I work with large EMD and Cat engines on offshore oil rigs, I would be suprised if it was more than 1200HP. The motor is a V12 similar size to a cat 398 or 3512. Since it has a generator mounted to it, it will be a constant speed engine meant to run at about 1200 rpm. I am sure that you could get 2500HP from it but not in this application or setup. Nice video, thumbs up!

judging by that red pod on the end of it, i suspect its used as an emergency backup generator for somewhere, (hospital, government installation etc) where they have a large electrical load to supply

@kjellare Deltic diesels are still around (Junkers thought up the idea of opposed pistons hence no head gasket to blow) Three cranks are used in a triangle but the engine design could not be balanced until a clever bod deduced that one of the cranks has to run backwards. 3000 BHP and no pesky gaskets to blow. Unfortunately the Deltic locomotives were too heavy for branch lines or something. The UK, where railways were invented, now imports locomotives! Its so crazy you couldn't make it up.

@xRaynFirex Its a generator set like they have on big ships or for standby power when the grid fails. By the way the magnetic field in those generators can put immense strain on the ball bearings which frequently fail unless premium grade bearings are used (IMHO the designer should be sacked if the things won't work with ordinary commercial grade ball races) You just can't get the right staff any more.

Engines like that, which are diesel make peak power at relatively low RPM's. Only smaller gasoline engines rev high. I doubt that engine is designed to run above 3k rpm.

diesels dont have to have a turbo they just raise the compression ratios to like 24 to 1 from around 16 to 1 with a turbo setup

That is a small engine by all standards. I was a design engineer at Solar Turbines in San Diego and we had turbine engines up top 20,000 plus HP and those were medium size engines compared to Rolls Royce. 50,000 HP!
