I would just keep using the old capacitors until you start having problems. There's more risk in replacing capacitors than letting the old ones die out. The leaky capacitors really don't harm your components, they'll just create a little mess on the boards which is easy to clean up. Also those capacitors could keep working for years and by that time you could be moving onto other computers.
well replacing the caps is pretty easy for me, then as you said the leaky caps wouldnt be bad to keep in unless needed but I am think of upgrading it with about 1gb of ram(when I get the money) and installing osx leopard on it
and maybe a new hard drive
the best of luck to you if you try to replace the rest of the caps
i just got an emac for free and i have to replace 18 caps i have one on the monitier board to and 5 on the down converter the rest are all on the mother board is it worth it to fix
it a 1.25 ghz, 80 gb hd, 1 gb of ram, usb 2.0,and a super drive. also do you know were i can get kits to fix it
You might want to call them and try again. I received an eMac today--purchased new on 11-01-04--and after cajoling Apple support ("please, show me how much better you are than Dell, help me switch") they sent the board at no cost. aMac, eMac, iMac, oMac, and uMac are all affected.
Just get yourself some flux capacitors. They can withstand up to 1.21 gigawatts of power. However, Oedipus complexes have been fostered as a result of flux capacitor use. Use at own risk.
