  • Elbows in, release, wait before the jumps (don't rush) and don't let your legs swing so much. i had these same problems, and so did my friend. Her legs used to swing so much that my trainer tied her stirrups to her girth for jumps. Maybe you should try that. and i understand the jumps are kind of high, but theres no reason for you to gallop at them, go a little easy on your poor horse. he made it over the biggest one with room to spare.

  • Please jump at your level, you could really get hurt, or even hurt your horse.

  • I like this video, sure she might not be the best rider, but shes having fun... -_-

  • that poor horse. I'll take it in :)

  • who teach u ride? because you got ripped off

  • a tip for your posture

    1. DO NOT LOOK AT THE GROUND! If you do you will end up there.

    2. Heels down.

    3. when you go over the jump, release you reins a bit.

    4. watch my videos or some other good rider so can really see what we are talking about!

  • @heidihoney1 I watched your videos and I'm not sure she should be taking advice from you ..

  • @missequijumper WTF!! people agree with me I understand this was a while ago, but no need to be rude! Hahah At least I am a better rider than you, just giving you some helpful points! When I first started jumping my pony I looked at the gorund when ijumped and I almost got dumped cause she stoped! :P

  • every one is saying that shes a bad rider, agreed and everyone who is saying that her riding is just fine has something seriously wrong with them. this girl really really rushes her horse into these jumps, is always looking at the jumps and not ahead where she should be looking and she leans foreward into the jump way to much. beautiful horse tho, im surprised that it hasn't thrown u onto the jumsp, considering how ur riding it!!!

  • love how everyone's like "awful rider" and "bad position".

NOT EVERYONE IS PERFECT. look at showjumpers, a lot of their legs flick up when they jump. not everyone can have a perfect position, different people have different styles of riding so why crit ALL the TIME.

good riding, may be 4 years ago but still, ignore what everyone is saying.

  • Damn Patient horse.

  • awww that horse is really cute <3 great video :)

  • your horse is lovely, but dont chase him, i know this is a long time ago, i know you have improved, i cant say I'm any better, but dont kick kick kick and then pull back and dont rush him into them because if he was to refuse you would fall of instantly! but lovely horse :) but dont chase! haha xx

  • and how long have you been riding for m'love? because i've only been riding for 1 year but even i know you aren't meant to jump a horse like that :L

  • Comment removed

  • adding to neoncatty's comment, LOOK UP QUIT STARING AT THE JUMP

  • 1:04 wtf!?:S

  • Whats all this with 'good horse, but awful rider'? Shes probably a much better rider than most! Nobodys perfect! Jeez. I think her ridings just fine tbh. At least she can stay on. :)

  • awesome horse!! but absolutly awful rider awful.

  • @awerocks123 god i saw an acident waiting to happen in the pics the stirrups were a tiny bit to short her feet were to far in the stirrup and her legs were back.... this was 4 years ago maybe shes better but omg thats scaring me

  • you've got a damn patient horse, i would have dumped your ass on the ground before you even jumped anything.

  • @mizzmaggiefinearts absolutely right ;)

  • keep you heels down but other then that great pair(:

  • ur arms at down they shoudl be bent and straight at 0:06 if ur horse pulled away u would be able to turn him back ! lol and yeah ur canter and jumping position needs alot of work!

  • this horse is great, but you need to learn how to ride.

    - heels down; your legs are flying backwards and the horse is uncomfortable.

    - give with your hands; if you keep jabbing his mouth on take off+ the jump, soon he isn't going to want to jump, and you may harm the muscles in his neck by constricting them.

    - keep a light seat on landing; you're coming down too hard on his back, and if you carry on he may get a bad back/bad muscular structure.

this is coming from an equine physiotherapist!

  • totally agree with neoncatty and xXGlamRiderXx

  • That horse looks annoid.

  • LOOK UP OVER THE JUMP PLEASEEEEEEEE!

  • why is everyone saying this rider is bad? we all have faults, she isnt slamming down on the saddle, and she isnt holding the horses mouth, and my mare canters like this at jumps....i cnt really see a problem??

nice video hun, beautiful horse x

  • you shouldn't be jumping this height when you are riding this badly. why? because you night stuff up the horse.

  • WOW, you have a terriabel postion, you need a lot of no stirrup work. head UP! Hands UP! HEALAS DOWN! you shouldnt be allowed to jump just pure flat work.

should give your horse to me since you cant ride. or well just have ppl stop commenting on this video or give us and update on how worse youve gotten. ugh, way to give us riders a bad name.

  • you shouldnt chase your horse into the jump so much... he has more than enough power to get over it and if he makes a mistake and cant sort himself out you are going to have a big accident.

  • try not to lean froward so much when ur not doin like a MASSIVE jump?

  • Jumping one jump at a time is all good and well, but successfully negotiating a jumper course with tight turns and close distances will put your form technique and controll to the test. Find a good trainer to help you get more stable over fences and help you get more detailed controll of your horse. It looks like you both have a lot of potential, but a challenging course could get you into a lot of trouble.

  • Mother of god, what are you doing? PLEASE, before you get into a wreck and hurt your horse or yourself, Check your speed, count your strides and get a damn instructor. You're very lucky you have such an honest and seasoned looking horse. Any other horse wouldn't be so forgiving.

  • In the first pic he looked like my horse haha

  • Why don't all of you people criticiziing her go do something else? She can rides however she feels like. Its her horse, and she is a very good rider. so....yeah. get a life and stop criticizing people on youtube it just makes you look ignorant and stupid.

  • @HorseGurl73097 Well when you post something on youtube, You somewhat expect an opinion...... otherwise you wouldnt upload something like how you ride...... so yeah i agree with neoncatty

Have a nice day ^_^ though its a lovely horse

  • @HorseGurl73097 ... she's NOT that good a rider

  • Passe devant sur tous les sauts, jamais à ta place et regarde par terre sans arrét... Le cheval est vraiment, vraiment, trés gentil....

  • You're not ready to be jumping that.

  • good job but try keeping your heels down. you will have better balance

  • Dont look down and keep ur elbows at ur side and u need to have a flatter back (: But other wise its really good (:

  • um do you take lessons? i think one lesson would help if you dont cause your back looks a little hunched in two point when it shouldnt. not being mean

  • Beautiful horse and i totaly agree with @tightgreenpantswupsh

you really have to stop looking down or thats where you will end up, im not being mean just trying to help im not perfect either i used to look down alot too.

    keep riding :)

  • guys show jumping is about not knocking down any obsticals and GETTING THE FASTEST TIME!! so if here horse is faster at it but doesnt knock them down thats a good thing. now this would be different if it was hunter bc that is about style of jumping.

  • @gothicrocker123 While yes that is the goal of showjumping, for the and soundness of the horse and rider there is still technique and refinement that should be worked towards! Hunter, jumper, equitation, cross country, doesn't matter. Both the horse and rider will benefit from it.

  • @gothicrocker123 No. Its not, hun. Even though your not judged you should still be focussed on you and your horses safety first. Then focus on your time.

  • nice horse... but thats all :)

  • you have a nice horse!

  • What a trusting beautiful horse you have!!

  • just like my ex-racer he powers into a fence and if you accidently point him a a fence good luck tryna get him away from it i know how scary it can be so well done keep at it x

  • @Lillie1213 I don't see you jumping a horse or even riding a horse like this =] Try it, I dare you.

  • You have a very kind, honest horse (:

  • Plus does no one realize this video was posted in 2007? lol

  • I really wish people wouldn't criticize videos when the person who posted the video never asked for it....

  • Don't smack your horse use you legs, they are ther you know

  • Try to keep your heels down and look up, your a great rider!

  • Get those elbows in and don't let him rush to the jump and you guys will look much better!

  • @macandme9597 i agree as i am a track hurdler,i never would have argued but i do not appreciate being called a joke im a southerner and we believe tht things are not settled through words, which is why i am not good with fighting words i can fight like a man though anyway i am not going to waste my time on that person cuz i have a life and dont waste it on the computer like hmeb does. have a nice day :)

  • mightymouth4ever, are you joking a horse needs muscles, you sound like a joke yourself haha

  • dont let the negative comments get you down you have your own jumping style so dont let these ppl tell you what to do

  • equitation and correct distances is way more important than how high you can possibly jump. try and start small, work on bounces and courses to secure your leg, improve your release and give you an eye for distances, it will help your horse too. :)

  • wow I don't know why people are being so mean about your riding. Yes not everyone is perfect by from my point of view you ride well and you can see you and your horse trusts each other.

I really want to get back into riding =( just as I was getting a name for myself my mum sold my showjumper and wont let me keep a horse on her property if I want to do more than train and sell =*(

  • you should really consider taking your horse to the vet because with that riding i'm sure he has joint and muscle problems. poor thing

  • your horse is an absolute superstar! sorts out all the striding, really knows what he's doing, bless!

everybody has their faults; you really look like you get along with him really well, and to be honest, nobody is perfect. you are a genuinely good rider and i poo myself over the smallest of jumps so well done. :)

  • Learn to ride and your horse need muscles

  • @hmeb4drkwins if a horse h=loves what its doing it doesnt need muscle my mare is 16 and is a retired cutting.barrelracing, polebending, calf roping and jumping horse but me and her still do it all for fun she doesnt have alot of muscle but she is good at it. the horse in this video loves it and so does the rider so shut tht mouth of yours until you become a flawless rider thankyou and have a nice day

  • @mightymouth4ever Are you joking horses need muscles wow im shocked you said that horses dont need muscles....Well it sounds like you are a joke yourself haha im sorry please think about what you say before you sound dumb on here....remember everyone !!!!!HORSES DONT NEED MUSCLES!!!!!! hahaha

  • @hmeb4drkwins horses need muscle but they do not need to be highlighted with muscle to jump or anything big muscles is plus but again a horse can be big boned which can give it just as much power as big muscle and i aint a joke dumbass!

  • @mightymouth4ever haha you sound so dumb right now please do some research before you say things

  • Your horse is a superstar hahah. There were a couple of jumps there that you kind of gave up on him/her and he/she said "dont worry mum i got this"

Your riding style is alright, and obviously no one is perfect, I'd say just go a little lower in the heigh category and work on being more in sync with your horse on the spots, that way your position will be a little more solid, and horsie won't have to work so hard over the fences. Good job though!! That second jump was lovely! :) Nice horse!!

  • @horsegrl434 HA. Well i would like to see you jump a fence that high and clear it with no mistakes?!! your such a loser.

  • I would like to see both the last two people to commented who jump. Please post your video so that we can criticize you.

  • If this was real showjumping, you'd be disqualified within the first five seconds.

  • Your horse is a true athlete, but you're riding methods are ludicrous.

    1. MOVE YOUR HANDS DOWN HIS NECK. I mean, are you trying to keep his head back when he jumps?

    2. Please, please learn to canter properly. If you're gonna jump that high, learn the basics.

    3. You're jumping WITH the horse, not sticking your butt as far as you can get it up.

    4. Keep your butt out of the saddle as your landing so you don't smash it against the back of the saddle.

    5. Get a trainer -.-

  • @neoncatty She probably was hunter equ before this... it would explain some of it.

  • @neoncatty exactly what i was going to say...

  • WOW this looks great fun , i love riding a bit DANGEROUSLY from time to time, my horse loves it and so do I, shame the people on these comments dont have as much FUN as we do!!! ( plus nice horse and good form ;) )!!!

  • talented horse you have gets him self out of the long or short spots

  • dude who taught you to ride

  • Comment removed

  • Ludger Beerbaum never has his heel down when he jumps and he is one of the best riders in the world. Think before you start bashing people....idiots.

  • @brooklyn1311 He doesn't wear tennis shoes AND he can keep his eyes up AND he actually learned how to ride before he started jumping big.

  • holy crap, look up or else you're gonna eat shit.

  • it is unsafe cause her heels are up and shes looking down.

  • it is unsafe cause her heels are up and shes looking down

  • beautiful horse

  • all credit must go to the horse for actually be able to jump thse jumps and not have an accident...

  • @xXclaireeXbabyeeXx hahahaha

  • don't pump

  • Hun, I know this is an old video, but please for the safety of you and your horse. work on timing, don't just go into basic whenever, go with the horse, it'll make jumping easier on the horse and safer. Also work on position, leaning that far forward, over the pommel of the saddle can be really dangerous in anything were to go wrong in the take off or landing (I have been in/seen a few serious accidents due to things like that). then heel down and elbows in.

  • ur heels need to be down....

  • i'm worried about his feet. . . they look a little. . . cut incorrectly. . .

  • @duh1duh23 ahahah agreed..

  • you guys look great :) you have really good equitation over the fences especially since he rushes to them so much. maybe try keeping his pace slow up to smaller jumps and then do the bigger ones for practice? just a suggestion. you have a fantastic horse but i'm worried that one of you is going to get hurt because there's no control!

  • your VERY lucky you have such an honest horse. ur not setting him up for the jump atall, ur basically pointing and saying kay jump, your lower leg is extremely loose and swings about like crazy. height doesnt mean anything, you should be stable over lower fences and your horse should be forward, with a nice bouncy canter, not gunning it and sayin well he;ll jump when he jumps. you gotta find your spacing so its easier for you and your horse

  • PLEASE try to keep your leg at least a little bit still when you're jumping

  • @horsiegirl97 or her heels down for that matter

  • @iBlingYoFace I don't think you know what it looks like when someone puts their heels down.

  • @BarnSour4Prince i don't think you know squat about riding

  • @iBlingYoFace You're right, I don't. The United States Pony Club just gave me my C1 rating because they thought I was pretty and my 3 students pay me to sit around and chat about shoes. Stupid.

  • wtf do u rush ur horse to fences :/ ??

  • in the pictures that i saw his front legs were really uneven, when they are that uneven it is very dangourous especially if a horse gets his legs caught in a brushbox, you should have his vet look at him :)

  • @multidressagequeen it looks like the horse just got a deep distance to the fence. Over the bigger fences his legs are fine, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

  • My horse is called Mickey

  • well i think you've got guts tackling that height. ignore all the crappy comments, no one is perfect! you and your horse clearly have a bond for him to do the stuff you do! and you give your hands to allow the horse over the jump so as far as the horse is concerned there isnt a problem really. people just just let you do what you do :)

  • Looks to me like her only equitation issue is heels. She also ducks every so often. But other than that she's a great jumper!

  • i thought it was heels down...

  • hmmmmm, YOu guys look GREAT! dont get me wrong. just a pointer..... get your heels down, it will help you keep your balance before through and after the jump, and will keep you from over seating through the jump. but thats only if you plan on showing your horse jumping. JUST A TIP, YOU GUYS look great together though!!! :) keep up the hard work with your horsieee!!

  • wow! that is amazing!! =] what on earth is your horse on? you guys just fly right over that jump! what kind of horse do you have??

  • you overclose a lot over the jumps. but great job still!

  • Do you really think that she posted this on youtube so a bunch of people that she doesn't know could give her ridding info? If she wants ridding advice I am sure she will ask.

  • @zxblaster1 learn to spell riding

  • @horseridingbabe588 really?

  • @KelseyKayeRoss really what? :L

  • @horseridingbabe588 lol i dont get it? lol

  • @KelseyKayeRoss ehh :L i said to someone you need to learn to spell riding and you said really? :P i was confused....

  • @horseridingbabe588 hahah lol idk? i cant remember no more :P i prob replied tothe wrong comment... ha :L

  • he rushes to the jump because he doesnt know how to use his whole body. he gets anxious and nervous, so he just runs up to it. just because a horse is running up to a jump doesnt nessasarily mean he loves jumping. to make it a more enjoyable thing for both you and your horse you must build his topline. you need to do that because, yea hes jumping now, but in 10 years he'll be stopping short at fences because he has pain in his back from jumping incorrectly.

  • i really hate to be one of those people who just sits around and criticizes when they aren't asked [i KNOW i'm not the best], but seriously.

do some flat work. you have a gorgeous horse, but he doesn't know how to use himself approaching, jumping, or landing from a jump. really build up his topline, hind end, and shoulders. that way, he can truly enjoy what he does. then work on having your eyes up and heels down. then you can start jumping again lower, and then gradually move back up to this.:]

  • @tightgreenpantswupsh honestly why does his top line and hind end matter if she isn't competing? i jump bareback and in a western saddle and my horse does just fine! the posture of the horse honestly only matters if you are competing!

  • @breezerismyboi101 thats unrelevant tho. already said that.. I said I personally dont like that. Never said you liked it or anything..

  • @breezerismyboi101 I didn't say down did I? I said tucked in. As in to their chest and/or behind the vertical AKA Rollkur.

I rode western for 8 years, I think I know how to get a horse's head down, the proper way. No tie downs/martingales, no force through the bit. I would never want my horse with his nose in the sky. Thats not good in more ways than one.

  • dont listen to anybody. your great :)

  • @XxgwenyxX and don't listen to this person because i think they were watching another video

  • @breezerismyboi101 hmm I'll have to look into that. I really dont like to have my horse's heads tucked or anything tho

  • @breezerismyboi101 what is that?? We are going to get my pony to start jumping in a year or so, and by then he will be 4..

I know its not for a while, but what is that anyways?

  • You dont have to go fast to get over the jump half halt and go slower but have his energy bottled jump and right before you jump sqeeze your legs

  • before jumping at this height i would strongly suggest a stronger base of support. Keeping your heels down, your calf on your horse, and your leg still. Practice in two point and relaxing into your heel then work over poles and small cross rails. And KEEP YOUR EYES UP!

  • I agree with MelissaxMeltdown. Indeed. The way this rider is jumping is unsafe. Sits WAY too far up in the saddle over the jump. If something were to happen to the horse upon landing, she'd be flying off with a seat like that. It might work for the horse, but team effort goes so far. Safe riding goes way farther.

  • I think you're both effective and safe, but your knee and lower leg seems to fly back. I do this too with apryl, both our horses seem to put in tremendous effort its difficult to stay with them. work on really getting the shock of movement into your heels, i almost imagine i'm pointing my heels at the fence (though not literally) and relax and breathe down into them. The up head attack the jump is a common way a SJ goes, but he is evading the bit. good team though!

  • i used to teach but am the last person to comment on someones riding, your both jumping together and clearing the jump nicely, i think it is more important that you look secure, ive known people that have competed to a high level and look a lot untidier! well done, you and your horse are obviously both enjoying yourselves and your a very good rider

  • nice riding :) gorgeous horse!

  • please! just get off the horse!Play tennis!

  • @SClucy rude much?

  • it looks as if ur horse is taking control of u went turnin in2 de jump nd u need 2 hold him up and relax his head and kepp ur toes in nd heels down now trust me if u did any type of big sj compitition on him u wud loose bags ov marks

  • @640Lindsey some horses just run like that. i used to ride a dressage and ex steeple chaser that ran like that.

  • No offense, but I think it would do you well to learn to jump smaller obstacles before going this height... You need to learn to keep your heels down, toes turned in, and keep your chin up! Also, it looks like your horse is just taking off before a fence and doing whatever he pleases... you should work on controlling him.

  • keep your heels down, hold on with ur calf, not your knee, that;s why your leg swings back. keep ur head up and ur butt closer to the saddle. let him come up to you. arch your back a bit more. collect him more before the fence, hes rushing them like crazy, and pumping with your seat is making it worse. sorry to be so critical, but these are things that will keep you from getting hurt.

  • loveing it but dont look dodwn :)

  • try to start pushing him a bit father away for the jump no 3 strides away :)

  • @Greeneggsandhamish Is telling me your horses life accomplishments going to change the fact that he rushes like crazy and there is a chance he could flip if you ride like that? Not saying that what your doing doesn't work out for you, but there are some major areas you need to improve on. I think this is an old video, your riding style has probably change some.

  • it looks that the horse it not under control.

    but it jumps well :)

  • Nice horse, but look up when your jumping, you keep looking down to the right!!

    :)

  • when he shoves his head up and dosnt listen to you give him a tap on the shoulder..

  • @majorfruit that is terrible advice, i have a tb who is very much like this, if she gets wound up she sticks her head in the air + runs off, tapping her on the shoulder would only make this a hundred times worse + wind her up even more, you have to work on getting your horse to relax to get it to lower its head, hitting it will do the exact opposite...

  • @640lindsey hes so scopey i dont think that theyll be flipping anytime soon!!!

  • 640Lindsey is right. Amazing though :]

  • @PokeyRider1 Yes. Like I said before there is no need to be a crazy person about position/way of riding but there is a point where you need to be doing it in a safe way.

  • he looks like hes having fun but he needs more control before the jump, hes runs towards it and just hopes to get over it. hold him back alittle and u will find it more enjoyable :)

  • It waz great Mickey looks like he enjoys it and he is beautiful and u were all over his neck and toes up and heels down ... but u do the same thing i d my trainer gives me a hard time a bout my feet to but u looked good for the most part and i love Mickey what breed is he... =)

  • Well imo she's doing well, it's nice to see someone capable of jumping a horse in a plain snaffle and cavesson rather than the totally over bitted mess you often see!!

  • This is painful to watch. I mean not everyone has to look or be perfect but SAFETY. the way this rider is jumping is unsafe.

  • @MelissaxMeltdown how is it unsafe you make no sense

  • @audy144 There is a difference between having a bad position and having such a bad position that it puts you in danger. If the horse were to stop or trip or decide to throw her over the jump, she wouldn't have a prayer. Her heels need to be DOWN not up. Trust me, im not a stickler about perfect postion but there IS a reason we are taught to ride a certain way. Safety.

  • @MelissaxMeltdown i understand where your coming from iv been riding for 11 years i didn't quite concentrate on her position i just wanted to watch the horse jump lol so i didn't notice her heels up i know there supposed to be down. i understand where your getting at now though...

  • @audy144 :]

  • @MelissaxMeltdown im not disagreeing, just generally curious, but how is it unsafe?

  • good job , but dont look at the jump i dont think you wanna end up there ;)

  • you maybe need to work on getting better position ect. before jumping bigger... just saying xx

  • nice :) what breed she is?

  • Ur horse looks like he enjoys jumping

  • i love ur horse! haha nice job but mayb work without stirrups and lots of 2 point work itll help get ur heel down haha i have the same prob good job tho!

  • cute horse, cute rider, keep your eyes up over the jumps, i learned the hard way, lol, you WILL follow your eyes ;-) best of luck to you, good job

  • Wow I'm amazed there are so many self appointed authorities out there. Have you people even looked at Lucille's other videos, particularly the ones of Mickey in '09? They've come a long way & probably not due to all of the disparaging comments on this vid. Did she ask for your comments? I'm looking forward to all the flawless vids you armchair quarterbacks have on YouTube. Congratulations on rehabbing this nice horse Lucille. Keep progressing. The sky's the limit.

  • Comment removed

  • It looked nice, but the other people who commented are right.

  • You're puttin your heel like, into your horses kidney during jumps...you need to do some more work on your jumping form...

  • :O you really need to work on your leg and upper body, and keep your heels down! And dont rush to the fence, speed doesnt get a horse over, compulsion does...

  • @eliza671 it's actually IMPULSION that gets a horse over a fence nicely not COMPULSION!!!!! LMAO :D

  • No offense, but I think you should work on slowing him down a little, getting more control, and perfecting your seat before you jump this high.

  • good job! jus try to keep ur leg more forward and your heels down! but other than that very good!
