True, it does seem that Fantasy writers can take more liberties with where their magic system comes from, but hardcover fantasy readers demand it just as they do in science fiction. My series combines the two main genres, so I must define where and how my magic system works. With how difficult it is to differentiate oneself from the pack, being detailed about the magic system is a must-do step in my opinion. :)
I think of twilight as an urban fantasy. But there are various kinds, like soft sci-fi that deals with more of the mental aspects of the human mind than with physical science which encompasses hard sci-fi.
