@catethulhu Wool is a biproduct of the meat production, the sheep itself is bread for its meat. Just look at the original sheep, with alot of wool and little meat. And the modern speep, with little wool and alot of meat.

You earn very little from selling the wool, so if you were to bread sheeps only for their wool, you would go bankrupt within the first month.

@hornvin That sounds a lot different from everything I've learned in Ag. I'm not going to disagree with you because I'm not an expert by any means. Are you a shepherd? Are they cross breeding Merinos and Rambouillets with other breeds more or are they focusing more on breeding Suffolks and the like then? I haven't found anything about it and I'm genuinely curious.

@catethulhu I live on a farm in Norway, where we have sheeps. So i can not tell you so much about how things are in other countries with different climate, different races, and different prize on wool. So you might be right, but i think all sheeps are used for meat eventually. We cut the wool from our sheeps twice a year, but this is mostly so that they wont feel so warm when they are inside.

But i think you are right when it comes to races as the merino sheep.
