"Yes, I use this thing now to record my TV shows."
Same here! Someone gave me a broken Sony SL-HF600 SuperBeta Hi-Fi VCR with over 100 beta tapes. A new IC in the power supply and a gear in the cassette loading mechanism got it working again!
Oddly enough, it's the only working VCR that I own now. Plus, I don't have the money for a DVR right now (I'm currently in college); therefore, my Betamax actually gets programmed to record shows.
no matter wich device i want to open,those screws are really ticht,to make matters worse some screws getting so really damage that i can,t contineu screw out those screws aarrggg!!! as then soon willi realize that it was all just a wastle of energy,frustration & time !!!!!!
i got i off craigslist for $20 because it needed new belts and it needed a pulley were the big gear with teeth that pulls the tape in and wraps it around the head
i had to get one out of a old sanyo beta that would not do anything
it works now but i dont use it to much do you think i should run it once in a while to keep the belts from going bad.
Yes, it's good to keep them running once in a while. Mine has no belts, so it's ok to sit, but still, I like to keep them running a little. I have found yesterday though that the tape cassettes themselves are dangerous when old. There's friction pads that come lose and can get into the system and cause damage. MUST be careful of those!
Oh, and yea yea, I know, it seems all Betas have a stationary video drum with rotating inner unlike VHS. I didn't realize that. Learned something new.
FAMILY GUY is on Adult Swim?
I watch this on BBC3!

seems that the beta player pulls out the tape much more than a vhs casset vcr would

Whats funny is that half of my class does not know how to work a VCR even though they were born in the 90's.

@junkers1337
If they were born in 90s, that means they are in DVD era.
DVD were first introduced in 1996 and became popular in 2000s.

That "tape stabilizer disc" is what's known as an impedance roller.
