An 8 string is supposed to be treated as more of a groove instrument. I'm tired of seeing people going to 8 strings so they can go to "UBER BROOTAL" lows. The truth is...tremelo picking or even galloping patterns sounds like ASS. the low F# is supposed to be treated more like a bass string, its mostly for groove purposes.
Seriously... Dino is an idiot and a failed guitarist... why can't you get someone good like Tosin Abasi?... All Dino is good at is chugging away w/ powerchords on the lowest strings, repeating the exact same rhythms throughout each and every song in every band he's ever played in.
Trust me, that is not a good way to market a product that was designed so that a player can utilize every single string to create music, not just the lowest 3.
@majorkeybaree It used to rock, but not when you use it every song. AC/DC rocked, and they used simple chord progressions, but they would have seriously sucked if they used the exact same progression in each and every song instead of switching it up like they do. And never once have I said that, and never onced have I claimed to be a "tough metal guy" so stop making childish assumptions.
Oh, and that last bit was pretty ridiculous, as well.
@Oneofthefallen67 you should buy a guitar to make some music , and this is what dino, tosin and all the other great guitarists of the world are doing^^
Hey I really want an eight string guitar. The schecter is way cheaper but I heard has a really thick and chunky neck. Is there that much of a difference between schecter and Ibanez? Opinions anyone? I could use the help.
Good god shut up about tosin already.. dino might not be as technical as him but he writes better songs... Listening to someone show off the whole time gets old... Like the great dimebag darrell once said simple can be lethal...
hey! tomorrow i'm gonna buy this guitar. i have a question: i have searched for some 8-string sets on the internet and i've only found an ernie ball set; the problem is that the gauge is 0.10 and I play 0.9... does anybody know if there are some 0.9 eight string sets? and if not, where can i find a string wich is big enough? i don't wanna use bass strings because the magnetism does not work exactly like guitar strings and it would sound quite bad... any advice? thank you guys!
@ReleasingWeeps, if you go on d'addario's website you can order a 6 string set or a 7 string set then pick out an individual one for the 8th string. That way you can get pretty much whatever gauge you want
Does Dino even use the other 5 strings on it? Those... erm.. chops of his aren't the best things ever. you can tell his hand is used to one single shape. lol. And just listening to Ishan's stuff, NOTHING good comes from northern europe. Except Meshuggah.
you dont just buy an 8 string to have lower sound, you buy higher gauge string and tune it down, 8 string has a lot of potential, this guy does not need one, he looks like an idiot with that guitar
@jon1151 This idea that extra strings are only advantageous for virtuoso lead players is elitist bullshit. Did it ever occur to you that maybe he would also need to be able to play the songs that were written for 6 or 7 stringed instruments in standard tuning? Its a fucking hell of alot more versatile instrument, and only one possessed of a weak mind would not recognize the sonic possibilities afford by an eight string
Dino is a bad representative for the 8 string. You shouldn't buy an 8 string so you can tune super low, you should buy it for the amazing potential it has, look as Tosin Abasi.
@Oneofthefallen67 actually Tosin Abasi wasnt around when the eight String came out. and the point of the 8 string when it came out was because of Meshuggah. and guys like Dino. and if thats the style Dino wants then the 8 string is prerfect for him:S
I think its up to the user how they regard their tool. It's perfectly logical the way Dino looks at the 8 string guitar for down tuning potential. And you realize that Tosin plays in a "Super low" dropped tuning too correct ? Mr. Abasi considers the 8 string a guitar with a lot of strings. Nothing more. Nothing less. I don't understand why this generation of guitarists regards the 8 string as some mystical instrument
@Oneofthefallen67 Fuck not another guy talking about Tosin Abasi . Dont get me wrong Tosin is a great player but fuck , Dino and Tosin play different styles of music , and I honestly prefer Dino over Tosin
Divine hersey is such a great band! i mean dino with tim youeng. . . .great muscians indeed! they did a really great job on the album bleed the fifth. . but what really killed the band is the vocalist :s he just doesnt fit in the band! he is horrible vocalist :s other than that they r beasts!
My Guitar Choice Is Peavey, But Since They Don't Make 8 Strings, I'll Have To Choose An Ibanez!! Schecter, ESP And LTD Make Them Too, But I Don't Like Those Brands!!!
@DylanBStringer91 your lucky your not a lefty player only schecter make extended range lefties and there not available in places like the UK. I'm sure you choul'd addapt because right-handed people have so much choice
Dino makes some good and interesting riffs, but it seems the only reason he can come up with for why he plays an 8 string is so he can sound heavier and he doesn't seem that educated about 8 strings and what you can really do with them, he almost stuttered when he was talking about what each string is tuned to. I'm not familiar with his music, but I'm pretty sure he would've been fine, if not even better if he stuck with a 7 string. Ihsahn on the other hand makes much more good use with an 8.
@Oneofthefallen67 Yeah, he's kind of the person who buys an 8 string and only uses 6 strings. He could've bought higher gauge strings. There's some bands that tune down that low but they play 6 strings. :P
I think Dino is great. Met him a couple times, really nice guy.
But, someone needs to tell these guys accusing 6-strings of becoming "floppy", that their 7-strings are the SAME SCALE LENGTH!! If the string gauges are the same, the tension is the same.
@TimJMorrison I often use a Dugain Standug made of box tree wood. It's about 3/8 inch thick plays and sounds very tight and the attack and the punch is killer....
Wow....for an official video they don't give the sponsored musician much respect do they? By tagging this w/ Ihsahn they really stretch the limits, since he is in it for a second or two. And then they mis-title an Emperor song at the end; which also displays a lack of tack since a track from one of Ihsahn's solo records would be much more appropriate.
how do they use the tremolo if it doesnt have a whammy bar? cause i know it fixes but i know you can bend it with your hand like you can a regular double locking tremolo without a whammy bar... what im getting to is why did they put a friggin tremolo on there if you cant really use it?!? cause i mean even if its a good double locking trem if you cant use it why is it on there?
Dino has really upped his playing on teh new album. Whereas he used to really just chug away, now he solos more and has really stepped his game up IMO. Besides personally I find it better to use 7s or 8s because tuning that low feels uncomfortable on the narrower neck of a 6 string.
@MetalHybrid yeah, imagine him playing an S series. LOL. no offense to him, but he REALLY IS a fat guy. he's a killer player, though, so that makes up for it.
Okay, the obvious bullshit aside, how are the frequencies too low?... Dino's tuning is a whole step /higher/ than that of a 4-string bass guitar, and those are easily heard, so you negated your previous point... If /you/ actually knew how to play, you'd know that bass guitars, pianos, cellos and several other instruments are entire /octaves/ lower than this guitar and yet can still be heard without any trouble...
The problem is with the overall register of the song. If all of the instruments are in those ultra low registers with little else in the mid-range to balance it out, you end up in "tonic ambiguity", where the ear can't tell the difference between whole and half-step intervals. Regardless, you end up with tonic ambiguity anyway as you continually drop in register.
@deathcore1239 hahahahaha what so you can play 1 chord and so that you have to tuning down heaps so that somehow that makes you feel like your technical
@deathcore1239 Silly deathcore kid, if you knew how to use 6 string guitars other than for heavy music...maybe then you would appreciate the guitar and music in general, I tune down my 6-string to Drop-B sounds heavy as hell and there is not much of string tension issue for me since my Ibanez was made to handle drop tunings.
@deathcore1239 Even then I feel like something is missing, I like playing heavy stuff and thats why I tune my guitar down but then sometimes I feel like playing a good ol' regular tuned guitar then I have to tune it back up to Standard E......so uhhh yea I need more strings to solve this problem of always having to tune, hopefully a 7-string Ibanez will do the job if not then I guess I need an 8-string.
The tuning basically repeats itself, but to be able to play barre and power chords with the same fingering as a 6- or 7-string, the 8th string was dropped a half-step (since there are 4 semitones between G and B instead of 5)
I Know what he means, but how would it help with 8 strings? U get a really cool sound with low floppy tuning, and lots of disortion, kinda sounds like motor problems:D
Not to mention you can only get thicker and thicker strings to a certain point with a 6-string, you eventually either need a 7th/8th string or to shave the nut
ibanez is just going all out man, next thing you'll know is that they will come out with an 8-string xiphos with 28-frets. i likd what they are doing, that is why they are my favorite guitar company. gibson and fender just like doing the same traditional guitars and not coming up with new body shapes...and yes making a robot guitar is not breaking away from the traditional. whats so cool about a guitar that can tune itself? nothing
the nine string; for those of you that want that low, low... low end crunch that makes people in the third world bleed for no reason other than the fact that its METAL!
yeah that solo by dino sucked, but he is absoloutely sick at writing riffs. his fear factory and divine heresy work is just insane. he manages to make simple things sound so cool
they discontinued it when too many people contracted flesh eating herpies. I tried it and the string was like, all floppy anyway. little too loose if you know what i mean.
you have no clue what i was speaking in reference to. it was in regards to some comment some dude made about a Paris Hilton signiture guitar. chill out.
An 8 string is supposed to be treated as more of a groove instrument. I'm tired of seeing people going to 8 strings so they can go to "UBER BROOTAL" lows. fuck 6 strings standard tuning and D is for pussies. i play 7 took it down a step to A and love it 6 strings are good for C and drop C thats it
deathcore1239 1 year ago
It takes a real man to make E standard sound heavy.
builditwithlegos 1 year ago 3
I feel the same way.. But that doesn't mean I avoid playing on my 7th and 8th string.
Moozart 1 year ago
By all means. I love the low end stuff too, but when you play in E and you're heavy, you're pretty darn heavy.
builditwithlegos 1 year ago
@deathcore1239 And that makes you more Metal than everyone else? Sure thing dude.
Dimebag08RIP 1 year ago
@deathcore1239 hahahahaha what so you can play 1 chord and so that you have to tuning down heaps so that somehow that makes you feel like your technical
guitaristman23 1 year ago
@guitaristman23 nope makes me feel like im playing low and heavy. who said i was trying to be technical?
deathcore1239 1 year ago
@deathcore1239 Silly deathcore kid, if you knew how to use 6 string guitars other than for heavy music...maybe then you would appreciate the guitar and music in general, I tune down my 6-string to Drop-B sounds heavy as hell and there is not much of string tension issue for me since my Ibanez was made to handle drop tunings.
TooleralusAEnima 1 year ago
@deathcore1239 Even then I feel like something is missing, I like playing heavy stuff and thats why I tune my guitar down but then sometimes I feel like playing a good ol' regular tuned guitar then I have to tune it back up to Standard E......so uhhh yea I need more strings to solve this problem of always having to tune, hopefully a 7-string Ibanez will do the job if not then I guess I need an 8-string.
TooleralusAEnima 1 year ago
@deathcore1239 LOL you have got to be no older than 16
Hateeternal2009 1 year ago
@Hateeternal2009 your right, im only 16. what does that have to do with anything prick?
deathcore1239 1 year ago
@deathcore1239 I like to see you tell James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine Standard tuning is for pussies.....go away bitch boy
Hateeternal2009 1 year ago
@Hateeternal2009 yea i hate metallica and megadeth so suck my dick
deathcore1239 1 year ago
that's bullshit!
Megamultikiller 2 years ago
wait.. hes been experimenting with 7 strings with low tunings..
is he tuning that 8 string too ?
hattbroz 2 years ago
ummm low low E idk haha
weemankyle 2 years ago
He went through the tuning already...
F#-B-E-A-D-G-B-e...
The tuning basically repeats itself, but to be able to play barre and power chords with the same fingering as a 6- or 7-string, the 8th string was dropped a half-step (since there are 4 semitones between G and B instead of 5)
hyuugaamida 2 years ago
i know thats what he said. but i meant that if he started tuning those lower.
weemankyle 2 years ago
Well if he drops it a step he'd be tuned the same as Meshuggah. No one's gone passed the octave drop before...
hyuugaamida 2 years ago
im sure somebody has, just not that we know of
weemankyle 2 years ago
Yeah, its just follows the circle of flats, then compensates at the B, but yeah. Sorry, just wanted to add on a little more. XD
FastbackGTOne1 2 years ago
holy shit he plays that wayyy to high

robvk6 2 years ago
how does he get*
AncientEmerald 2 years ago
yeah its a pedal of some sort. Ive always liked that riff. its from the song savior self by divine heresy
zach7000 2 years ago
Whoa, he does he get the that guitar sound at 2:45 to 3:04? Is it an effect paddle or something?
AncientEmerald 2 years ago
8 strings :O it is funny
edominant7add9 2 years ago
waht does he mean by floppy tension?
Kadadj 2 years ago
like when you just turn the string tension down to create a lower tone, the string flaps around too much and bangs on the fret board
try it
turn 6th sting really low
bmxsid 2 years ago
I Know what he means, but how would it help with 8 strings? U get a really cool sound with low floppy tuning, and lots of disortion, kinda sounds like motor problems:D
Kadadj 2 years ago
ahah yeh ive always likedd that sound.
and
they add another string so you can tune it lower
they just put a thicker guage string on the 7th or 8th string.
so instead of it being a low tuning and floppy-ness
they can have the right tension and have it a low tuning because thicker strings naturally have a lower tune.
you could just stick a thicker guage strings on a 6 string g-tar but then you loose your high e and what not
bmxsid 2 years ago
Not to mention you can only get thicker and thicker strings to a certain point with a 6-string, you eventually either need a 7th/8th string or to shave the nut

man...
Ibanez will make a 20-string and 38-fret guitar .-.
Why so many strings?
7 is already too much...
carlosalbertolira 2 years ago
ibanez is just going all out man, next thing you'll know is that they will come out with an 8-string xiphos with 28-frets. i likd what they are doing, that is why they are my favorite guitar company. gibson and fender just like doing the same traditional guitars and not coming up with new body shapes...and yes making a robot guitar is not breaking away from the traditional. whats so cool about a guitar that can tune itself? nothing
TooleralusAEnima 2 years ago 4
8 string xiphos with 28 frets... holy god damn. if they ever make that i might peel my own eyes out of sheer happiness
boz211 2 years ago
i've started waiting for a nine string! if anybody is gonna do it, it'll be ibanez.
beyer37 2 years ago 2
the nine string; for those of you that want that low, low... low end crunch that makes people in the third world bleed for no reason other than the fact that its METAL!
GimmeMyGibson 2 years ago 2
THis is fucking win. Give it 10 years... haha
ScreamingBloodyGore 2 years ago
Korn came out with a K8 recently. Munky rarely uses it though...

that Dino Cazares solo sucked, i know i can do better than that noise.
but yet there's people that give Rusty Cooley a hard time.
Ihsahn on the other hand is a genius.
anyone loving his new solo album?
modevotion1 2 years ago 4
yeah that solo by dino sucked, but he is absoloutely sick at writing riffs. his fear factory and divine heresy work is just insane. he manages to make simple things sound so cool
shredder370 2 years ago 3
yeah, i guess i could agree with that.
but he's not even in contention with Ihsahn when it comes to songwriting and composing.
modevotion1 2 years ago 2
yeah, hadn't actually checked out Ihsahn's music until just before. he's really decent!
shredder370 2 years ago
lol now ibanez made a 9 string hybrid... hhaha how low can they go!
Rhaabjorn 2 years ago
i have the 7 string guitar of munky!
it really kicks ass
hardcorepiss 2 years ago 2
it always seems to be heavier guys playing 8 strings...this guy, the guitarist from deftones..
Aginor27 3 years ago
dino cazares, and stephen carpenter is in deftones. yeah i agree with you

they discontinued it when too many people contracted flesh eating herpies. I tried it and the string was like, all floppy anyway. little too loose if you know what i mean.
GimmeMyGibson 2 years ago
shut the fuck up....theres no proof that you play any guitar bitch
Turbocharge1000 2 years ago
you have no clue what i was speaking in reference to. it was in regards to some comment some dude made about a Paris Hilton signiture guitar. chill out.
