An experienced/ lead hound would have snapped its windpipe as soon at it reached it, resulting in a quick death once cought. Once dead the hounds get excited and mouth it.

You cannot excuse every kill by saying they were 'inexperienced hounds'. Look at the internet, there's no excuse no to educate yourself, the fox has no neck injuries, but as most are, is chewed and/or disembowelled by the pack. They don't wait to ask if the fox is dead first! You'll be saying the fox also removed his own tail to!
