  • Agnes Letestu ce'st magnifique! Isabelle Guerin is so beautiful, she is divine!!!

  • these dancers are beautiful but all three were off the music. that bothered me a lot.......the second girl.............eh.

  • I now understand the true meaning of jealousy.

  • i saw nothing wrong with the second girl. the second shade variation is the hardest. why don't you people leaving hater comments go try the variation your self. if you can do it any better let me know.

  • @WaccamawSingers truee!

  • Around 2:02 the second was a little off the music. I'm only nine, turning 10, and there was a summer intensive an I had to watch this, but then she was off :(

  • The first variation was danced by Agnès Letestu, now danseuse étoile at the Opéra Ballet, who has the beauty and control to dance the variation and make it look effortless, and explains her overall beauty and poetic qualities. I don't know when this was filmed, but I think at the time she was a première danseuse...

  • @Physdelicdreaming It was in 1994.

  • @sweetaliena dang a lot of these videos of professionals were done before i was even born!!!

  • hey she could of been filling in!

  • first girl was amazing and then the other 2 were good no matter wat anyone says the second one is good but i do agree that her releve arabesque was sort of bad

  • What any Y.T. member may comment, this for me, is uplifting, absolute magic, such beautiful music,I just love the way the camera fades the soloist & go's into close up on the feet positions, pure joy to view,Thanks for posting.

  • maraaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

  • I also like the Kirov choreoghraphy better. This tempo was really really slow.

  • P.O.B is amazing! i got to admit that the second girl was not good compared to the other 2 but she was still amazing!

  • The first one (Agnès Letestu) is perfect. The third is lovely. The second one is not good - she is supposed to travel at the final part but she stays where she is and at 2:29 the camera gave up and shows us the corps de ballet...

  • The second girl was not good but I thought the first and third were very nice.

  • well this is pretty old, they are really good for 1992. i mean, they are dancing amazingly with wayy less muscle than dancers have nowadays. :)

  • omg she runs on pointe! love it!!!...what is that called? in the sleepnig beauty fairy varations they also berae backwards as well

  • @pepercat17 pot-i-ca-roo ( not right spelling)

  • Maybe that was the choreography...

  • Yeah... Paris Opera Ballet... Not good...? You must be joking, right? The POB's Bayadere is superb.

  • music... ughhh.

  • ugh! this was painful to watch, sadly. especially the second girl, when she was doing her arabesque releves. this isn't as up to standard as i would have liked.

  • hate the arms!

  • my teacher is giving me gamzatti's variation! all those double posès! i'm trying really hard but landing the arabesque is sooo difficult!

  • as a dancer this is SO PAINFUL to watch. oi! i flinth every time they move! where is the technique and stamina of the paris opera ballet? it is defs not what it used to be!

  • I 100% agree...

Not up to standards at all....

  • at least they are better than you

  • The second one did those relevés at the end so badly that even the camera man noticed.

  • @maisumnomundo Yes its pretty bad when the best thing about your dancing is the corps standing in B plus.

  • @maisumnomundo why haha?

  • @maisumnomundo any dancer would know that the slightest change in weight placement or getting tired in the releves at the end of the second shade could get you stuck on the spot...as she became. once you get stuck the only thing you can do is to keep trying to go up and forward as she did.

  • i love la bayadere

  • they all have beautiful-beautiful! legs but the port de bras and epaulement seem a bit strange to me. Maybe it's part of their style.

  • I don't think they list songs for acts of ballet

  • what song is this?!

  • I love Paris Opera Ballet SOOOOO much, but the port de bras is pretty stiff... I probably would look much worse though =)

  • my ballet school is performing la bayadere tonight and they're making me do the 1st and 2nd shade!!! i was only supposed to dance the 2nd but the girl performing the 1st is sick...we have some differences though...we do it solo without the girls at the sides...i like this one too though... by the way, please wish me luck...im gonna need it

  • lol

  • Good luck!

  • The second one's hands and arms are driving me crazy. Really bad during the pirouettes! Love the first and third.

  • I did the first variation a few year ago for our production of Bayadere... I failed miserably compared to Agnes, haha.

  • I love the 1st slow-variation... I like the way she dances and how controled are her movements... =)

  • i did the third variation once at a summer intensive.. it was fun

  • damn that guy in the end takes my breath away! But he's.. too thin? I dont know, not used to that man-shape in ballet.

But his jumps are cool =P

  • i think im ganna do this for YAGP! I love it!!!! But i will have to ask my dance teacher. She is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This performance of probably the best i have ever seen,OMG, she is majic, what a balanced and certered ballerina, misically perfect, elegan.

  • i have to say. the second girl was not up to P.O.B. standard, she was behind the music and in the releve thingys at around 2:20 she looked really weak and was using her arms to help her get up on pointe. the first girl was amazing though, her control and lines and everything.

paris opera has the best corps i think, everyone is in sync and all have theire legs at the same height.

    Beautiful...

  • I dont know why, but we're thought thse very same variations and even for the second shadow its the same "delay". I think its awful, but .. seems to be part of it...

  • I agree about the second shade, the whole variation looked pretty weak. Maybe she was an understudy, and/or sick?

  • @hensster

I feel the same way. I did this variation for a competition and i had no problem with the arabesques once i stopped moving my arms too much. She should have thought of moving forward and she should keep her arms from flailing, it only takes more energy out of you that you need to get through all 16 releves

  • @hensster the second girl was not bad at all she has technique and nice performance qualities she just lacks in fitness which would explain her being out of time. Anyway "releve thingys" clearly your not up to the Paris Opera Ballet standard.

  • @hensster well the second girl WAS obviously up to P.O.B. standard otherwise she wouldn't have even been in P.O.B. and you have no right judging a dancer when you could not have done it any better. Dancers are people and we do have feelings. and your rude comment can esily get back to her.

  • @hensster The music might not have been synched to the video at that point

  • @hensster. Several years have passed since your comment, but today the Mariinsky has the finest corps anywhere. As for Letestu's variation, it was as fine as any that I have seen. The poor second girl, a veteran dancer, was simply having one of those bad nights. She is better than she showed here.

  • @hensster that first girl is Agnes Letestu! She was very young back then. You can see from this clip why she later became a principal dancer! Her third shade variation was my favourite

  • oh agnes. that control is mesmerizing....technique ALMOST on par with sylvie. breathtaking!

  • Its not ISABELLE GUERIN ! Its AGNES LETESTU...just for you to know...

  • hey does anyone know a slow variation thats nice, but not a principals one just a solist or soemthing? Thanks a lot.

  • Any of the variations from the second act of Giselle are beautiful.

  • troppo brava ..... e' la mia veriazione di quest'anno......

  • thank you sooo much for putting this on youtube! i have to learn the variation for the first shade and this just saved me :)

  • Does anyone know what the music to the first variation is called?

  • What are the variations called before the 3 shades come on??

  • you mean the corps part coming down the ramp, or the enterance of the shades?

  • I prefer the music change to be a bit faster tempo wise in the first one.

I think the second one was bit off the music.

those were weird hand flicks in the third on in those arabesques.

    the coda was really amazing.

i think i was just bothered by the music in the shades but overall really good.

    I liked it :)

  • i love Isabelle Guerin.its a pitty i can never see her live again

  • I go to covent garden , in the stalls, and if you can get hold of a big flatscreen telly and good sound system, and well filmed ballet on dvd, it is nearly as good as going :)

  • The dancers are delightful and the camera work is good, but the lens (I think it is the lens) distorts the images and reduces the value of the presentation.

  • You really can't say that. This is because it wasn't filmed from the actuall thing. It was done from a TV. You can tell by the sides at times.~Cynthia Harvey~ABT

  • which variation does Agnes Letestu dance?

  • the first one

  • i hear the music from the 2nd variation almost every other ballet class - good to finally know where it's from. lovely dancing, especially the 1st variation.

  • to me, in the second variation, it was too hard to tell what was styalized and what was a mistake. But i love agnes letesu and and i loooove la bayadere!

  • I mean the 2nd dancer is horrible

  • this is horrible

  • erm... no offence, but the 2nd variation (the name escapes me now) the releves at the end... were but i know its hard its just that these are professionals and i kinda expected more... but other than that, they are GORGEOUS!!

  • stunning... the musics a bit out of sync... but omg anges letestu was GORGEOUS! fantastic corps work too... i love the crowns :)

    thankyou nina!!

  • what company is this?

  • Paris Opera Ballet

  • Simplismente perfeitas!!!!

    Espero mais videos!

  • Agnes Letestu isn't that great in her number. Her arms are too cautious and not entirely in sync with her legs, esp. when lifting them in attitudes towards the end.

  • Podias por a parte das Shadows entrance, por favor? Agradecia muito.

  • parisian dancers are the best. great upload!

  • how much of a fabulous dancer is he at the end! awesome!

  • Amazing technique. The POB dancers have some of the best technique I have ever seen.

  • Ah the Parisian ballerinas. So beautiful

    I LOVE THEM ALL! LOL..

  • Awsome dancer! thank you nina for posting this
