  • I love that they included Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye, an anti-war song.

  • @UrNorsk1987 Are they conscripts?

  • @f1471in3r

Correct. Every male around the age of 18 to 20 gets a draft notice. Then follow a couple of interviews at the local "HQ" and if they deem you fit then you are called into the army for one year. And I remember correctly then follows a 6 week boot camp before you are sent to the station you got accepted into. For example border patrol near the Norwegian-Russian border and some (mainly musicians) get accepted into the royal guard for these kinds of things.

  • @Glisern impressive

  • @f1471in3r yea

  • Thats some crazy shit

  • 5:15 - 5:51 gives me chills <3

  • Wonderful!!!! .... BRASIL

  • @6Mihai6M6

6:30 it's "When Johnny comes Marching Home".

6:59 it's a mixture of the "Main Theme" and "Ecstasy of Gold" from the film "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly".

  • This is real vikings of norway!!!

  • Nagyon nagyok!

  • "If one man can show that much hate... Think how much love we ALL can show together,,," This is a representation of the norwegian people. Our military guard is a part of us.

  • a rose for us now.

  • VIVA SPAIN

  • Really proud to be Norwegian!

  • Precision, thy name is NORWEGIAN MILITARY TATOO. For this exhibition I give thee a million stars. Oh hell, you were so good I'm just going to give you the heavens. BRAVO good people.

  • is this a european event? i can see nordic flags and so but what does american flag has to do there?

  • @Falkunov It's a Norwegian military tattoo, and there where displays from the Norwegian military, and the military of some of Norway's allies. USA was represented there, and that's why their flag is there. USA was the only non European country represented.

  • fantastici! davvero bravissimi!

    complimenti!

  • Incredible performance.

  • so badass, for me this would be one of the most nervewracking things i can think of doing

  • Traditions like this will fade away and die as Norway continues its suicidal multiculturalism campaign.

  • @gwar2006 bet you feel like a F*** smartass right now

  • @hylock I feel like I stated the factual truth, something you probably can't face up to.

  • @gwar2006 Maybe you should be so kind to provide us with proof of these socalled facts.

  • @gwar2006 Why?

  • Amazing displace of skill and discipline.

Can someone tell me what rifle the troops are using? Wish to confirm if they are using the US M-1 Garand.

    Thanks.

  • @MaxCruise73 They use the M1 Garand.

  • @MaxCruise73 yes they are yousing it

  • @UrNorsk1987 It's sad. I've been going through footage of the latest OLA drills as of late, and 2004 is undoubtedly one of the better (although this year's is bloody good too). But after becoming so insanely good, it's pretty sad to just throw them out into civilian life again. I discharged yesterday (not KP3), at the precise time my platoon was at its peak =/ With, say, another year, these guys could be ... wait, strike that - it's not possible to become more legendary than they already are ; )

  • @Nizingur I actually think this years (2011) OLA drill is the best i have ever seen and one of the most difficult.

  • these guys are just conscripts and has been in service for less than a year, yet they OWN many of the professional teams!

  • amazing blend of sound, flawless visuals (except for the guy about losing his drum at 1:45 lol) i think of the powerful low brass sound every time i pick up my instrument

  • jolly good show!

  • very very good but not quite as good as Edinburgh. you just cant beat the sound of the pipes and drums :-)

  • THOSE WEAPONS WERE LOADED THE WHOLE TIME WTF!!!!

  • @westscott246 No. Half-loaded. There's a (blank) round in the weapon the entire time, but not in the chamber. If you listen very closely (better really if you can see them perform in practice, without an audience lol) in the preceding few beats before they fire, you can hear them loading. Just two small separate clicks. But there's so much commotion when there's an audience. They always LOVE when they fire so unexpectedly :P

  • @Nizingur acctually the click u hear is when we take the safety off.. it is blanks, but it is in the chamber the whole time.

  • @resident84 Are you sure? Not to doubt you or anything, perhaps you're in drill, but I always thought that I heard two clicks. But I wouldn't know =)

  • @Nizingur Yes, they load the rifles before they enter.

  • Oh my God!!! after watching this video I wanna be a Soldier!!! Sir yes Sir!!

  • This is bad-ass

  • Go norway

  • This is awesome, its like American drill but these guys can do it so much better :)

  • @paumikan. They are all one year conscripts, and most of them would be aged somewhere between 18 and 25. You would have to do an audition to be able to join the band, so they are not complete rookies.

  • Arguably THE best performance I have ever seen of these guys (I just wish I got to see it live).

  • I understand that the drill team is composed completely of one-year conscripts. And their performance is truly outstanding. However, is the band also conscripts or is it composed of more longer enlistments? The quality of the band gives the impression of semi-professional musicians. Either way they are fantastic.

  • Super! Great music great execution!! Maurizio from Italy

  • teleio video pragmatika entypwsiako

  • AMAZING >>> BRAVOO

  • holy crap, imagine doing one little screw-up! EVERYBODY WOULD NOTICE!

btw, lol at the guy in the front left at 5:52!

    ALT for Norge!

  • @TheSteinbitt Norske Elitestyrker høster i tillegg høy annerkjennelse utenlands.

  • What is the name of the song from minute 6:26 ?

  • what is the name of the second song

  • hope you guys know that they are using real shrapnel bajonets.

  • these men are the best of the Norwegian Garde musical corps and drilling corps.

  • Friend. What`s the name of the first march? Is it Gardekompani? Or does it have another title?. Thanks. ---- The Band is perfect!

  • @ELKINNAVARRO The name is Gibraltar.

  • @suprodupro Thank you so much friend. I have a Brass Band and I would like to play this march with the band. Do you know where I can to get this arranged?

  • I kinda lol'd at the duo at 5:51

  • So we've got the traditional Norwegian music mixed with 'the Good, the Bad and the Ugly' and 'Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye'. Very clever indeed.

  • 4:50 onward ... I've never had so many chills going down my spine!

    Absolutely beautiful!

You must feel so honoured to serve with HMKG

  • i cried, because this is so awesome

  • 38 people missed the "like" button or they are complete idiots...

  • Fan vad bra!

    Heja Norge!

  • Really in sync but only hard thing was the death toss.

    USMC SILENT DRILL FTW!!!!!!

  • @chrisblair1120 The last time i looked at USMC silent drill they where only 8 performing,HMKG is 24 as you see here.

Another thing is that USMC are professionals,HMKG is conscripts in for 1 year,so big difference.

  • Im darn proud to be from norway!!!!

  • Bloody good show,.....excellent entertainment. A lot of hard work went into the display, that much is obvious. Well done Norway.

  • Stykket heter

Moment for Morricone, Jacob de Haan

  • Wow!

  • Hva heter den melodien mellom 4:00 og 6:00?

  • Comment removed

  • @borge947 sangen fra den kjente filmen the good the bad and the ugly.

  • @tomgul89 Flott, thanks! Digg :-)

  • The best drill and music i have ever seen they serve for 1 year..!!!!! and do this... it's amasing!!!! when do you come to Holland Boys 2004 was the last time......

    Jurgen from Holland

  • Impressive! Really well done.

But is it just me or are the uniforms really, really similar to our US Marines?

  • @hannahbananalee The uniforms in the norwegian army/royal guard has changed alot over the years. Throughout the 1800s they went from danish, to german style, to french style, back to german again, over to french and finally in th early 1900 they went for the style that we see here. I'm not sure where the influence came from, but if the marines uniforms are of the same era, that might be a clue.

  • @Superhaze Hey thanks for the history, that's really interesting! And I suspect we're right, there's a hint of our US military in there. :)

  • @Superhaze Wrong. The uniform of HMKG has almost remained unchanged throughout it's history. The uniforms were designed in 1856 with inspiration from Prussia. The bowler hats are taken from the italian Bersaglieri.

  • @Superhaze these uniforms are 19th century italian style.

  • @hannahbananalee

the striped trousers maybe, many bands have that. I dont see much else. Scandanavian militaries have always been influenced by the ebbing and flowing of the various superpowers in Europe over the centuries.

  • The best band i ever seen the where in 2004 in holland please come back soon boys holland loves yea!!!!!!!

  • Yeah Perfect my brothers. \m/

  • Is there any question as to *how* Norway came to have the highest living standard on the face of the earth....all while being generally congenial and honest? :-)

  • @TSXAgility

Comment is a little bit over-the-top, however, they achieved it through oil and taxation....not too shabby!!:;))

  • Komandodrill.. Slikt blir det gnagesår av

  • very impressive

  • What a fantastic performance! If the countries in question, had never spent money friviously....Ther would be no Ballet, Symphonies, Theatre, or fine arts of any sort! It is a complicated and treacherous path to civilization......Many souls have been lost over the milleniums...building cathedrals, towers, bridges, and even the Great Pyramids.....we all would be foolish to think that humanity could be save by the non exsistance of a exhibition....The Joust...The Gladiators! ...........

  • Flipante.......

  • Nice..I like it ...greetings from Slovenia

  • Bravoooo......Extra

  • The comments I've received about paraphernalia shows the kind of people we are dealing with. I do not question the model of society the people have, if that is of their choice. None the less, I think that too much money is greedily spent in show-offs. (To defend the royal family, with all respect, is there the need for such an amount of people?) The performing qualities of the robot soldier is not at stake. Nothing against Norway, the royal family, or their unquestionably beautiful country.

  • How about some food on the table,..'cause I'm hungry ......no sweat !

  • It' simple fantastic...

  • I disagree with your funding (which I regard as nothing more then theft). That aside, the skill level and "show" factor of this preformence is beyond excellent.

  • WHO COULD DISLIKE THIS!? THIS IS AMAZING!

  • @Katie26Kat ya it brings you time with your family, food on the table,.. a loving wife(husband) and kids,.. a loving job-well paid,..and great kings isn;t it to _uck their d icks daily

  • Whoa....I've never seen a performance like that 0__0 awesome. My mind is literally blown

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW !!!!!!!!

  • the gun shot was a beautiful touch

  • @musicnice10 as long as your head is not in front of it?

    "En gang gardist alltid gardist"

    //Korporal Magnusen Drill 2000

  • they mustve practised that hundreds of times to get it this precise. im having trouble thinking of something more mindnumbingly boring than practising that week after week. those guys are probably all vegetables now, brains shriveled like raisins.

  • @immortalass they have trained for 6 months.

  • Excellent! Congratulations, top notch execution, not forgetting the uniforms and the music. Those are late model Krag-Jorgensen rifles, aren't it? Beautiful.

Greetings from Portugal, and wishes of a Happy New Year!

  • @JKuaresma Thank you. No, thats the Ameriacan M1 Garand.

  • @HMKGman1 and I believe the Garand weighs over 9.5 pounds

  • @HMKGman1 nice vid but in Norway for this kinda stuff we use the Krag-Jørgensen, norway have never even used the Ameriacan m1 garand. actually USA used the krag before they got the Springfield 1903.

  • @HANSE658 They're using the M1 Garand in this vid.

  • @HANSE658 Feil, de bruker m1 garand.

  • @HANSE658 Wrong! Norwegian armed forces did use both M1 Garand and M1 Carbine all the years after ww2 up until 1968, when G3 (AG-3) was adopted. My father was an officer in the Norwegian army and used both of these weapons. HMKG drill platoon use the M1 Garand due to its great balance.

  • @HANSE658 As some said earlier, the Norwegian armed forces used the M1 after the war.

That is one of the main reasons the drill platoon uses the M1, except for it's great balance of course!

They are fixed with RAZOR sharp bayonets.

  • @JKuaresma

Those are "U.S. RIFLE CAL. .30 M1". Commonly known as the M1 Garand. Kudos to the Norwegian military for preserving these historical artifacts and using them in such a fine fashion.

  • @rcnixon23

I have to correct you on that, the .30 M1 is a Carbine .30 caliber and the M1 Garand is a rifle with the 30.06 caliber.

  • @spanie

How many M1 rifles do you own? I have several and on the heel of the receiver of each rifle is stamped "U.S. RIFLE CAL. .30 M1". In fact, I took one out before posting and looked at it to make sure I had the wording correct. It is true that the M1 rifle uses the .30-06 (7.62X63) cartridge. The other, weak sister, is known as the M1 Carbine.

  • Just think about...we are drafted... 1 year..... I've been there... done that

  • @JKuaresma The garand is so slacky and makes that noise. A Mauser is quiet and wont make a sound.

  • Knock off the shit, bitches, and enjoy the show. Your buzzkill is beginning to annoy me!

  • Very well done, But personally i prefer the United States Marine Corp Silent Drill Platoon.

  • @Westmustard Thats because you are from U.S.! LOL

  • @sve222 True, lol but US Marines are always better my good sir.

  • @Westmustard You've heard too much propaganda

  • @sve222 propaganda, no, just lovin my country and my Corps

  • I DON'T WORDS!!!!

  • Very well done. Best I've seen to date.

  • Well done Norway! Fabulous display of band and rifle drill. Beats most I have ever seen!

  • Really spectacular. I've been to the Tattoo in Edinburgh, which is quite a show. My grandmother was Norwegian.

  • Drill Band is that beautiful display of order & control amidst the chaos that is true war. Also, they have bowler hats with plumes.

  • The Good The Bad and The Ugly is by a canadian Colonel

  • FANTASTIC TATTOO!!!!!!BUT DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT THE SONGS THEY PLAY???

  • @thedorafytanidis

First song is 'Gibraltar', a Royal Marine tune.

Second is the theme from "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" by ennio morricone.

Last song is 'The Old Rangers March'

  • Heilt fantastisk!!!! sitte med bakover sveis i stolen min

  • is this off of a dvd? is so what is it?

  • That is just.....WOW!!!!!

  • Why I wish to be Norwegian

  • I really loved seeing the whole thing, . . . gives us all hope when we see young people dedicated enough to work this hard. I have to admit though, at one point in the music, . . . I half expected to see Clint Eastwood ride in and start one of his spaghetti western movies.

  • @conraddwight It's even more impressive once you realize they're conscripts and they're replaced each year by a new batch.

  • @abkalmo Yeah, in Sweden, our counterpart - the Royal Swedish Army Band (Arméns Musikkår) costs 7 000 000 crowns/year which is about 700 000 euro. I guess these costs about the same.
