this football/soccer thing has gone too far. i HATE the term 'soccer', it's football ffs. when i go on youtube or any search engine, i have to type soccer to get the right sport.... depressing.
If Your Interested in soccer and wanna Become a pro check out "TheSoccerEssentials" where you can find videos and other helpful tips to help u get to a professinal level.
Try searching an British coach instead, they will give you more of an idea rather than "if you can shoot then shoot" thats basics that i learnt when i was 5 xD
if u do not have a shot, could u explain when a good shot is lol!? u should have stated that keeping your head up is key in finding whether u have a shot or not:)
@xGA1x yea, because if he said football it wouldn't be confusing... In america if you say you're a football coach for 10 years and you really coached soccer... that's called lying.
@theandy4ever You'd be surprised how many players are out there and don't know the simplest of stuff. Some stuff is so simple, yet so critical that coaches don't bother to teach it.
Oh my God...how bad is this?!!!..interesting the way he says he is 'ex pro' at the start!....and then just so we don`t forget he says it again at the end!!!...a major contributory factor to why so many American youth soccer players are NOT maximizing their potential is becuse of the egotistical coach who is more concerned about their reputation and win-loss record, rather than the development of individual players....this guy is the archeytypal American coach who cares more about his ego
@mairsy100 Or, he's learned that when you give a lesson it helps to present your credentials so people will be more apt to listen to you. Note how he also repeats his lesson, not just that he was an ex-pro. It sounds to me as though he's simply using the traditional speech technique of, "Tell them what you're going to tell them, thell them it, and then tell them what you just told them." Along with presenting his credentials.
@jackj1959 Your entitled to your opinion but I am currently writing a book with a coaching colleague, in Syracuse USA, and a major part of this book is looking into the issue of ego-involved coaches who care more for their winning reputation and flaunting their 'credentials' rather than the individual development of players...this guy is typical of the dozens of 'fakers' I have encountered in th U.S coaching soccer...not only was he an ex-pro, so he claims, but it was for 10 YEARS..WOW!!!
@mairsy100 I'm not surprised that you're writing a book on this, as I was thinking that your comment was indicative of a human trait we all have of seeing what we want/expect to see in a situation; it's called Confirmation Bias, and something we all must be cognizant of.Always ask, "Is it possible there's another explanation for this?"And, he's been a "youth coach for 10 years", not a pro. Again, this establishes credentials.Do you disagree that it does, or that they're important when teaching
@jackj1959 Oh yeh my apologies, he said he`s been a coach for 10 years!...very impressive!..actually, my comments are indicative of an individual who has been around this type of 'coach' for 12 years in Syracuse, USA.....You see, many players are not being provided with the necessary motivational climate within youth soccer, in the U.S, partly down to the fact that coaches are more concerned with their ego and credentials rather than placing player development as the foremost objective
@jackj1959 My intuition, expericence and knowledge of youth soccer tells me this guy is second rate...that`s my view and it will not alter from what I see here...10 years being a youth soccer coach proves nothing in terms of credentials..I would rather have an inexperienced coach who has spent less than a year in the game, but places the emphasis on player development and learning ahead of winning and espousing their 'credentials`!. I`m afraid you can leave your confirmation bias theory alone!
@mairsy100 I'm not even disputing your concerns and observations "out there" in youth soccer. My son's playing, and I obviously have a concern in that regard, too. My point is simply that you can't judge this guy's motivation or quality based on the fact that he states his experience. That's ludicrous. Particularly when there's a legitimate explanation separate from your theory, and if you've studied either public speaking or coaching, like it or not, stating one's credentials is encouraged.
@mairsy100 Logic, PLEASE! Bec. egotistical coaches tout credentials does NOT mean that all coaches who tout credentials are bad! Dismiss Confirmation Bias if you'd like, but it's at your own (and others') peril. It's created misjudgments in politics, as people see "the other side" as doing all bad stuff and theirs doing none.
No offense, but I'll take critical thinking- incl. filtering out confirmation bias - over your "intuition" any day. I hope you don't ever rely on your intuition as a juror
@jackj1959 Human beings have a wonderful filter, which is called intuition...sure, it`s not always going to be right...but I tell you something, rather than trying to pigeon-hole beliefs or behaviours into specific scientific theories, I started to put more trust into my personal intuition because, believe me, it has paid off more ofen than not....I trust my personal intuition and you may choose not to, which is your choice..but I have conviction about what this 'ex-pro' brings to the table
@mairsy100 What's been lost in all this is he's not coaching kids here; he's demonstrating skills. And there, experience matters, and ego doesn't. My point was that this guy putting out his credentials as an ex-pro and experienced youth coach is not enough to conclude that he's an egotistical coach who doesn't care about players. That's all. If your intuition works for you, follow it. But you shouldn't base conclusions and accusations on public forums (or in trials) on it; one must use facts.
i believe these are all obvious.. SUPPOSEDLY.. But most players forget this when they are inside the pitch... He just kinda reminds us what we should really do..
Well, im pretty sure this is only intended for little kids who just started playing. Definitely not going to show it to a high school soccer team since a 15, 16 year old already knows the basic of soccer long time ago. High school soccer players should be looking into deep strategies.
