guys its not worth fighting over im sure you and your horses specify in different things thats what makes all horses beautiful!! i know cause i make the most of my horse when sometimes he throw me of at a 40cm metre jump!
i dont evin do larg amounts of dressage but i still think it is the hardest sport. my friend and her horse are going up into the higher levels and when they train she gets so frustrated with the passage. eventing dressag is not above passage maby piaffe but grant prix dressag is by fare the hardest of all equestrian sports.
You need to sit more back and not take your arm on the neck on your horse beacus when it is been higher then the horse will stop to the end :) but you are pretty god to dressage a horse!! :D SORRY BAD ENGLISH :(
Great video! I agree about the difficulty of dressage. It does not take away from the skill required for other disciplines but at the end of the day if you cant ride between the jumps you're in a tough spot ;) I had a coach a long time ago that used to say that jumping is just the fundamentals of dressage but with jumps in the way....in many ways shes right.
Regardless of the discipline all equine sports require an unbelievable amount of skill and training.
OMG I read your description and I SO agree with you! Way too many people start jumping like 3 feet and have NO IDEA what dressage even is! That's how you ruin a horse people!
true, but in order for an eventer to do well in his/ hers dressage test, they must be able to compeet at a much higher leaver of dressage. same goes with show jumping. so u must b able to do piaffe/passage and canter pirouettes
i really doubt eventers school much over piaffe and passage, and certainly not to the same extent that is required out of grand prix dressage horses. lets just end this with an agree to disagree. both disciplines are incredibly hard and take a ton of training.
i agree that dressage is hard... but i think that we have to all agree that eventing is the hardest. u have to first of all DO dressage then showjumping, then of course cross country. your horse has to under go all three chalenges and do then well. the accuracy in dressage, the speed and again accuracy in show jumping and of corse the inteligence, fitness and bravery of cross country.
eventing is my second sport. i actually started eventing before i did dressage. honestly i still say dressage is harder. eventing is more dangerous and tiresome, but in actual difficulty dressage is still is king.
True, but actual dressage is at a much higher level then the equivalent eventing dressage. An example of this would be the fact that second level movements don't appear in an eventing test until preliminary level. Even at the top levels of eventing the horses do not preform one or two time tempi changes, piaffe/passage, or canter pirouettes.
The only reason i wouldnt jump a dressage horse is because they normally only have a dressage saddle (unless theyre an eventer obviously), and jumping properly in a dressage saddle is...err...fun? xD
@luucciii123 all the times that i have jumped have been in my dressage saddle with my legs just as long as i normally keep them, or maybe 1 hole shorter. i havent had any problems
I have done everything from cattle work to timed events, western to jumping and dressage. I have to say dressage is deff the most difficult sport I have learned in the equine world. I have to completely agree with PiaffeQueen, dressage is beneficial for every sport and I know alot of horses that would/would've gone farther in their careers had their owners not been so against it. However there are challenges to every sport :) Beautiful horse by the way, moves wonderfully!
I agree. Just because a horse is good a dressage does not mean its crap a jumping. You never know, they might be better at jumping than dressage. btw, do u have 2 drive 2 ur barn or do u live near it? ur horses r beutiful and ur a great rider.
in my opinion i don't think that dressage is the hardest equine sport... but thats only my opinion... everyone has their own... but im not saying dressage is easy... if you ride each equine sport right... there are different disciplines to the perfection/ completion of each sport... which makes them equally difficult... NOT trying to be mean or start a fight or anything... justt sayyiinnn... oh and btw... nice jumps! i though both you and your horse looked great! (:
Why are people saying dressage is easy?!?! I Can defo say its harder than jumping :L I Mean without your dressage you cant jump! In dressage you need to be able to keep the horse round and soft aswell as using its back end and going at a good rhythm throughout the test aswell as keeping your posistion good and remembering the test ;) Whereas you see many people just throwing themselfs over jumps with no techniques ;) and jumping is dressage with jumps in the way! You rode well ;)
@NSSLover ok maby in jumpers we do that but hunters is nothing like that! you as well have to remeber a specific course when to do flying lead changes but have perfect form over the jumps....
I think jumping may be more intimidating than dressage, simply because you tend to be going faster and it's a bit more dangerous. But I just started taking dressage lessons after 15 years of riding huntseat and competing with my young hunter horse, and it simply requires you to be focusing on different things. Dressage requires you to be much more sensitive to your horse's movements than jumping does, or else you're going to miss that window of going into a frame. Lovely job!
Surely jumping is dressage with jumps in between, so how can it be any harder or easier? You establish a forward, fluid pace, one that you will have to collect and extend from, as well as finding your distance and track to all the jumps. You include elements like flying changes, turns on the haunches, haunches in, not to mention many more while schooling. And jumping, you don't get to practice your "test" as many times as you wish beforehand. Dressage is vital and HARD, as is jumping sports.
I understand exactly what you mean in your description. These people are just making it soo much more complicated. Your right, the BASICS for dressage is a big part of most equestrian sports, whether ppl practice them or not, shows in their performance.
if you want your horse to jump it must have basics on the flat. i wouldnt start jumping my 5yo until i had done basic flatwork & basic lateral movements, she now excels at jumping. teaches the horse to lengthen& shorten& landing correct lead.everything in jumping links back to dressage. esp for getting a bouncy steady rhythm. also with my dressage horses i jump thm so they dont get stiff through the poll& neck and my jumpers regularly do flatwork to keep them swingy through the back.

This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dressage is the easiest b/c it is the foundation of everything which means it is learned first. Jumping and racing are not easy. You must learn perfection in all disciplines. I doubt you were 12 and jumping 3'9. Also your horse needs more skills than that, how about timing? He jumps way too early. ;)
Try riding dressage above first level and tell me its the 'easiest'. Also I am aware that he used to jump early. Did you check the date on the video? Obviously not. And yes, when this was filmed I was 13, before that I was eventing at age 12, competing at 3'3-3'6 jumpers. (I have video and pictures to prove it). I'm 16 now, been riding my whole life.
@PiaffeQueen I put the smiley because I was trying to say that I wasn't trying to be rude and just stating my opinion, and that you could totally blow it off if you wanted.
@ponypartnerincrime I put the smiley because I was trying to say that I wasn't trying to be rude and just stating my opinion, and that you could totally blow it off if you wanted.
@PiaffeQueen I just think that dressage is easier than jumping in my opinion. And if you could do that, and if he is improved, that is great. Sorry, again.
@MiseryMare I'm not trying to be rude, and I know it is not easy. I ws just pointing out that in my opinion it is easier than some other disciplines, just like you think dressage is harder than other disciplines. ;)
@MiseryMare Boy are you rude! Who r u to say that dressage is easy?! And when u first start riding u don't learn dressage first... You just do ground work... u just RIDE.
And why would u doubt that shes wasn't jumping 3'9 at 12... In fact i know someone who's 9 and jumps 3'9.
So don't doubt others people's abilities, because it will come back and bite u in the butt in the end!
And you're saying that her horse needs more skills in jumping? Are you blind!? It says that her horse is dressage, duh.
@XxLive4HorsesxX I don't think dressage is easy, I just think it is easier than jumping in my opinion. And ground work is the main part of dressage. And I know that she said her horse is a dressage horse, but if she's going to jump him/her that high I thought maybe she should build up her skills a little. I wasn't trying to be offensive. Sorry.
Any & every spot involving horses is difficult. I've done Dressage and BOY is it tricky! :o but I loved it! It helped me so much with jumping because it helped get the basics down and it was just 100% easier to manuver my horse around the course. I love it all xD btw EPIC horse riding right there(:
In my personal opinion dressage is the hardest of all equestrian sports cause you are aiming for you and your horse to be perfect, which is ultimately impossible. I respect barrel racers loads, as it is a very exhilarating and impressive sport. One of my best friends is a barrel racer and I ride western myself on my arab. Please, I don't want to get in a western vs english debate, its just stupid, like Pepsi vs Coke.
@PiaffeQueen I'm not trying to get into a English western debate but there is perfection in barrels, etc. Barrels you have to make sure you horse is close to that barrel nicely without knocking it over, and get good timing. I do it in a bitless and when someone says it's not hard that aint good.
I never said barrel racing was easy, oh hell it isn't easy. In fact I know first hand that it is very very hard. I'm curious however... what is the highest level in dressage you have trained to? Perhaps you could put some videos up of you riding dressage?
@PiaffeQueen I should get some videos up here. When the weather is nicer up here. I've done 4th level I could have made it to FEI Prix ST. George in a blink of an eye but Dressage isn't a challenge for me. Barrel racing now there is a challenge.
@PiaffeQueen i like pepsi and coke:) oh oops w meant to say english and western;P you looked very good jumping ! i am riding at a show tomorrow and sunday, and i am lucky i dont have to jump in the 3'3 and one 4 ft jump class!!! i would probly hurt myself! i am only doing a division where you "jump" poles on the ground and 1'9 cross rails:)
I totally agree like 100% about how dressage is the basic for everything!! This summer my horse n i are gonna learn dressage and practice it so we can do better in hunters :)
I have to say I dissagree with your description to some degree. Not all horses have been trained to 3rd level dressage to be a grand prix jumper. Slowing down , speeding up, ect., are not all a horse needs to be able to jump. A horse has to be able to use his legs, find distances, and much more.
@FancyHunterHorse And to add to what I said below, your horse definitely gets some extremly bad distances, which can be hard on a horse without proper training.
@PiaffeQueen Sorry , didn't notice the age of the video. I am not saying the horse is bad , or your position is bad , I am saying I disgree with the description .. That isn't really critique.
Thanks for the video. I no longer jump, but your video helped me to remember that wonderful feeling. Keep on doing it your way, looks like you are having a great time.
Great description; dressage perfection is indeed the impossible goal. I do eventing and showjumping but have all my horses suitably well trained in dressage. Its gosh darn hard and i wouldnt go pro but the more you practice and the more complicated the moves get its an amazing feeling of harmony.
And of course dressage horses can jump hahaha its mainly show horses that cant or simply wont.
I totally agree with you when you say dressage is the hardest. I am an eventer but I have always had trouble with dressage... there is no room for you to screw up!!
I love this! it looks like he is jumping way before the jump but he probably isnt when i took videos of the world equestrian games i noticed that cameras have the distance all wrong it may make it longer or shorter.:D your horse and you is an amazing jumper!!!!!!
I love it when you say no to people, i find it funny! but seriously, They need to get a grip and stop criting people! it does say in the video your aware you used to round your back and you dont anymore, its as if they dont read :s I think your horse is gorg and you done very well! iv been riding for years and when i come to big jumps i dont even relise my round back, i just focus on the horse and if i have a postion that i know is ok and i dont care what anyone thinks <3 yous look great!xxxx
Thank you very much :) Ugh ppl on YouTube... its like really? You think I want hear your 'expert' opinion about what I'm doing wrong when I am already aware of the problem and working on it with my trainer? :s Meh 3 yrs of YouTube and online gaming has given me quite the impatience when dealing with trolls. Just troll em back! ;P
reading your description made me day, although i am a jumper and been doing it basically all my life, i love dressage. And every horse no matter what discipline should be trained in the basics of it at least, because if you and your horse get good at it, it's amazing what you can do.
i think i favorite when im doing dressage is the awe struck look on non horse peoples face watching you
THAT IS CRAZY....................YOUR AMAZING!!!!!!!!! my horse is a jumper we have tried to do dressage with him but he dosnet like bending his neck and your horse is gorgeous!!!!!!!
wow beautiful horse, and can jump like anything. the highest i've ever jumped is a 3 foot crossrail and a 2 4' vertical. its really fun since mine and my friends horse are crazy!! anyway loved the video.
you are very right about the 'dressage is the key' thats why ive had to go back to flat work to get my jumping better :D but is it me or is the saddle a bit loose and flappy on his back ? just wondering :D x
Your horse is gorgeous! She looks almost EXACTLY like my horse! It's really great you do jumping with a dressage horse! I love it! (Originally, my horse was a dressage, we now jump 3'6".) :D
I agree with you dressage IS the foundation for everything thats i do alot of flexion work before we jump or even go out on a trail and my eventing horse can jump and do dressage. it isn't that amazing i do agree when you start riding dressage it is completely funn once you dont have to worry about your legs going every were they start sitting were there supposed to and you start getting into the higher levels it's amazing the connection you have with your horse Love the video!
Hahah you think barrel racing is easy? I have done the barrels for years. I jumped and in a half of a year I was jumping over 4ft. Heck that got boring as hell. Don't tell me it anit hard. I know the barrels are. Just try the barrels full speed. Bet you fall off! I've been doing the barrels for 10 years and heck am I bored? HEck no! Still loving it! Ya got your facts wrong.
omg there is so much wrong with this that I don't even know where to begin. I never stated anywhere that barrel racing was easy. Get your facts straight before you start ranting like a complete bonehead. One of my best friends is a barrel racer, and because of her I aware how hard it is, and respect the sport immensly.
@sassykellie123- eh, barrel racing isnt as excting as what ur getting at. reining is something cool, and definatly jumping! and i doubt u jumped 4ft and got "bored"
Jumping is easy. I've done it. I've even worked with Jockeys. My dad's client has connections if I really wanted to at the age of 16 I could start doing the races but like I said I'm up for a challenge. Jumping is a piece of cake. YOu guys should really think before you speak because if you have experienced anything like I have you know. Idiots.
Nice horse. It looks like you are jumping slightly ahead though, I have been trying to correct this bad habit myself b/c if I get ahead the horse im riding now will refuse. I agree I didnt think dressage was exciting until I started doing it, I just started eventing a couple months ago. Good luck with ur riding
I LOVE DRESSAGE!! I started dressage when i was 6,im now 13 and my first pony was a hunter pony and we "changed" her into a dressage pony. But now my mom is useing her for lessons, She is teaching the kids how to jump on her and i cant tell you how much the dressage help her jumping.. she was only doing 1st level at the time bc i was only 6.. And i cant belive people thing dressage is boring!! im showing 4th level and it is SOO much fun!!!! But my horse is DIFFENTLY not a jumper!!!!:))
ok, so no one throw a fit, but when u put "jumping my dressage horse" people r gonna go crazy about that! just because a horse knows dressage doesnt mean tht it can automatically jump because its so good at dressage! and jumpers need dressage to jump! dressage riders dont nessacarily need jumping.especially at the higth u are jumping ur "dressage horse". You cant jump tht high just with dressage...and ur not an eventer. nice...;)
Just want to say....I FREAKING LOVE YOUR DESCRIPTION!!!! So many people think jumping and dressage are two completely separate things, but if your horse doesn't know how collect, extend, leg yield, shoulder-in, haunches-in, etc, you're going to have a hell of a hard time getting around a decent sized course! Plus dressage is AMAZING for building muscles. There is nothing better imo.
absolutely!! Dressage is the basic of everything - it is the most awesome equine sport and whoever says it's boring is **wierd**!! Dressage is so much fun as well as challenging, making for a perfect sport :D I love jumping too :) -
I agree with that Kerryanneford, chill bro. They dont meen anything by what the posts have said, i too didnt think dressage horse could jump, but i guess if she can then she not a dressage horse, you can either call her an allrounder or an eventer. lol, and yeahhh dressage CAN get boring! So can all sports! Even jumping and barrel racing after a while, so for god's sake, JUST CHILL!!
My last three horses have all won horse trials, so they know dressage and those skills are basic to the other disciplines. My wife has won classes at Devon with her dressage horses, but as athletic as they are, they've never been trained to jump. Pity. Riding a dressage test does have some excitement to it, but so do all competitions, even croquet and darts. Schooling or watching dressage is relatively boring unless it's your sole focus; sorry. Jumpers, XC and fox-hunting are far more fun.
I agree with your description....I had a fantastic jumper called Daisy. I only jumped her up to 3'3 but she was brilliant. But she was also great at dressage. Just because a horse specializes in Dressage it does not mean that it cannot jump as well. It just means that-that is what it it is best at.
the barn i ride at just got a new quarter horse named murphy, but he was away from other horses for around a year and a half, so he likes to talk alot now, hes bonded with a mare and wenever shes not with him he calls to her, and can not for the life of me figure out a way to stop all his screaming!!!!!!! and im workikng on trying to get him to stand stil, so far thats been going okay. so if you have any idea for getting him to shut his trap it would be greatly appresiated!!!!!!!
HAHAHAA this reminded me of a mare named barbie...... its funny to watch her get so confused when your asking for something as simple as a lead change. she was just a fail, i love her and shes adorable, but i dont ride her to much any more, thank goodness
I'm agreeing with your description only to a point, because in saying it's the foundation for everything, you're saying every ride able horse has done dressage, and they haven't. Because it's claiming that basic skills are dressage. There's basic skills, then there's dressage, where you take it up a few notches, by saying even basic training is dressage you're expanding the dressage world to great lengths. If you say that, then every one's a dressage rider and it's just not special any more.
@SpotsRule98 Dressage is French for training. Every horse goes through training does it not? Essentially all horses have the basic foundations of dressage and they are called back to that when ever they are asked to even walk forward.
Dressage is only boring at the lower levels. As you progress, you become so focused with moving sycronized with your horse, both of you using your bodies to elevate your gait and use the horse's power in a sort of contained energy. Dressage, although might not alwayslook like it, has a lot to do with POWER and you begin to expierence that once you start to develop collection. Thats anything but boring! =D
if you just mostly use your horse for dressage hes a great jumper, he looks good over fences and i love the way he rounds his front legs, you have such a cute horse, what breed is he and if hes not a he sorry:S:) but you look really good!!
bahahaha, whoever says dressage horses can't jump are stupids. Have they ever heard the word eventing? Your horse has a really nice take off, and seems scopey. Keep up the good work!
i get wat ur saying and its is amazing how many people say OMG i didnt think dressage horses could jump but you did put with my DRESSAGE HORSE in the title so basically what ur saying is that the horse only does dressage next time try putting with my eventer duuuh
In the first jump i couldn't see the upper poles cos my screen was a bit blurred- and i thought ahhh look at the huge jump for a pole on the ground!!! Muppet then opens eyes and realise's oh no there are poles up there too..... Nice jumping! ;)
I agree with you, dressage is the hardest. I prefer jumping, because i haven't got a chance to ride a good dressage horse, and i give up easily. In jumping, you don't have to be so 'perfect', and the horse don't NEED to be collected to win.
Oh & those people that you so immaturely through under the bus in your description were in fact trying to compliment you, so grow up & don't take it up the ass eh?
..to know that over half of the horses there are failed jumpers, because they didn't like the idea of jumping. However, they clicked with dressage & some of them are now dressage horses competing at Grand Prix level. So to your dismay, there are dressage horses that cannot jump, quite a few actually. In some cases because they are not structurally correct to be successful in jumping, but in most because they don't have the mental will.
You kind of went overkill in your description. There was no need to have a cow & through an attempt in justifying yourself you made yourself look completely arrogant & nieve. To really succeed in any discipline, a horse has to know & to a degree like its job. No high level dressage horse gets to the Grand Prix ring without enjoying it. Same thing goes with jumping. There is a professional dressage barn right next to my hunter-jumper training facility, & someone like you would be surprised..
PiaffeQueen LOVE YOU GIRL!!! Couldn't have said it better myself!!! I grew up a hunter/jumper and did this for 11-12yrs and HATED Dressage I thought it was boring and stupid until my jumper who I might ad never really liked his job was injured. To bring him back after a long time off we had to do Dressage to build up his muscle strength and balance again. Turns out he was a dancing boy not a jumper. I'm now a full on dressage girl! I can't stand it when ppl say it's easy! Anything but easy!
Gorgeous! Jumping looks like so much fun. I ride Western, so...
And even though I don't have dressage experience, I know exactly what you mean. I do natural horsemanship (not Parelli -- Buck Brannaman and Ricky Quinn) and my whole goal is to get my lazy ex-lesson-horse soft. I've gotten 75% of the way there or so. :D I can totally see how softness and all that stuff can benefit you in other equine sports. A dressage horse could even sort cattle - you got speed up, stop and turn in like, seconds
may i like your description? welll i would but there's no like button there :/. I compete in hunters and I can't stand it when we do all flat lessons and then my friend complains x.x I find those flat lessons so helpful and I've often wondered if I should be doing dressage, but I feel like i sit far to forward to do it xD
Only thing is he is jumping way to far back. (try putting a ground pole a few steps away from the jump. He could majorly hurt himself) Otherwise this is awesome! :) Your back doesn't look that bad. Your position is great otherwise!
very nice job riding! i'm not sure if you have been told this, or if you have been trying to fix this but even though the momentum of the jump wants to carry your upper body forward and drag it down after the jump, try tightening your torso and keeping yourself steady after the jump instead of leaning down the neck, that way you will be more balanced as you canter off and the distances and everything else will be more balanced and more smooth, but amazing job XD
when ur horse is a warmblood than it's easier to get ur dressage horse jumping, as when u have a jumping horse and u want to go dressage... dressage is more important to jumping as jumping to dressage.
guys its not worth fighting over im sure you and your horses specify in different things thats what makes all horses beautiful!! i know cause i make the most of my horse when sometimes he throw me of at a 40cm metre jump!

@NSSLover i think that both are equally difficult. but just in different ways, i know that i couldnt just do dressage even though im a jumper.

@NSSLover ok maby in jumpers we do that but hunters is nothing like that! you as well have to remeber a specific course when to do flying lead changes but have perfect form over the jumps....

Jumping is dressage with speed bumps
unicorndream 6 months ago
I think jumping may be more intimidating than dressage, simply because you tend to be going faster and it's a bit more dangerous. But I just started taking dressage lessons after 15 years of riding huntseat and competing with my young hunter horse, and it simply requires you to be focusing on different things. Dressage requires you to be much more sensitive to your horse's movements than jumping does, or else you're going to miss that window of going into a frame. Lovely job!

I read your description, and how did you fix the back-rounding issue? I do it really badly at landing! By the way, you guys looked great~!
happyequine 6 months ago
I totally agree that dressage is the most difficult equestrian discipline. It takes a lot of skill to be a good dressage rider.
Amongst other things, show jumping takes carefulness and quick-thinking.
And also obviously as well as other things, cross country takes a heck of a lot of courage. Top level xc requires a pretty special horse.
All three require a lot of riding ability... let's not have a competition between the disciplines?! They're all fabulous!

Naturalviolinist42 7 months ago
Surely jumping is dressage with jumps in between, so how can it be any harder or easier? You establish a forward, fluid pace, one that you will have to collect and extend from, as well as finding your distance and track to all the jumps. You include elements like flying changes, turns on the haunches, haunches in, not to mention many more while schooling. And jumping, you don't get to practice your "test" as many times as you wish beforehand. Dressage is vital and HARD, as is jumping sports.
Tetetelophone 7 months ago
I understand exactly what you mean in your description. These people are just making it soo much more complicated. Your right, the BASICS for dressage is a big part of most equestrian sports, whether ppl practice them or not, shows in their performance.
luff1800 7 months ago
if you want your horse to jump it must have basics on the flat. i wouldnt start jumping my 5yo until i had done basic flatwork & basic lateral movements, she now excels at jumping. teaches the horse to lengthen& shorten& landing correct lead.everything in jumping links back to dressage. esp for getting a bouncy steady rhythm. also with my dressage horses i jump thm so they dont get stiff through the poll& neck and my jumpers regularly do flatwork to keep them swingy through the back.

ive just started learning some dressage and im exhausted after a ride.... its hard but i also believe that it helps with jumping. :)

Dressage is the easiest b/c it is the foundation of everything which means it is learned first. Jumping and racing are not easy. You must learn perfection in all disciplines. I doubt you were 12 and jumping 3'9. Also your horse needs more skills than that, how about timing? He jumps way too early. ;)
MiseryMare 8 months ago
@MiseryMare

Harder than barrel racing wow. Take it from a person that has done it all just about. It's not anywhere close to how hard it is.
sassykellie123 9 months ago
@sassykellie123
PiaffeQueen 9 months ago 13
@PiaffeQueen I'm not trying to get into a English western debate but there is perfection in barrels, etc. Barrels you have to make sure you horse is close to that barrel nicely without knocking it over, and get good timing. I do it in a bitless and when someone says it's not hard that aint good.
sassykellie123 9 months ago
@sassykellie123
I never said barrel racing was easy, oh hell it isn't easy. In fact I know first hand that it is very very hard. I'm curious however... what is the highest level in dressage you have trained to? Perhaps you could put some videos up of you riding dressage?
PiaffeQueen 9 months ago
@PiaffeQueen I should get some videos up here. When the weather is nicer up here. I've done 4th level I could have made it to FEI Prix ST. George in a blink of an eye but Dressage isn't a challenge for me. Barrel racing now there is a challenge.

ihorseiz 10 months ago
I have to say I dissagree with your description to some degree. Not all horses have been trained to 3rd level dressage to be a grand prix jumper. Slowing down , speeding up, ect., are not all a horse needs to be able to jump. A horse has to be able to use his legs, find distances, and much more.
FancyHunterHorse 10 months ago
@FancyHunterHorse And to add to what I said below, your horse definitely gets some extremly bad distances, which can be hard on a horse without proper training.

And of course dressage horses can jump hahaha its mainly show horses that cant or simply wont.

I have a dressage horse, has ALWAYS been a dressage horse, and I was told he had no potential for jumping.

CharlesHouston3 1 year ago
I agree with your description....I had a fantastic jumper called Daisy. I only jumped her up to 3'3 but she was brilliant. But she was also great at dressage. Just because a horse specializes in Dressage it does not mean that it cannot jump as well. It just means that-that is what it it is best at.

mickeymouseluvaz 1 year ago

HoldYourHorses26 1 year ago 2
..to know that over half of the horses there are failed jumpers, because they didn't like the idea of jumping. However, they clicked with dressage & some of them are now dressage horses competing at Grand Prix level. So to your dismay, there are dressage horses that cannot jump, quite a few actually. In some cases because they are not structurally correct to be successful in jumping, but in most because they don't have the mental will.
HoldYourHorses26 1 year ago 2
You kind of went overkill in your description. There was no need to have a cow & through an attempt in justifying yourself you made yourself look completely arrogant & nieve. To really succeed in any discipline, a horse has to know & to a degree like its job. No high level dressage horse gets to the Grand Prix ring without enjoying it. Same thing goes with jumping. There is a professional dressage barn right next to my hunter-jumper training facility, & someone like you would be surprised..

i compete i both dressage and jumping its called COMBINED TRAINING ppl!! ever hear of it????!
anyway i think it's great that you're giving your horsie some variety, and he's a very keen and beautiful jumper :D

dressage is all the basic's for a showjumper, it shouldn't be all that surprising. Horses need a break from the 'same' schooling just as we all do.

Your position is great otherwise!

very nice job riding! i'm not sure if you have been told this, or if you have been trying to fix this but even though the momentum of the jump wants to carry your upper body forward and drag it down after the jump, try tightening your torso and keeping yourself steady after the jump instead of leaning down the neck, that way you will be more balanced as you canter off and the distances and everything else will be more balanced and more smooth, but amazing job XD

very nice, if he tucked up his knees bit more he'd be a perfect wee jumper ! :D

We have evented in the past. And though I primarily compete dressage with him, we do go to local jumping shows occasionally.

when ur horse is a warmblood than it's easier to get ur dressage horse jumping, as when u have a jumping horse and u want to go dressage... dressage is more important to jumping as jumping to dressage.

as my instructor said once without learning dressage you would be shit at the rest because it is all about balance and perfection and posture.

I agree with the person below me. Most of the grand prix jumpers are trained to atleast 3rd level. I've ridden a 4th level dressage h
