Thanks, but I tried everything I could and this was the only way I could make it work. The magnet is inside the black ring above where I put the paper. It may not be the absolute correct way to fix it, but it has worked for me and it saved me a lot of money. That is the only reason I posted this video. I encourage you to make a video to show how to do it the right way and maybe you can pay it forward and help others too.Let me know if you do.I'll pass it on.
Um? I'm not really sure what you are trying to tell me. My laser moves fine and it doesn't grind anymore. Maybe you could clear up what you are trying to tell me. Sorry.
Well....... thanks for the feedback. It was the only way I could get the magnet to stay down though and it seems to be working still. AND....I'm not a dumb ass...I'm actually pretty smart.
YES!!!! I have 2 English Bulldogs(about to get another one) and they not only snore, but they sound like that when they are awake too. It was cute at first and then it was annoying and now we don't even hear it. LOL.
I didn't glue it. When I used the hole punch, I left a few tips and just tucked them under. I made it snug so that I wouldn't add extra thickness by adding glue to it.
Thanks for the video. Your method did improve my Xbox. It still makes a quiet grinding noise, but not the unbearably loud grinding it made before, and doesn't fail to recognize discs anymore. Hopefully it lasts me a few months until I can afford a new Xbox.
Glad it helped, but if your paper was a little bit thicker it won't make that sound at all. Plus, if it's making that sound, it means that it is slowly scratching your discs and that could cost you some money to replace them later on. Play around with other papers of different thickness. Let me know what happens.
Brilliant video. My Xbox isn't 100% (it is 5 years old!) but this has been the best solution so far. It runs almost-always first time. Thank you for this.
Well, your question wasn't very specific, but I think you are talking about the gray disc that holds the disc down while it is spinning. It is usually on the metal cover that you have to remove from the dvd drive. It comes off and you need it to hold the disc in place while it is spinning or the disc will become a projectile. Hope this answers your question.
Thanks for you video. After glueing back the magnet, it was the doing the grinding noise for me as well. I tried the paper and it got me thinking about why the space got created. Because the magnet was removed the little hooks on the black spinner was pushed in... you just need to pull them out a little bit, put everything back together and voila ! It works with no spacer... Thanks for inspiring me :)
@Halo3machenima I have the same disc drive and the same problem im just going to get a new disc drive but if you have the money probably u will save money on getting a new xbox. Btw if ur gonna et a new disc drive u need to watch a video on how or u will be banned from xbox ( I think )
and i have had open tray errors and unreadable disc errors plus grinding/scratching noise and disc skip with new out-of-package games ect. my errors happen with every game including new out-of-package games what can I do to fix it without: sending in to get fixed, buying new disc drive/console?? been like this for 3 months now plus my black ops game won't play even on my friend's console. PLEASE HELP!!!
Well, if it is still under warranty, don't do what I did. Let the experts fix it because once you break that seal by opening it, you void the warranty and they won't fix it. My unit wasn't under warranty anymore and I didn't want to pay to have it fixed, so I litterally took it apart and watched different videos and tried different things and I figured it out. The only reason I posted this video is because it took me days of going through videos on youtube and different sites
and there wasn't really much out there that addressed my problem with my unit. So, I made a video to hopefully help anyone out there that had a similar problem. I cannot stress enough that if the xbox you have is under warranty...DO NOT OPEN IT!!! My xbox is still working great and I haven't had any other problems since I fixed it 9 months ago.
Before trying this, try taking the bottom part of the drive off and unscrewing the bolts thats hold the wheel in place. Just look around for them, there are three, it should be obvious where they are. Unscrew them and unplug the little paper thing from the motherboard. Take the wheel part off by just pulling it off. Get some q-tips and take the head off so that you can fit them inside the hole. Clean out the gunk in there. Then get some lubrication and lubricate the hole and the spindel. Cheers!
I have one of the newer models of the xbox 360, and I have been searching endless problems with my xbox, but i just tried this and it worked? Thank you sooooo much :D

I think you need something a little thicker than an index card, but cut a paper disc out of it and give it a try.

what kinda paper? like printer paper?
jasin18 3 months ago

No. It needs to be a little thicker than printer paper. The paper I used was from an old christmas card. It needs to be like a cardstock type paper.
