I breed them in my tap water: pH 7.4, TDS 250 ppm, GH 7-8, KH 12-14 One of the nice things about working with tank strains of this species is that they are not slaves to soft water. They do like heat though. No joy until I cranked the temps up to 78.
I have some Nannostomus eques (hocky stick pencil fish) in there as dithers. They are not aggressive enough to get the fry. I breed these in my tap water: pH 7.6, TDS 250 ppm, GH 6-8, KH 12-14 Temp 78 (rams like it warm). I do not like fast tetras with rams because the fry spread out so much. Many would get eaten.
Hey Ted I was wondering do you have any other fish with that pair? Also would the fry survive if there were small tetras(cardinals) in with them? And one last question what are your water parameters for this tank?
Nice video. What kind of software do you use?

Cardinals are too quick and will eat a lot of the fry.

Thanks, Ted. So would cardinal tetras work as dithers in a tank with breeding German Blue Rams?

Most cichlids care for their fry, which is one reason they are such a popular group of fish.
I use a Canon Vixia.... love it! It has an automatic macro mode that permits the close ups.

Great video! What type of camera are you using to get such nice clear close ups? I have such a hard time getting good quality video of my fish.
