much of a Vietnamese accent. Not funny Steve. Useless, in fact.

  • Comment removed

  • It sounds like he's trying to make fun of asian Scooby-Doo, not speak in "Engrish". He's got so many more things than Japanese in there...

  • You understood me though. Anyway i dont wanna start a "fight" in here, take care of yourself.

  • vietnamese

  • With that sh thing..

    sounds like Korean 10%

sounds Vietnamese or Cambodian in intonation 30%

    style Japanese 5%

style like a wannabee Singaporean 50%

    5%

accent from the North Korea Double O Seven exaggerated

    Chinese-N.Korean accent.

  • I'm sorry but a lot of you must have went deaf when he said it was his "horrible Japanese accent" he got from watching karate kid. Like, everyone can hear how bad the accent "Japanese" accent was but not when but not when he said that. The majority of the people who were there probably don't even know the difference between a Japanese accent and a Chinese one since we still got thousands of Americans who still think they're both Chinese and Japanese are the same.

  • You've never heard "Japanese Accent " at all...

  • You know whats funny?

After some time being in Japan I can now ( in addition to fairly good Japanese) understand Engrish good :P

  • Vaginia very warm here lol

  • I think everyone missed the point of your video. As a teacher, I thought this was an excellent way to get ppl engaged and to make a point. I think I would have LOVED that conference. Some presenters are SO boring.

  • how is this funny?

he's trying to speak another language..which is the hardest language in the world

  • @firefail1 It was a joke.

  • funny. a vietnamese with a japanese accent.

  • That's not a Japanese accent, sorry.

  • he's definetely japanese.. coz only japanese can't say "L" and theres no "L" in their language.. so he said "ranguage" not "language"

  • very hard ranguage

  • Its warm hair in virgina.

  • He is not Japanese but Zapanese.

  • actually his japanese accent pretension is not perfect. just like he said "for example".

    such a clear speech...

  • @saiaskia

    うん その振りは中途半端だよな

  • "too many words in English mean same thing" ?? I really don't get this part. Can anyone explain me?

I mean, if "dear" and "deer" sound the same and so as "bear naked" and " bear, naked". is it supposed to be " a word in English (could) means different things"?

  • @HatanoD you clearly aren't English First language.

The English language uses the same sounds for several words, different spelling is all that makes such words have different meanings.

For example: "I'd" is I could, I would, I should. "Mine", "Mine"; "Time", "Thyme"; "Rhyme", Rime"

Once you are fluent, and by fluent I mean fluid (not fluid), get back to me and maybe resume or resign your argument.

  • @damin00388

??? You are confusing me. Did you understand my question correctly?

He said "too many words in English mean same thing". This, to me, means (for example,) "fun" "enjoyment" "pleasure" are different words but mean same thing.

As you say, " the same sounds for several words ". shouldn't he have said a word in English ( including the same sounds) mean different things?

  • @damin00388

And no, I am not English First language because I am not a language. If you mean English is not my first language. no, it is't either.

I got back to you because my intention was to ask a question, not to make an argument . And, for give me if I come out as rude but, I think saying something like " get back to me once you are fluent" sounds arrogant and pretentious.

Please reply to me if you think there is any misunderstanding ( about my question or your answer or anything else ).

  • I thought he meant "Deer" wife. Instead of dear. Wow he's right! We do have too many words that mean the same thing.

  • He's either chinese or vietnamese. definitely not japanese

  • He has Chinese or Indonesian accent

  • Did anyone even watch the video who is talking about the accents, it had nothing to do with that he's an American obviously... who grew up in America, and watched Karate Kid like he says. I'm confused did people not pay attention, maybe he was right... where if you speak a different accent people's attention spans suddenly drop.

  • I absolutely had a feeling there was going to be a "spin" in this vid. And whoop, there it is @ 2:53.

  • Stupid.

  • hahahahah

    Hello

    How you do ? hahahahaha

    u understand okay ?

    hahahaha

  • He is chinese or korean.

  • i like how he is still trying

  • ranguage

  • Hello=Hero lol

  • hey this is NOT japanese accent at all.

    this sounds chinese.

    im japanese.

  • niggers are the best

  • i like his penmanship

  • I belive his accent is fake all together. Sometimes he says a L like a R, and other times he pronounces it correctly. Why, because his accent is fake.

  • japanese people don't speak very well like him lol

  • -facepalm- It's neither a Chinese or a Japanese accent. And seriously, why is everyone arguing about this...?

  • Sounds Chinese if you ask me. I'd punch the fucker in the face any day.

  • all asians smart lol

  • ahahahahaha loved his letter example!

  • this is not japanese acccent at all and he is not even funny

  • lol, it's not a very good japanese accent, but he can pull it off because he's asian

  • Geez.... tough crowd! I recall him saying that was a very bad Japanese accent imitation. Don't all be so serious, lighten up and have a laugh. Our accents all sound funny/strange to other cultures. This guy is funny though. I'm South African and I have an accent but I love the way the Japanese speak - with so much energy and enthusiasm. Everyone to their own!

  • i agree wif jary2 , dun ever make fun , plz .

  • Huh? This is soooo not Japanese accent at all....no need to be mocked from a white washed.

  • Lol, you english speakers make fun, of someone non-native speaking english, and just look to an american or british trying to speak another language, any language except english of course, its hilarious, you can't even pronounce!

  • @Jary2 lol So true! I had several exchange partners in school and college over the years. Germans speak spanish better. North Americans are hilarious :D

  • @Jary2 And you don't understand the English grammar system whatsoever. Hilarious, you can't even construct sentences!

Also, generalizations are not chill, man, I don't like that. There are plenty of Americans and British abroad that speak foreign languages well. And plenty of people that honestly try to speak foreign languages as well as they can.

  • Comment removed

  • @JusteunMusicien He does have a good point though. People with their native language being English do have a higher tendency than anyone else to condemn foreign dialects under the assumption that their language is the main language in the world therefore everyone should know it. That is one stupid world-view you know.

And I hope you've deliberately justified his statement with your discriminative sentence, if not - you're an idiot who's just made a self-contradicting objection.

  • @ernis1100 well actually...english and french are kind of the universal languages that are used all around the world...

  • @Jary2 lol tell me about it they cant even roll the "R" which is used in most languages

  • @Jary2 Okay, I'm going to post a video of me speaking french and reading lyrics in french and see if you say the same thing.

  • @Jary2 Yeah, like Spanish people make fun of Americans for speaking so slowly.

  • @Jary2 relax!

  • Guys, it's obviously just a joke. I hope you realize how immature it is to argue whether it's a Japanese or Chinese accent ..

  • this is not so a japanese accent...

  • @shecallsm3arekkusu sounds more like chinese.

  • "all asians smart"

lol yea, except cambodians, theyre defective...

  • That was a terrible Japanese accent. Sounded closer to Chinese -- especially the mistakes in grammar.

  • So a Chinese accent literally mean mistakes in grammar for you?

I am offended. We just pronounce things in a different rhythm. Individuals who makes mistakes in grammar are individuals who makes mistakes in grammar. NOT another race's accent.

  • No, you are mistaking my comment. I live in Japan, thus I know the typical mistakes in grammar of Japanese. I also know many Chinese. The way they make mistakes in grammar are different. The way this guy made mistakes in grammar sounds like the way a Chinese person would. e.g. Chinese typically omit particles, Japanese confuse word order...

  • "way this guy made mistakes in grammar sounds like the way a Chinese person would."

Please, I've been living in a Chinese community for 19 years of my life and don't you think I know how a Chinese accent would sound like? It definitely doesn't sound like that, that's for sure and I've always felt a little estranged when I see people saying that a "Canto accent" is a Chinese accent.

  • haha. karate kid.ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Japanese...........they are really really bad at pronouncing English..

Biggu Bang Bang~ call it "Big Bang"~!

    Practice!

  • I think it more like CHINKY...Japanese doesn't like that...

  • This is exaggerated, and doesn't sound Japanese accent at all. Sounds more like Jackie Chan.

  • Hi,I am Japanese living in Canada. I think this is NOT Japanese accent. This might be Chinese accent..

  • chinese accent obviously

  • chinese can say their "L"s. They have characters like Liu, Lao, Lian, Long, its the japanese who cant say their "L"s.

  • @PhinnyCobbler 这是越南口音

  • wut

  • WHERE IS PART 2

  • WTF ITS NOT JAPANESE

  • not japanese accent

  • I like accents...

  • This is funny.

Is there a second part to the video?

  • Guys... Why are you arguing what his accent is? He says IN THE VIDEO that he's "tall in Vietnam" implying that he's from Vietnam. And if you have ever met someone with a Vietnamese accent you'd be able to tell that he's clearly Vietnamese. He even looks Viet!

  • This is surely not a Japanese accent.

  • I think this is Chinese accent.

  • Sounds more Chinese tbh.

  • nah his accent is not japanese

  • sounds very chinese

  • im japanese but, im quite sure that he is not real japanese. i thought he is chinese for he's speaking with unique to chinese accents

  • hi

    im japanese.

i also dont think he is japanese

  • It just seems like he is doing the stereo-typed Asian accent. It seems like a mixture of a bunch of eastern world accents but that's just me.

  • I just guess though he is not Japanese.

I find his English is not so well, but Japanese "bad" English speakers sond more strange. He speaks better than many of Japanese "bad" English speakers. I personally think he is from Asian country such as China. As a Japanes, I am sure he is not native Japanese.

  • he's like Russell Peters with the accent thing

  • That didn't sound like a Japanese accent. That sounded like my Taiwanese friend speaking English...besides the Japanese L/R thing.

  • This guy rocks. at first I thought he was a real Japanese. but now I know this kinda guys would never have come out of such insuffocating Japanese society. This guy is very charimatic , humorous and got the point.

  • No, that is an Indonesian accent.

  • That's not a Japanese accent. Japanese people tend to end a vowel sound with almost every single word. And they don't say "herro." To English ears, Japanese would sound like they say "heddo."

English is extremely hard to Japanese people.

I really didn't think this guy had that bad of an accent. I am able to understand him quite well.

  • Yea, this seems more like a Chinese accent. Either that, or it's fake.

  • 4:29 raise your hand if your a douche

  • He got the 'L' sound pretty good. : P

  • LMFAO, i uhh take shower barenaked and go to zoo and see bear, naked.

  • He is VIETNAMESE. :D

  • i dont know why americans think they have no accents. americans are so isolated that they think they are the only country in the world.

  • if that was a standup act it wouldve been really funny i thought it was at first he has like a sports or weatherman commenting voice kool guy though

  • I Japanese think his English is too fluently to be Japanese English.

  • I agree, even though im not Japanese

  • His accent sounds more like the stereotypical chinese accent.

  • Surely not a Japanese accent. The real Japanese accent is even worse than what he did.

  • It scared me when he lost his accent.
