She was born into a wealthy family and became a typical self-loathing Japanese preferring the company of foreigners to Japanese people. If there wasn't a rich family to back up her "art" she would have never became famous... I'm not saying that I don't enjoy some of her work, but she' privileged and spoiled and people shouldn't forget that when they judge her work.
This film is beautiful. It is true. We are all made of dots. Yayoi Kusama expresses a part of the human heart that no one else can through her work, and in doing so, she inspires us to express our hearts through what we choose to do.
Thank you for posting this. Does anyone know, is she still living in a mental hospital, or did she back into private residence at some point? Because, last I heard (which was a retrospective at NYC's Museum of Modern Art during the late '90s), I'm pretty sure she was confined in a relatively comfortable Japanese hospital and doing all her artwork from there.
How did you get this onto the computer? Was the film ...filmed with a digital format? Questions abound where answers are found. I've got a dvd about Winston Hardy, the chanter and ham I call a dad:) I'll have to find it first and find how to post it after.
when i first saw her work, i was like blank, i dont understand what makes her polka dots so special, eveyone can draw polka dots. i was really curious, so i started to search
and examine her art works, i still dont get it, but i guess i'm starting to like it, she's very unique and brave.

We must all leave our own imprints of dots.

Do you have the bibliographic info for this film by chance? I'd like to reference it in a speech I'm working on.

from Google, apparently she's still lives in a mental hospital out of her own free will, and works at a studio nearby
