depends on what you are doing, poles are to help you with basic positioning, there are many drills to help that where you don't use poles, i would say not to get used to "not" using them but i guess its "application specific" haha..lookin good fellas..i love sunshine

haha poles aren't heavy enough to affect your balance. Don't put your poles on the ground when you're buttering, and the grabs thing could be a bit of an issue i guess. not really though. I can't ski without my poles. to each his own though.
