@AABBeCakezzz Is better if you buy seagate momentus since it is the ps3 HDD providers...since the stock ps3 HDD is a Seagate 2.5 inch SATA 5400 rpm..you can buy an upgrade as long as it is the same inches :D

what you now have is a stripped screw. you will need to buy some tools to get it out, google "how to get a stripped screw out" to figue out how to get it.your working on a ps3 so you will need to buy tools built for the small screw and be very careful oryou might damage your ps3. hope i helped!

the hard drive has to be SATA or Serial ATA. you might also need to format your hard drive to FAT32 format. you can look up how to do that on youtube, because its easier to explain in a video than in 500 characters.the hard drive also must be 2.5 inches. you can tell if its the right size if it is the same size as the one already in the ps3.hope i helped!

Sweet video, so if you back up all your games and even the data that canno be removed from your hard drive, does it also back up all your tophies you have earned in each game? Because what i did was I saved some game files onto my external and transfered it to a new Login and loaded it onto there but all my trophies and what not were gone and wouldn't load.

The screws that mount the actual HDD to the metal bracket are like clay. The strip instantly. I got ONE out successfully. You've been warned...

Yeah, I did get the rest out. I used plyers to turn the rest of them out. I tightened them to the new HDD by hand. That way if I ever have to get them out again I won't have this problem

Just stay away from SAMSUNG 500GB [ HM500JI ]!!

I installed mine in December and started getting problems with desync'd in disc based games.

For example in Uncharted during the pre-rendered scenes, the audio would pause for a fraction of a second. Then it would start over again where it skipped causing the remaining portion of the cut scene to play out of sync which was disappointing for such an amazing game!

Then I figured I'd throw the original 80GB hdd back in. PROBLEM SOLVED.

Trophies are bound to your psn, so no. Backwards compability, I don't know but it should not. Game data can be transferred and downloads can be re downloaded (5 times only).

first of all it you have the old ps3 with backwards campatibility thats all in ur blue-ray drive,trophies will be on your PSN account so u need 2 just sign in and they will b there, it will delete ur game data and dwonloads so try to transfer the save games to a flash drive, you can redownload your downloads,

No, a hard drive does not provide backwards compatibility.

The earlier versions of the PS3 contained the 'Emotion Engine' that the PS2 had, which provided backwards compatibility.

Changing your hard drive will ONLY increase your memory capacity.
