The time for an Energy Revolution is long over due as we should have had this technology to make use of water as source of fuel back in 1985. Only time will tell how far the damage to the Gulf was done by this Corexit sprayed on us by BP when the stuff has been banned in their own country for use. The technology to make use of water as a source of fuel is out in the open now, so let the energy revolution begin!

Add the cost of enviromental damage to the cost of oil and I'd bet alternatives are already cheaper.
We can solve all this and so much more. It will require the complete redesign of our culture, and not the useless and temporary patch-work we have been trying to add to an inherently corrupt system.

For the most part, the people making the money have the strongest push in government (e.g. lobbying), or else they ensure the people sharing their views are directly running it. The reason this whole disaster occurred was because BP didn’t want to spend the money to maintain what was supposed to be multiple layers of precautions.

You're right - solar is expensive and I would expect converting my house to solar to be very costly and have a very long term payback. I'm not sure that means solar is not practical on a bigger (and more efficient?) scale though. Economies of scale help enormously.

I agree with his point which came out towards the end - the government should be protecting the public. A problem with this is that we're all tied up in the success of big corporations. We've all got shares; either directly or indirectly via pensions, and ISAs (individual savings accounts and whatever the US equivalent is).
I also agree that we could have clean energy and would happily accept the sacrifices for that (setting aside big areas of land for solar panel arrays, etc).

The time for an Energy Revolution is long over due as we should have had this technology to make use of water as source of fuel back in 1985. Only time will tell how far the damage to the Gulf was done by this Corexit sprayed on us by BP when the stuff has been banned in their own country for use. With that said, The Venus Project is the focus of the second film, and it poses a realistic solution to many of the problems in the world. I urge you to watch Addendum and give it a chance. It is NOT psuedoscience. :)

@dec041 I agree. The problem is that democracy is just an ideal but power doesn't come from ideas. Real tangible power comes from money. For the most part, the people making the money have the strongest push in government (e.g. lobbying), or else they ensure the people sharing their views are directly running it. The reason this whole disaster occurred was because BP didn’t want to spend the money to maintain what was supposed to be multiple layers of precautions.

Of course the manufacturing and production takes an investment but once it’s done it won’t require a constant supply of coal or oil. The same is true for a powerplant. The argument against their use is that in fact they are not cost efficient at all and are potentially so destructive that we have to find alternatives as soon as humanly possible. If you want to argue with this, provide scientific evidence.

Big oil already knows about water engines. A simple conversion can make your car run on water. Search video on Daniel Dingel or Dingle, etc. That dolphin at the boat story made me cry like a baby. I feel powerless over what's happened down there. Hydrogen is the fuel of the future. It's NOT dangerous anymore than gas. The lies are spread by big oil. People start investigating alternatives for yourself. Ultimately all the fuel we'll need comes from the Sun. It gives to us freely. No metering.

@agent008hammer You are very confused. BTU's are the typical unit of measurement for combustables, Kilowatts is the typical measure for electrical energy. So commenting on the BTU's of solar, wind or nuclear is nonsensical.
The current cost of oil does not represent the true impact because we are deferring economic costs to future generations in the form of pollution and depleted reserves.

You're right - solar is expensive and I would expect converting my house to solar to be very costly and have a very long term payback. I'm not sure that means solar is not practical on a bigger (and more efficient?) scale though. Economies of scale help enormously.
Digging my garden for oil is not practical!

@agent008hammer First off, you put the solar panels in desert region. I'm from the UK, but in the US, Nevada could host some good solar arrays without loss to flora, fauna, and bugs. As for what you've gained? First, you have a renewable source of energy, and second with less risks to life (and wildlife) for exploiting that energy (compared to offshore oil).

It's interesting that the very human lives that are impacted by the oil leak (fishermen, vacation beach hotel owners, etc..) are they themselves only made possible by the oil. Likely 95% of the people living around the gulf, are part of the oil/gas economy. The fisherman catches fish to feed the oilman.
Left, right, liberal, conservative, we all need our oil "fixes" desperately. There's no way to get the oil out without risking these sorts of leaks. Risks can be reduced, not eliminated.

I totally agree.
Booms are totally useless on the open sea; the USA should have accepted the skimmers from other countries, and BP should NOT have used dispercent.
Then the oil would have been ON the water, and not IN it.
There have been a lot of countries who offered skimmers for free, but the USA didn't accept it.
Its a disgrace.

I agree with his point which came out towards the end - the government should be protecting the public. A problem with this is that we're all tied up in the success of big corporations. We've all got shares; either directly or indirectly via pensions, and ISAs (individual savings accounts and whatever the US equivalent is).
I also agree that we could have clean energy and would happily accept the sacrifices for that (setting aside big areas of land for solar panel arrays, etc).
