  • Didn't Philips invent CD technology?

  • @MagicTomification You are correct, Philips and Sony invented CD technology. The reason Maganvox claims they did was that they were the consumer division of Philips in the US back when this ad was made. (Philips would later brand things Philips-Magnavox for a few years in the late '90s, then switch to just using the Philips brand on everything sometime around 2001.)

  • @dashwarts thanks for the clarification!

  • Does anyone else think this stuff (especially the Notebook computer) seems surprisingly modern, especially for basically still being 80s technology?

  • Magnavox did not invented CD technology. Phillips did it!

  • @TheDutchGame Too bad they failed miserably with a certain game system...

  • @TheDutchGame I think they are the same company. Philips in Europe, Magnavox in US.

  • @vwrafi

Magnavox became a major consumer and defense electronics company. It manufactured radios, TVs, and record players (gramophones). With the introduction of the Odyssey in 1972, Magnavox began the home video game console market. Philips acquired Magnavox's consumer electronics division in 1974
