I saw a series of books at Barnes and Noble about 3 yrs ago, each on a President and a compilation of his speeches. THIS June 1963 speech at AU was NOT in the book on Kennedy's speeches. Maddening. It's the best speech he ever gave, and he was gone 5 months later. Even better than his inaugural IMO.
i think this speech was a calling card for what many political groups and countercultures of the 60s were fighting for. however, i believe they took JFK's vision to the extreme.
Sure, it is Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6.0. I think an improved version 7.0 has been released. They have many flavors of editing software, but this one is the cheapest at about $95 USD and you can download directly from their site.
It was fairly easy for me to pick up and I am constantly discovering new capabilities that it has.
Oh, that's cool. Expected Avid or Final Cut Pro :) yeah you learn alot by editing those kind of things. I love the classic "slow pan&zoom on still images". It has a very powerful impact.
It is modestly priced and seems to be well suited to my limited skills and requirements.
It is funny you said 'slow' pan and zoom. I look back on this video now and wish that I had used a little 'slower' panning and zooming on some images. I got a little to aggressive with some of them.
:) I don't think you should regret anything in the video, the speed on the zooming is fair enough, considering the quantity of material included. In other words, good joob!
...and THAT was why he was whacked by a "lone gunman." You can't have guys with a vision like that running the most powerful military in the world, can you?
I have read that the CIA was involved with the assasination of JFK and that the senior Bush was in the CIA at that time. JFK had planned to eliminate the CIA as he felt it was too powerful. Why does violence and evil always seem to prevail? I was 21 when he was assasinated and it was one of the saddest days of my life, and millions of others. The same for his brother, Robert. Tears. notcomotose
I was drawn to this post by the still image of the girl in the face-painted peace sign. Such intensity, disappointment, and resolve. I'd love to know who took the picture and who the girl was.
MadMustard: Please also add into your video Kennedy's most bold statements (from the exact same speech at AU): "While we proceed to safeguard our national interests, let us also safeguard human interests. And the ELIMINATION OF WAR AND ARMS is clearly in the interest of both. The United States, as the world knows, WILL NEVER START A WAR. We do not want a war. We do not now expect a war."
In the original video I included both portions that you mentioned. A combination of fatigue and a shortage of ideas for good accompanying images caused me to edit it out. Maybe I will revisit it in the future; this one and my first video are my favorites.
MadMustard: Please also add into your video Kennedy's most bold statements (from the exact same speech at AU): "Our primary long range interest in Geneva, however, is GENERAL AND COMPLETE DISARMAMENT, designed to take place by stages, permitting parallel political developments to build the new institutions of peace which would TAKE THE PLACE OF ARMS."
MadMustard: Please also add into your video Kennedy's most bold statements (from the exact same speech at AU):
"In short, both the United States and its allies, and the Soviet Union and its allies, have a mutually deep interest in a just and genuine peace and in HALTING THE ARMS RACE!
At the time I wanted to exclude references to the USSR so that it would have a contemporary tone. Since posting it, tensions have again arisen with Russia that could make it relevant again.
Peace is lovely, and ensured by strength. Weakness is provocative. The Armenians were peaceful, and weak, and slaughtered by the Ottoman Turks. A useful example, as it had nothing to do with the US per se. Just human nature.
Kennedy was eloquent but he basically had the same plan as Reagan. He cut taxes and built up the military to create a fake prosperity. He claimed a fake "missle gap" that dramatically escalated the danger of nuclear war.
Very true. It's sad that when you hear speeches like this and then as you say, when his policies (or the policies of his administration) did exactly the opposite.
It seems civilised and reasonable talk from a civilised and reasonable man. My dear American friends; will you please use your voices and your votes to ensure that your next president is a civilised and reasonable one?
Thank you Calistro, no I haven't made any more like this one. You can find a treasure trove of material at millercenter(dot)virginia(dot)edu and look under 'Scripps Library'. That is where I downloaded this speech in mp3 format. They have many speeches from many different presidents.
Hello again, you should try uploading this video again in higher quality :-)

If only the current administration will use this as a model of what their policy should encompass, then we would be much better off...

Contrast this, if you will with the rantings of G. W. Bush!

One of the greatest speeches by one of the greatest presidents. Kennedy wrote a lot of his own speeches and was a genious.
