Yank. I knew she was a yank. Close to the my Granny's bread but unless the recipe is measured in cups, fishts and pinches then it's never gonna be right. And just for anyone who wants to try it, butter milk was always too expensive so you use normal milk with a bit of vinegar to sour it.

Gr8 thanks for this, I have been adding some baking powder, baking soda & a touch of cream of tat tar (citric acid ) then putting in a heavy skillet with alot of flour on a low heat. Try some time I tried yours too & was beautiful too.Cheers from NZ
