@Sha404Bby Exactly right. Sets of pencils with different hardnesses are unneccesary, and a waste of money. A #2 graphite pencil is all that you ever need for any pencil drawing; you control the darkness with pressure only. (Colored pencil drawings rely upon the same pressure control, with the addition of delicate blending).

@JeffersonDinedAlone i agree and disagree with you, it is all about what the artist likes. As an art student ( I currently attend Palmer High School and take College classes at CC) i find many of my colleagues using only a 2B Derwent pencil. While many others use a whole set rangeing from 6H to 8B. I use a 4H and a 2B because i find it a pain in the ass to get a light smooth shade with a 2B pencil. It is not useless and is not a waste of money, you clearly know very little about the medium.

Actually, I think this is a tutorial, contrary to most commenters' beliefs. As an artist you draw by studying something, taking it apart and putting it back together to make the picture and then drawing it, painting, etc. The most difficult thing is trying to figure out how to take something apart and how to put it back together on the page. Any video that shows that process is a tutorial, and if you're willing, you will learn from it. Pay attention and you'll be surprised what you will learn.

@youGOTpwndFYI That's right. I suspect these commenters are not actually artists or aren't any good. Only a person who doesn't know what they're doing needs a word for word tutorial. That plus, I find that someone telling me to draw a certain way doesnt help. You have to come up with your own style. All you need to know is how to compose it, then composite yourself. For example,I used Mark Crilley's tutorials to first learn to draw eyes, but I still draw my eyes very differently in my own style

I agree....this isn't really a tutorial. It's clear you have skill, but in order to have a tutorial, you need to teach everyone exactly what you're doing and how you're doing it...I can just see people watching this video with this blank stare trying to figure out why you're doing this and that and how to do it. It's a great drawing, but try to explain more in your future videos if you want it to be more helpful.

I always cringe when people blend or "smudge" with graphite pencils. If you're going to smudge and blend, use charcoal; it's made to smear and your blacks will be black without the silvery sheen of graphite.

@graffitilearner Use a mirror. but really the hair tends to go vertical closest to the nose rather than horizontal as with the rest of the brow, and they all tend to curve slightly. but the best advice is to draw some from close up pictures i guess
