This car was such a sad story: GM was the only company to seriously take on the legendary Mazda Miata. They developed a new chassis and designed a stunning interior and exterior.  Unfortunately, the Mazda's chassis was far superior and the Solstice's folding roof robbed every last bit of trunk space. Also, Pontiac's engine, while more powerful, was a less sophisticated unit than the 2.0L found in the Miata. The Solstice was faster, but the Miata was better.

@jewlzorjay Forget it. Instead of creating a use-able top, they discontinued the convertible. It now only comes in a half-top "Targa" configuration and there's no place to take the top with you. I've driven it and it's squirrelly. You will NEVER regret buying a Miata. The price quoted on the Soltice is wrong. It's much higher now and more than a Miata. BTW: The Miata has a decent,but small, trunk with the top up or down.

@455Transam I made a decision to buy my first real sports car and was set on the Soltice (I had an HHR I had bought new). But I read 2 driver reports that panned it. As a retired engineer,it's all about performance, reliability, and track record for me. I have no image to protect or image to create. I had faster cars in my faster days. The Soltice is,in my opinion, the prettiest production car I've seen, but it's design is inept.

@meemoonses I haven't read ANY report that "panned" it. I've read some reports that said the steering was vauge but others that said it was tight and precise...so it depends on the test driver. Most reports I've read/heard think it's a great deal for the money. The SOLSTICE is the best looking sports car for the money IMOP and there's no such thing as the PERFECT sports car anyway.

I'll buy a SOLSTICE someday.

The reporter admitted that the example he had driven had been raced just before the test. He was given another new production model and noted a big improvement in the suspension. It's all about the top with me. I would love it if they would just fix that damn top.If you get one,get used to people telling you "That's a nice car!" They say that about my Miata after 3 years!

I read on CNN's website about a month ago that DELOREAN is talking about bringing back the Solstice! Honestly, and it looks pretty cool. Supposed to be next year or 2012. I have the a dark grey convertible Solstice and LOVE IT! I will never get rid of it. The sweetest ride I've even experienced. Really, really sweet.

This video is complete crap. Here's a tip: any video relying on a "hot" presenter with exposed cleavage probably has VERY QUESTIONABLE value, and this video proves it.

The MX-5 is 400Lbs LIGHTER than the Solstice, while the Solstice (non GXP VERSION) produces only 7 more HP.

And guess what? The MX-5 is FASTER, despite what this dumb bitch says. Why? Weight and better gearing on the MX-5. Just check Edmunds comparison video here on Youtube.

the MX5 has been out for 20 years. They have had all the time in the world to perfect it, so of course its gonna be a little more refined. The Solstice is no slouch by any means when it comes to handling and the GXP model with the 2.0L turbo 4cylinder from the Cobalt SS puts out 260hp and 260lb-ft of torque which is almost 100hp more. Add a Cold air intake, and there, you have about 275hp in a 2800lb RWD Sports car. The GXP gets to 60mph in 5.4 secs, faster than any RWD sports car in its class
